Overall Rating
When looking for a compact sedan in the market, the Dodge Dart stands out for its eye-candy styling and affordability. But there is more to it than just the style.
When looking for a compact sedan in the market, the Dodge Dart stands out for its eye-candy styling and affordability. But there is more to it than just the style. It also offers a spacious cabin, a decent amount of fitment, and a solid infotainment system that is arguably one of the best in the market today. The performance too is pretty solid with a wide range of engine options, each catering to different sets of buyers.
The GT trim, although costs considerably more than the lower trims, does offer a lot more features and is also powered by the powerful 2.4-liter engine. There is no option for drivetrain or transmission being offered by Dodge.

The 2014 Dart is available in five trims, which include three different engines as well. The base trim gets a basic 160 hp engine, while the Aero trim gets a turbocharged engine generating the same amount of power. The other trims are powered by a powerful 184 hp engine, and although there is a decent level of features in the lower trims, one has to go for the top two trims if looking forward to more of the luxury amenities.

The GT trim, although costs considerably more than the lower trims, does offer a lot more features and is also powered by the powerful 2.4-liter engine. There is no option for drivetrain or transmission being offered by Dodge.
The 2014 Dart is powered by either of the three engines on offer, starting from the base 2.0-liter engine that produces 160 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque.
There is also a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 160 hp and 184 lb-ft, while the largest of them all is the 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine that generates 184 hp and 171 lb-ft. Only the larger engine gets a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the other two are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The power is sent only to the front wheels as standard with no option for any AWD system.

Being the most affordable sedan in this lineup, the Dart also manages to be the quickest off the line in our acceleration tests. The Focus is very closely matched to the Dart, both in terms of performance and pricing, while the Honda Civic is the most expensive car here and yet is the slowest one. The Chevy Cruze has the lowest engine output and yet is quicker than the Civic.
The base engine of the Dart may not be the most frugal of the lot at 29 mpg of combined city and highway driving, but the turbocharged engine hikes the number to 32 mpg, while the powerful 2.4-liter mill is rated for 27 mpg by the EPA. The sizable 14.2-gallon fuel tank does make things a lot more convenient, offering a decent driving range of over 400 miles on a single tank of gas.

What the Honda Civic loses out on performance, it makes up for it in the efficiency section as it is the most frugal one in her. And despite employing a smaller gas tank, Civic offers a driving range similar to that of the Dodge. The Cruze has an identical fuel efficiency as that of the Dart, while the Focus is marginally better than both of them.
The Dart's cabin is one of the nicer ones in the market today, and things get even better as we go up the trim levels. The splash of colors in the form of contrasting stitching and the additional cushioning wherever necessary adds to the appeal of this cabin.
Although there is optimum space for both the front and rear-seat passengers, the high-mounted front seats can make the taller driver a little uncomfortable.Â

Both the American brand cars from Dodge and the Chevy are pretty neck-to-neck in terms of cabin space for all the occupants, but the Cruze excels in terms of trunk volume it has to offer, which is the best in this comparison. Honda Civic is more spacious at the back but compromises on the boot space, while the Ford Focus sedan is the most cramped inside the cabin. Major interior features include-
The Uconnect infotainment system is something that we highly recommend as it is a product that is highly rated by all the users and reviewers alike.
The simple layout, large buttons, quick responses, and smooth graphics, all work wonderfully, and the voice command functionality makes things even easier to use while on the move. Major infotainment features include-
The Dart has a very stylish and mean appearance when looking at it from the front. The smoked black headlamp finish on higher trims with the sculpted hood and sleek alloy wheels and the large yet not too massive grille give a handsome appeal to the car. The chrome finish grille and blacked outside windows trim add a premium feel to the vehicle.

Add to that the low slung nature of the car, the Dart does look menacing in the rearview mirror of the car ahead. The Honda Civic and the Chevrolet Cruze have the highest ground clearance to offer. The Focus sedan is the most compact car of the lot and has marginally higher ride height than the Dart. Major exterior highlights of the sedan include-
The available safety features and driver aids, most of which are standard across the trims, help the Dart perform exceptionally in the crash tests. The 2014 Dodge Dart is rated by the NHTSA with a perfect 5-star overall rating, while it has also been announced as the ‘Top Safety Pick’ by the IIHS in the crash tests conducted by them. The list of safety features is plenty long, and a highlight of them is listed below.
The 2014 Dodge Dart offers a well-balanced package for compact sedan buyers as it packs in a solid performance, decent efficiency, good features list, and perfect safety test ratings. Other than that, the styling is pretty sleek too, and the only place it lacks is in the refinement section, which has bothered it for a while now. Thus, if you think you can overlook this aspect of the Dart, then it surely should be on your watchlist.
