2013 Nissan GT-R Review

Pros

  • Mind-blowing acceleration
  • Superior handling
  • Top-notch interior
  • Competitive price sticker

Cons

  • Ride quality is stiff
  • No manual transmission on offer

Having a supercar DNA, it goes up against the likes of Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Audi TT RS and Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Overview

Priced at $96,820 the new Nissan GTR is one of the most affordable supercars out in the market. Don’t judge it by the price sticker, as it can literally put other expensive and powerful supercars to shame. For 2013, this Nissan coupe has been upgraded and now the engine produces 15 more horsepower and torque than the previous model year. Having a supercar DNA, it goes up against the likes of Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Audi TT RS and Porsche 911 Carrera S.

Pricing and Features
7.0/10

The 2013 Nissan GTR comes in 2 trims mainly. One is the Premium and the second is Black Edition. The base or the Premium trim comes with standard features like 20-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlights, heated and power-adjustable seats, and an 11-speaker Bose Audio System to name a few. The Black Edition is priced at $106,320 which includes no changes in the engine but in exterior and interior fancy. It comes with black wheels, a carbon fiber rear wing, and red Recaro seats.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10

Powering the 2013 Nissan GTR lies a miniature yet powerful 3.8 Liter V6 engine. It helps to propel this powerful machine and churns out 545 horsepower and 463 lb-ft of torque.

It comes with an All-Wheel-Drive setup in which the engine sends the exact amount of energy to all four wheels. A 6-speed automated manual transmission is now offered for smoother operation.

In terms of power output, The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 ranks the highest, having an incredible output of 662 horsepower. The Nissan GTR ranks the second highest. However, being a muscle car the Mustang could not compete with the Nissan GTR in the top speed in spite of having a higher capacity engine.

Fuel Economy
5.0/10

The 2013 Nissan GTR outputs a fuel-efficiency of 16 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined. The powerful engine is not the very best in efficiency, but hey, who expects a good fuel economy from a sports coupe that skyrockets to 60 mph in 3.1 secs. The Porsche 911 Carrera S with its Flat 6 engine delivers an efficiency of 19 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg combined.

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is a heavy drinker. In fact, it has the least efficiency in the segment mostly because of its higher displacement V8 engine. The most-fuel efficient in the segment is the Porsche 911 Carrera S. However, in terms of overall range the Nissan GTR produces a better result because of its higher fuel tank capacity.

Interior
7.9/10

The 2013 Nissan GTR’s cabin flaunts sportiness. Although the comfort level does not get compromised. It has a modern design with the presence of high-quality materials. The front seats of the Nissan GTR are comfortable and supportive.

The rear seats are not that roomy and adult passengers might struggle to help themselves with a comfortable seating position. The rear seats lack space and are best suited for teenagers or children. The cabin of the Nissan GTR also hosts a dual-zone climate control to keep it chilled in hot and sultry weather conditions. Some of the interior features include:

  • Leather steering wheel
  • Power mirrors
  • Keyless ignition

2013 Nissan GTR Infotainment Unit

  • AM/FM
  • Auxiliary audio input
  • DVD Player

Exterior
8.0/10

Safety
9.0/10

All the four wheels of the new Nissan GTR come with disc brakes with anti-lock braking functionality. It also includes traction control and electronic stability control. There are front-seat airbags and curtain side airbags as well for total safety during impact. As for the low sales volume in the USA, the 2013 Nissan GTR has not been evaluated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) as well as the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety(IIHS). Some of the important safety features are:

  • Rear-view camera
  • Anti-lock braking system
  • Tire Pressure Monitor
  • Brake Assist
  • Stability Control
  • Traction Control

Final Verdict

The affordable exotic supercar now has quite earned fame for itself. It is now more powerful with suspension refinements, more on aggressive acceleration, and razor-sharp on handling. The transmission is now smoother in operation which helps the Nissan GTR to achieve greater heights. Interior-wise, the cabin has the modern look while keeping all the buttons logically placed. A perfect race machine for the enthusiasts out there who never settle for anything less.
