The 2013 RAM 1500 Regular Cab is available in five different trims, namely Tradesman, SLT, HFE, Sport, R/T. These again are split into three powertrains - a 3.6L V6, a 5.7L V8, and a 4.7 L V-8. There are RWD and 4WD versions as well as two different bed sizes – a 6’4” bed is standard and can be upgraded to an 8 footbed. The base trim is very bare-bones, coming with features like 17-inch wheels, black bumpers, and grille, automatic headlights, sprayed in bed liner, air-conditioning tilt-only steering wheel, six-speaker sound system, and so on.

The Sport trim with the four-wheel-drive seems to be our pick from the lineup. The RAM 1500 is available with three engine options, all gasoline – a 3.6L V6 and a 5.7L V-8, and a 4.7 L V-8. All these engines are available in Regular Cab form but not across all trim levels. The base 3.6 L V6 produces 305 hp and is matched to an 8-speed automatic transmission and comes as standard on the SLT variant. Driveline configurations offered also depend on the particular engine in question.

The 5.7L V8 is much more powerful and produces 395 hp and 410 pound-feet of torque and is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission or an 8-speed transmission depending on trim level. It comes as standard on the R/T variant. The 4.7 L V-8 engine is standard on all other trims and produces 310 hp and 330 pound-feet of torque.

The RAM 1500 has the most powerful engine on paper as well as in terms of acceleration figures. However, the Chevrolet and Ford have better-towing capabilities and hence have an edge in terms of practicality. We should note that even the base engine of the RAM has a very decent towing capability. The 5.7 L V-8 that one can find in some trims of the RAM is extremely fast for the segment.

Although it comes as a surprise to us, the V-6 engine in the RAM is a very fuel-efficient one. We have the RAM 1500 returning a combined figure of 20 MPG, which translates to 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. This goes slightly down when you opt for the all-wheel-drive versions, by about one MPG. 

But when you add the fact that it has a 26-gallon tank, it returns a decent fuel range between 416 miles to 598 miles on a full tank of gas, which is way more than necessary. However, fuel economy for the V-8s stands at 14/20/16 for city/highway/combined cycles respectively. The figures are the same for both the 4.7 L and the 5.7 L.

The RAM feels like a gas guzzler only when you operate it on the low-range gear setting on all-wheel-drive models. The most fuel-efficient car in the line-up would be the Ford F-150, which returns an EPA estimated 20 MPG combined, 18 MPG in the city, and 25 MPG on the highway, which are only marginally better figures when you compare it to the RAM. However, it has a much smaller fuel tank of 23 gallons and thus falls back in terms of range.

The interiors of the RAM 1500 have been the class benchmark since the previous redesign. The seats are very comfy and supportive for long journeys and the controls are very ergonomic and intuitive. The storage spaces offered are also quite generous in the car, with even lower trim levels offering very good material quality. There are lots of convenience features, and the material quality used is very plush, overall making the cabin the class benchmark.

The regular cab version of the RAM 1500 makes sure that there is a huge amount of cargo that can be carried while three people can enjoy the great experience that the interior provides. Even the base trim has features that appeal well to buyers and is made of reasonably good materials. When comparing the cargo capacity, Ford offers the most at 59.9 cubic feet. 2013 RAM 1500 Regular Cab Infotainment unit

The infotainment unit in the RAM 1500 undergoes an upgrade for this year. A 5-inch system comes as standard, while an 8.4-inch touchscreen system is available as an option. Both of these systems do their job very effectively with touch buttons that are large and easy to see, while also providing tactile feedback to physical knobs and buttons. The exterior design would be one of the only defects of the 2013 RAM 1500. It definitely looks a bit clumsy next to its competitors and needs an upgrade soon. It does not look quite as aggressive or quite as elegant as its competitors that have now moved onto much newer and better designs. However, this shouldn’t be a hindrance for someone who intends to use this as a workhorse but only for someone who uses it as a family truck.

The RAM 1500 and Ford F-150 are a bit heavier when compared to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which only weighs 5,099 pounds. The Chevrolet also provides the most ground clearance, while the Ford is significantly longer and taller. In terms of wheelbase, the Ford is again considerably longer than both the RAM and Chevrolet at 156.5 inches. Some standout exterior features include:
