About 2014 Honda Civic

4.2

Overall Rating

The 2014 Honda Civic sedan has got newer CVT and infotainment screen with even more powerful 143 hp engine for a base price of $18,390.

The 2014 Honda Civic welcomes a few upgrades for second year in a row such as a new CVT that replaces the older 5-speed automatic and the newly refined touchscreen infotainment system as standard. Having the LX, HF, EX, and EXL on offer with its new 143 hp 1.8 L I-4 engine that can return over 40 MPG, it comes at a price starting at just $18,390.

The Honda Civic with its impressive  interior, solid safety and reliability ratings goes on war against the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3, and Hyundai Elantra. Also, the sportier Civic coupe version has been brought up with enhanced styling and suspension for a base price of $19,010 alongside the fuel efficient hybrid sibling.

The EX-L trim of the 2014 Honda Civic as it has the best comfort and cabin entertainment. The power surge and safety gears are also well packed in this package without compromising on fuel economy. So, one should go for it.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

"The Honda Civic has long been one of the better-driving cars in its class." - Edmunds

The 2014 Honda Civic sedan stands in 4 trims only that has the LX configuration as its entry level for $18,390 investment. It owns assets like the 5-inch display, cloth seats, and 15-inch steel wheels. The HF trim with 15-inch lightweight alloy wheels and Low-rolling-resistance tires is the most economical sibling among all costing $19,940.

The EX trim comes at $21,090 for which it has been given values such as the 7-inch central touchscreen display, sunroof, and 16-inch alloy wheels. And the range-topping EX-L enjoys the feel of leather upholstery , heated front seats, 8-way power adjustability for driver's seats, and the pairs of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Engine and Performance
7.8/10

"Civic's solid road manners and excellent fuel economy are just what the doctor ordered." - Kelley Blue Book

The 2014 Honda Civic is powered by a 1.8L I-4 engine that kicks in 143 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque. It is hitched with a 5-speed manual tranmission for LX trim that can be upgraded to CVT too after some additional investment. While the rest get CVT as standard for them.

Do not expect an enthusiastic driving experience from the Honda Civic's FWD layout but the performance is enough for urban driving and occasional highway cruising. The engine remains calm and composed at all situations but gets stressed quickly when pushed hard.

Though one can't really comment on the Civic's 0-60 MPH and quarter-mile timing, it is one fine sedan that is capable to be generous in curbing that power dynamics. The pairs of 10.3-inch front vented disc and 7.9-inch rear drum brakes assist the ABS to maintain traction at the time of heavy braking.

Among the rivals, the Mazda 3 is the most powerful one as it has 12 hp and 21 lb-ft better curve than the Civic despite being $600 expensive. Meanwhile, the Civic has a dominance of almost 11 hp over the Corolla itself but lags behind the Elantra by 2 hp.

In terms of range coverage, the Civic is at par with the Mazda 3 due to their comparable economy and fuel tank. However, it has got 12 miles extra combined range over the Elantra with its 0.4-gallon bigger tank. This narration goes otherwise against the range of Corolla by 13 miles.

"The Civic still offers up excellent interior space." - Kelley Blue Book

The interior of the 2014 Honda Civic is nothing out of the ordinary but features a robust build quality and tons of practicality. You will get to see a lot of hard-plastics inside the cabin along with cloth-trimmed seats for all except EX-L as it relishes leatherette touches.

The front seats of the sedan are decently comfortable and offer a good amount of support. They also get power heating function for the EX-L configuration exclusively. While the cargo capacity of 12.5 cu-ft comes standard for all without any adjustments.

Exterior
8.5/10

The exterior of the 2014 Civic sedan looks quite appealing and premium for the price it is offered at. The front end looks smart with clear-lens headlamps having automatic on/off functionality and a sleek designed front grille. The front bumpers get a tasteful chrome lining too.

The side-profile is also neat with a sculpted design flowing along the doors and the fenders are sleeker than average. While those 15-inch, 16-inch, and 17-inch wheels complement the design philosophy depending on the trim level.

2014 Honda Civic vs. 2014 Toyota Corolla

The 2014 Honda Civic has been introduced against the 2014 Toyota Corolla with better power surge but lower cabin spaciousness in the 2nd row. Apart from these, they are pretty much the same in their technology and safety integrity. So, both are equally desirable.

2014 Honda Civic vs 2014 Mazda 3

The 2014 Honda Civic feels a little less atheletic as compared to the Mazda 3 due to its lower power dynamics. But they can't be distinguished in their range practicality, safety stance, and interior technology. On the whole, one may incline for either of the two.

2014 Honda Civic vs 2014 Hyundai Elantra

The 2014 Honda Civic is more range frugal but falls short in cargo capacity against the Hyundai Elantra, because of which their practicality quotient is pretty much the same. However, the cabin arrangement in much more balanced for the Civic that gives it the preference edge.
