Great Escape!

Toni Lynn Proper • Apr 11, 2024

3.5

The Ford Escape is a great car. It sits high enough off the ground that it is easy to get in and out of even with a bad back or broken foot. It goes through the 22 inches of snow with ease and did not even use the 4-wheel drive to do it. The gas mi...Read More

About 2013 Ford Escape

3.7

Overall Rating

Ford also offers the Escape with high safety features and ratings. Priced at $22,470 it faces competition from the Buick Encore, Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Subaru Outback.

After years of messing with the same basic platform, the Ford Escape has been revamped completely for 2013. It now has 2.8 inches longer wheelbase which means the interior space will get more spacious. It now comes with a 1.6 Liter turbocharged Inline 4 engine for the SE along with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The interior materials are of excellent quality and the seats are cozy and supportive. Ford also offers the Escape with high safety features and ratings. Priced at $22,470 it faces competition from the Buick Encore, Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Subaru Outback.

We recommend you go with the SE trim. The SE trim ranks above the base trim S and has all the standard features along with a few trip specific features. It is a more value for money package as it features a powerful turbocharged engine along with automatic headlights and Satellite Radio.

Great Escape!

Pros

It handles great through snow which is a plus in Michigan, Very comfortable and roomy ride for all people or cargo

Cons

I would have like E85 instead of the EcoBoost which does nothing that I could tell different, would have like a USB or cigarette lighter in back seat as opposed to the house plug that is in there

The Ford Escape is a great car. It sits high enough off the ground that it is easy to get in and out of even with a bad back or broken foot. It goes through the 22 inches of snow with ease and did not even use the 4-wheel drive to do it. The gas mileage is good for a roomy 4 cylinder. The car has room for all even the 6'7" son in law. Over it is a fantastic car well worth the price I paid for i... Read more

Engine and Performance
8.0/10

The 2013 Ford Escape comes with a 1.6 Liter Inline 4 engine that outputs 173 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission takes the responsibility of the gear shifting job. Keeping the S trim aside all the other trims have the option to choose between a Front Wheel Drive or an All Wheel Drive.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The 2013 Ford Escape with its turbocharged engine delivers a fuel economy of 23 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. It has some basic advantages having a front-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine. The Buick Encore with its 1.4 Liter engine returns an average of 25 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 28 mpg combined.

Due to its lower displacement engine, the Buick Encore becomes the winner here in the fuel economy section. The Subaru Outback is truly an inspiration in the fuel economy segment, where in spite of having a 2.5 Liter engine it manages to deliver stunning economy figures.

Interior
7.2/10

The seats inside the cabin of the Ford Escape are well-shaped and nicely padded. The fit and finish can be termed as excellent. The seats are quite supportive and offer a good level of comfort. The instrument cluster is large and is easily readable.

The Ford Escape offers plenty of room inside the cabin. The rear seats are widely placed having a great amount of headroom and legroom on offer. The Hyundai Santa Fe offers the highest cargo space while the Ford Escape and the Subaru Outback jointly land the second for having marginally lesser cargo space. Some of the interior features include:

  • Bucket Seats
  • Leather Upholstery
  • Keyless Entry

2013 Ford Escape Infotainment System

The infotainment needs of the Ford Escape are met by a 4.2-inch display while a larger 8-inch touchscreen is also on offer. Other features include USB-port, Bluetooth connectivity, and voice controls.

Audio comes out through a 6-speaker stereo system which comes with an auxiliary audio input. Making changes in the infotainment system is easy but it takes time to respond to user inputs. Some of the important infotainment features of the Ford Escape are:

  • SYNC infotainment system(optional)
  • 4.2-inch display
  • USB-port
  • Auxiliary audio input
  • Voice controls
  • Navigation System(optional)

Final Verdict

The Ford Escape is a good car in the compact SUV class. A peppy turbocharged engine combined with smooth handling makes it a driver’s car. However, it lacks many standard features and the infotainment system is not that best when being compared with the rivals. However, the seats are comfortable and the interior feels nice.
