The Ford Focus sedan is a car that has a very high sales volume and justifiably so. For the 2014 model year, the car is essentially unchanged and packs a lot of that makes it a compelling buy.

The Ford Focus sedan is a car that has a very high sales volume and justifiably so. It is a feature-packed, economical, and desirable sedan that has captivated the minds of many and continues that way. For the 2014 model year, the car is essentially unchanged and packs a lot of that makes it a compelling buy.

Prices between the base trim and the highest trim level do not vary by much in a car that is offered at the price point as the Ford Focus. For this reason, we recommend the SE trim level, which is offered at a very good price of $18,615 and comes with the choicest of features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, power rear windows, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, six-speaker sound system, voice controls as well as steering mounted audio controls.

Good beginner car

Pros

It has Bluetooth, It’s sports features

Cons

It’s outdated, It doesn’t have all the features I would prefer

This car would be a good car for a teenagers first car, but not for a 28 year old adult who’s been driving for 13 years. The manufacturing isn’t the best, and the features it has aren’t all that impressive at all. It seems almost like a death trap. I wouldn’t recommend it.

2014 Ford Focus Review

Pros

  • Excellent ride and good handling
  • Powerful engine
  • Loaded with convenience features

Cons

  • Legroom is a bit cramped

The Ford Focus sedan is a car that has a very high sales volume and justifiably so. For the 2014 model year, the car is essentially unchanged and packs a lot of that makes it a compelling buy.

Overview

The Ford Focus sedan is a car that has a very high sales volume and justifiably so. It is a feature-packed, economical, and desirable sedan that has captivated the minds of many and continues that way. For the 2014 model year, the car is essentially unchanged and packs a lot of that makes it a compelling buy.

Pricing and Features
9.0/10

The 2014 Ford Focus is available in three different trims, namely S, SE, and Titanium. Prices for the Focus start at $16,775 for the S variant that is available only in sedan style. Prices for the high-end Titanium trim level start at $23,575 and thus represent good value for money. Features as standard right from the base trim include 15-inch steel wheels, keyless entry, air-conditioning, power locks and mirrors, height-adjustable driver seat, four-speaker sound system with CD player, and an auxiliary audio jack.

We Recommend

Prices between the base trim and the highest trim level do not vary by much in a car that is offered at the price point as the Ford Focus. For this reason, we recommend the SE trim level, which is offered at a very good price of $18,615 and comes with the choicest of features such as 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, power rear windows, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, six-speaker sound system, voice controls as well as steering mounted audio controls.

Engine and Performance
8.4/10

There is only one engine option available in the Ford Focus, and that is a 2L four-cylinder engine that produces 160 hp and 146 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is available as an option in the base trim.

However, this automatic comes as standard on the Titanium trim, which also offers a manual as a no-cost option. The car is pretty brisk with 0 to 60 mph times being around 8.3 seconds, which is very much up to the standards of the segment.

All the rivals of the Ford Focus provide respectable performance. Ford Focus has the most powerful engine and also scores well in terms of real-world acceleration. The Cruze betters the Focus in terms of acceleration as well as top speed, but these differences are so marginal that they will never be noticeable in the real world. The Civic is also very competitive both on paper and on the road.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

This is a category that has very tight competition when it comes to fuel efficiency figures. We have the Ford returning a combined figure of 28 MPG, which translates to 25 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway. Even though the fuel tank size is a bit modest at 12.4 gallons, it returns a decent fuel range between 310 miles to 422 miles on a full tank of gas, which is way more than necessary.

The Civic leads the fuel efficiency figures as it is rated at 32 MPG combined, 28 MPG in the city, and 40 MPG on the highway, which is the class benchmark. In comparison, the Chevrolet Cruze is also very evenly matched in terms of fuel efficiency against the Honda Civic. What’s most impressive is that these cars have good performance as well. The highest fuel tank capacity is the Chevrolet’s with its 13.7-gallon tank.

Interior
7.7/10

The 2014 Ford Focus has a very attractive exterior design, but the best part of the car is the meticulously designed interior.

The design is one of the best you can find in the class, and the interiors are very quiet as well. Material quality is also among the best and makes it feel more upmarket than it really is. Seats are also built really well, and the trunk capacity of 13.2 ft.³ is decent.

In comparison, the Ford Focus has the least spacious rear row seats, especially when it comes to legroom. Its rivals feel a class apart due to just how much extra space there is for rear-seat passengers. But everywhere else, the Ford does hold its ground rather well. In terms of cargo space, Ford is generous, but its competitors offered much more. The Civic has the highest cargo space at 15.1 ft.³ of storage. Some of its interior features include:

  • Steering wheel with audio control
  • Rear heat vents
  • Tilt and telescoping steering wheel
  • Power front and rear windows with driver one - touch down
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Cargo area protector

Infotainment unit

The infotainment unit is one aspect that Ford has consistently made better over the years. And by now, they have almost perfected it with the MyFord system.

The large touchscreen that comes with voice command and other features makes the experience inside a Focus much better than what you find in its class. Few standout infotainment features available are-

  • Two USB ports
  • A 12V power outlet
  • HD radio
  • An optional five-year subscription to SiriusXM Travel and Travel Link
  • Voice recognition
  • Applink connectivity.

Exterior
9.0/10

The car has a very handsome design. It is modern and yet sticks to the good proportions of a conventional sedan at the same time.

One of the only awkward design elements is the large air dam at the front, but the car makes up for this with its excellent stance as well as good-looking alloy wheels. Ford’s design language has matured a lot and probably is at the peak right now.

Honda Civic is the lightest vehicle in this class as it weighs around 2,742 pounds. The Focus is the heaviest at 2,935 pounds but carries this extra weight due to strengthened metal that was used extensively in its body. It is also shorter and hence suffers a bit when it comes to cargo capacity as well as legroom. Some standout exterior features include:

  • Automatic quad-beam halogen headlamps
  • Mirror with integrated blind spot
  • Rear window defroster
  • 18-inch Alloys
  • Front upper-grille with gloss black
  • Heated mirrors
  • LED lighting with daytime running lamps
  • Rear spoiler.
