The Nissan Maxima is available only in two trim for the 2014 model year and offers dual-zone climate control, heated mirrors, powered driver seats, and many more features as standard. The higher SV trim isn’t that expensive either and adds a lot of functionality and creature comfort for a little additional premium.

Since there isn’t a huge difference between the two trims in terms of the price, the higher SV trim seems like a smarter choice as it adds premium features like leather upholstery, superior driver seat adjusts, a parking camera, and much more. The high-end SV trim brings better value for money proposition on the lineup. 

The 2014 Maxima is offered with a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine under its hood that is mated to a CVT transmission.

It produces 290 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque, which performs decently well and achieves 60 mph in just 6.4 seconds from a standstill. The quarter-mile is covered in 14.8 seconds while topping out at 131 mph out on the highway.

The Toyota Avalon has the lowest engine output and yet is only marginally slower than the Maxima in terms of 0-60 mph sprints, whereas the Hyundai Azera is the slowest despite producing the highest power figures. The Honda Accord is the fastest and yet the most affordable car in this comparison.

Large cars aren’t really frugal, and the Nissan Maxima’s V6 engine is no different in this aspect. It is rated for 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway by the EPA, while the overall combined fuel efficiency is rated at 22 mpg. The large 20-gallon gas tank does wonders in improving the driving range, which could have been poor if not for the larger tank.

The Honda Accord is the most efficient car in this lineup, while the Maxima is the least efficient one, but the large gas tank translates to a driving range similar to that of the Accord. The Avalon is marginally less efficient than the Accord, whereas the Azera has slightly better fuel economy ratings than the Maxima.

The interior of the Maxima has a pretty upmarket build quality but not many would like the kind of old design language. The material quality is top-notch along with the fit and finish.

There is enough space both at the front and at the rear, and the Maxima is probably the only one amongst the non-premium carmakers, to feature bucket seats as an option even for rear passengers. Although it limits the seating capacity to just four, it adds to the novelty factor of the car. The luggage capacity is also on par at 14.2 cu-ft and can fit luggage for the entire family for a weekend trip or can even accommodate a golf kit.

The 2014 Hyundai Azera offers acres of space at both the front and the rear and no other sedan comes even close to its spaciousness. The Maxima has great front row space but the rear seat is a bit on the tighter side. The Accord and the Avalon have similar levels of space. The Hyundai Azera also has the largest trunk capacity, which is marginally better than the Toyota Avalon. The Maxima again has the lowest space in this regard too. Major interior features include-

How is the 2014 Nissan Maxima Sedan’s infotainment system?

The Nissan’s infotainment system on offer in the Maxima is pretty intuitive to use and anybody could use it easily without facing any issues. The iPod interface is one of the best in the business as it is lightning quick and exactly mirror’s Apple’s UI.
