Overview

Lamborghini is a brand that instantly reminds us of Italian fast cars with those howling V10s and screaming V12s splitting flames through their exhaust pipes. The Gallardo is presently Lamborghini’s best-selling model with over 14,000 production units to date.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10

The fabulous Lamborghini Gallardo is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2liter odd-firing V10 motor. It is tuned to generate a maximum of 543 horsepower and 398lb-ft of torque. The motor is tuned towards delivering the maximum possible performance with a rich air-fuel mixture hence, has a crazy 8,000rpm redline, making it scream when you’re really pushing it hard. The power delivery is spot-on and there is absolutely no delay in the throttle response and the car shoots forward like an arrow the moment you floor the gas pedal. All the power from the engine is delivered to the rear axles via a 6-speed automated manual transmission that goes through the gears at lightning-quick speeds. In manual mode, you’ll have full control over the gear shifts via the paddle shifters and the transmission will hold on to each gear till the redline. The powertrain can propel the car to 60mph in a blisteringly fast 3.5 seconds flat.

The Aston Martin DB9 is one gem of a car and is quite a legendary one too owing to its association with the James Bond franchise. The DB9 is a more relaxed car with a lower horsepower count but a higher torque output than the Gallardo, making it a perfect high-performance luxury cruiser. The Bentley Continental GT has a V8 and is the least powerful one among the three on the list but has the maximum torque output on the list, making it a more luxurious and relaxed cruiser than the DB9 as well.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

Fuel economy is the least point of concern for anyone buying a Lamborghini Gallardo. That being said, the coupe offers a city mileage of 13mpg and a highway mileage of 20mpg. The combined mileage is rated at 15mpg.

The Aston Martin has a bigger powertrain hence, it returns about the same mileage as the Gallardo despite having a lower power output. The Bentley Continental GT is the most fuel efficient one owing to its small powertrain as compared to the other two rivals on the list and the least power output figure as well.

Interior
9.0/10

The cabin of the Lamborghini Gallardo is quite pleasing with adequate soft-touch materials all around. Leather treatment is also found alongside the soft-touch treatment and gives the cabin the much deserved premium feel.

The switchgear, gauges, and the driver interface has been directly sourced from Audi and gives a familiar look to the layout. The seats are comfortable and extremely supportive as one might expect along with the tasteful leather treatment that makes the experience complete. The seats do offer an excellent driving position with adequate outward visibility but lacks a good rear visibility.

The Aston Martin DB9 has a more plush and laid-back cabin with good headroom and legroom for the driver and the passenger. The Bentley Continental GT offers the best cabin among the three with bespoke interior trims and a heavy dose of wooden and vinyl trims on most of the surfaces. The seats are supremely comfortable and the car offers a superb ride quality too.

Infotainment

In its basic form, the infotainment system of the Lamborghini Gallardo is quite basic with a multimedia interface that is identical to Audi’s MMI interface.

The basic features include a four-speaker sound system with a CD player. The optional entertainment options include a navigation system, and upgraded audio with iPod integration.

Infotainment features of the Gallardo are:

  • CD Player
  • 4-speaker audio system
  • Navigation system
  • iPod integration

Exterior
8.0/10

The Lamborghini Gallardo looks fast even when it is stationary. It looks like a proper exotic sports car with a heavily low-slung stance and a highly aerodynamically-efficient overall design. The front end doesn’t look much aggressive but the blacked-out air dams on either side of the front bumper look quite appealing and the projector headlamps with a sleek profile look spectacular.

There are some sharp edges at the front as well as at the rear while the side profile looks clean with a rear fender-mounted air intake scoop for the engine at the back. The ground clearance is quite low at 5.0 inches which is quite normal for a high-performance sports car.

The Aston Martin DB9 oozes class and opulence with its design and has an aggressive looking front end with an even lower ground clearance as compared to the Gallardo. The Bentley Continental GT looks like a proper luxury coupe with oodles of chrome treatment on the outside and a bulky overall design.

Safety
8.0/10

Exotic cars like Lamborghini Gallardo do sell in quite low numbers and their exotic price tags restricts them from undergoing any crash tests. It does not have any crash ratings from the NHTSA or the IIHS. The safety features are also kept to a minimum for shaving weight and includes anti lock brakes, stability control and side airbags with head protection, and an optional rear view camera.

Safety features:

  • Anti-lock brakes
  • Stability control
  • Side airbags
  • Rearview camera(optional)

Final Verdict

The Lamborghini Gallardo is a fantastic speed machine with an exotic status and a hefty price tag. It offers phenomenal performance and a decent cabin to offer a medium level of comfort while going fast. Overall, the car is focused to offer speed and phenomenal handling along with a sonorous and screaming V10 motor underneath.
