Overall Rating
An affordable luxury car is what we make of the Volkswagen CC. Sure, unlike the other luxury brands, no paparazzi are running around this car.
An affordable luxury car is what we make of the Volkswagen CC. Sure, unlike the other luxury brands, no paparazzi are running around this car. But it does get people’s attention, and people wait and watch the car. The car likes to roll around silently, both on the outside as well as the inside. It likes to give the passengers and the driver all the comfort they require. You get performance, good fuel economy, and a ton of features. These realistic and necessary features of the CC are what allow the car to take a stand for itself.
The CC got 2 opinions from us for the folks buying this car. If you want a car that’s affordable and still is a luxury sedan, you can opt for the Base trim. It offers a lot of practical features and will come in handy. On the other hand, if you don’t want to buy a high-end luxury, then you can go for the Executive trim as it lives up to the “luxury sedan tag and offers a lot of features. If you want a bigger engine and want to go all-out with luxury, then you can pick up the VR6 4Motion trim.

The car is offered in 4 trims: Sport, R-Line, Executive, and VR6 4Motion Executive. You have two engine options, although one engine is limited to a single trim. The price starts from $31,795 for the base variant and goes all the way up to $42,895 for the top-of-the-line trim. Features such as fog lights, automatic wipers, LED DRLs and taillights, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated (also powered) front seats are standard across all trims.

Volkswagen offers a 2.0 L I-4 turbocharged engine that makes 200 hp @5100 rpm and 207 lb.-ft @1700 rpm. The VR6 trim gets a 3.6 L V6, which makes 280 hp@6200 rpm and 265 lb.-ft @2750 rpm.
The CC comes with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The automatic is the signature DSG gearbox which is preferred by most because of its refinement. We recommend going for the automatic transmission option. The CC is a front-wheel-drive car, while the VR6 trim is all-wheel drive.

The CC is behind in terms of performance, however, we need to keep in mind that the engine is a 2L I-4 and not the V6 engine. The other two cars have much more powerful V6 engines and produce a lot of horsepower and torque and hence are ahead in the race. The CC does 0-60 mph in just above 8 seconds, and the quarter-mile comes up in 16 seconds. The other two are quicker than at least 1.5 seconds in both areas. The Acura TL has the highest top speed at 149 mph.
The economy on the CC is not bad at all and is on the brighter side of the spectrum. As we said, the 2L engine-powered car is a great option for families as you get the luxury as well as the economy. It has mileage figures of 21 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway for the manual, and it increases by one for the automatic at 22 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. It has a tank size of 18.5 gallons, which is sufficient for a car of this stature.

All three cars have similar numbers on the city economy, irrespective of their tank capacity. The Acura surprised us, even though it was the fastest car, it has pretty respectable efficiency numbers as well, at 20 in the city and 29 for the highway. Nissan gets the largest tank and the least economy. The CC offers the most range overall, at 388 miles in the city and nearly 600 miles on the highway.
The interior of the Volkswagen is beautiful and very mesmerizing. The interior build and work quality are top-notch, and this excellent work exists across all the trims. There are a lot of soft touches onboard which go well with the leather upholstery you find on the inside.
The interior is well laid-out and neat. This interior challenges the interiors of some rival luxury brands as well. The ride inside is super quiet and smooth. There is a lot of storage space as well. You have A/C vents in the rear as well.

The seats are well contoured and very welcoming to any person who wants to sit. The comfort is very precise and offers tremendous thigh and back support. There is ample legroom in the rear seat, but the headroom is limited by the sloping roofline. This might be a problem for the taller passengers. Also, this has made getting in and out of the car a little troublesome. The trunk storage of the CC did not please us at 13 cubic feet, and it will not be easy getting in all the family's luggage. Few noteworthy interior features are:
The infotainment system offers a lot of features, but it’s not the easiest to use at all. Also, it is slow and not very smart. What you do get as standard on the CC includes the Volkswagen’s Car-Net system, Bluetooth connectivity, touchscreen, navigation system, CD player satellite radio, iPod interface, and an 8-speaker audio system.
The upper Executive trim gets a larger screen. The top-of-the-line trim gets a premium audio system. Some important infotainment features include:
The exterior of the CC is characterized by its long and sleek lines along the sides of the car. The car overall has a very calm and quiet design to it. The car has frameless doors (a point of love-hate), LED DRLs upfront, and taillights at the rear.
The swoopy roofline gives the car a longer appearance than what it actually has. We like the chrome inserts all around the side as they add a sense of luxury to the car. The headlamps and taillights are big and go well with the proportions of the car. The twin exhaust gives it a sporty nature.

The CC is a light car, and this helped in better fuel economy as well. The CC is the smallest car in the comparison and comes with a tight wheelbase as well. The Acura is the heaviest car and the longest and still came out on top in the performance run. The Maxima is a little differently shaped when you compare it with the other two. The Maxima stands higher than the others from the ground, at 5.6 inches. Some exterior features on the CC are:
All Volkswagen CC get airbags, traction control, stability control, and the Car-Net system. This system helps with emergency assistance, geo-fencing, stolen vehicle location tracking, and crash notifications. The higher two trims get a rear-view camera and front+rear parking sensors. It gets a rating of “Good” by the IIHS for its safety standards. Some important safety features are:
The Volkswagen CC is a gem of a car, and it can be what you want it to be. It will always be big on interior luxury and offers great performance with precise control. There are high-end family sedans, but when you can get the luxury of a luxury brand sedan at an affordable price bracket, it makes the car a worthy companion. We surely recommend the car, and you’ll love the decision of buying this car once you drive it.
