Overall Rating
The Audi Q7 is one of the most stunning, seven-seater SUVs out on the road. The engine lineup consists of two supercharged V6 engines and a turbo-diesel V6 engine. If you wish for better performance, choose the supercharged V6 but if fuel economy is your priority, skip this engine for the turbo-diesel V6 engine.
The Audi Q7 has been around since 2006 but its desirable image and impressive seven-seater practicality means that it is still very popular despite getting a bit old. The 2015 Q7 is probably the last model year as Audi has confirmed that the SUV is going to enter into the second generation for the next model year. Still, with its old mustache and wrinkled body, the Q7 takes on rivals like the Lexus GX 460, the Acura MDX, and the Infiniti QX60.

Features-wise, we recommend you to take a look at the Premium Plus trim. This trim includes all the standard features of the Premium trim and adds a heated steering wheel, a power sunroof, rearview camera, and navigation at the price of $48,300. However, if good performance is what you desire then go for the S Line Prestige trim.

However, if good performance is what you desire then go for the S Line Prestige trim.
Three different engines are offered on the Audi Q7. A 3.0-liter supercharged V6 as found in the Premium and Premium Plus models that makes 280 ponies of power and 295 pound-feet of torque. The same engine is employed in the S Line Prestige model but the power is boosted to 333 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. A turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V6 is also available in the Q7 TDI model. Power figures sum up to 260 horsepower while the torque peaks at 406 pound-feet of torque.
Both these engines come mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Power is distributed to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The additional torque in the TDI model lights up the SUV, particularly during traffic times. Smooth and agile acceleration in the Q7 is the most rewarding experience. Handling is good in the Q7, however, it can be hard to navigate very timidly in narrow areas and corners.

The overpowered Lexus GX460 misses second place by just a few milliseconds to the Audi Q7 thanks to the latter's 8-speed automatic transmission. The low curb weight of the Acura MDX helps it to achieve the top spot on the table although it is less powerful than the Q7. The V6 in the Infiniti QX60 doesn’t boost enough power to beat its rivals.
If you are looking for an SUV with good fuel ratings then the Audi Q7 is clearly not the one for you. Audi’s powerful 3.0-liter supercharged V6 consumes more fuel in order to deliver that nail-biting performance. The fuel estimated as rated by the EPA is 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. But the best part is that the boosted V6 in the S Line Prestige model also boasts the same fuel estimates.

The less-powered engine of the Infiniti QX60 helps it to get the best-combined mileage in this competition while the Acura MDX with 21 mpg combined is just behind. The Lexus GX460 has a decent fuel economy but it is not as efficient as the above-mentioned rivals. Sitting quietly in the last place is the Audi Q7 with the worst ratings in this segment.
Audi’s interiors are just unusual, and the Q7 isn't any different. The highlights like chrome and metal accents near the door and wood trim on the dashboard dazzle the cabin of the Q7. The seats offer good levels of comfort and there is enough room in the front and second row. But the third row does not make it useful for adults.
The front seats are strong and offer good bolstering to keep the driver and front passenger in place. The panoramic sunroof doesn’t affect the headroom for adults in the second row. Loading cargo shouldn't be an issue as a total of 72.5 cubic feet of cargo space is available behind the first row.

The Infiniti QX60 is the only SUV here to offer competitive head, shoulder, and legroom in all three rows. The third row in the other three rivals is ideally suitable for kids only. Although high-quality materials flourish in the cabin of the Q7, the interior design looks old and really needs a refresh to stay in line with its rivals. Some of the other interior features include:
Audi has always been a step ahead with its technology. The MMI infotainment system on the Audi Q7 is considered one of the most convenient and easy-to-use systems in its class. However, it takes some time for the testers to understand its working curve. Visibility is good thanks to crisp and clean graphics.
Physical climate controls buttons are also available below the screen and frankly speaking, these buttons are really helpful. Some critics have complained that these buttons cannot be reached easily from the driver’s seat. A rear-seat entertainment system is also available as an optional package. The sound department is handled by 11 speakers. Some of the other features include:
The original Audi Q7 stood out for its size but the new one is quite different on that front. That’s because it’s 14.5 inches shorter in length. The overall height is still the same. As for the design, it looks aged. The single-frame grille from the earlier Q7 has found its way here too. In fact, angular cues dominate the entire styling.
Skinning on the bonnet and elsewhere on the body is also tight and gives the car an athletic look. There’s nothing extraordinary about the rear but you will find crisp clean lines here as well. The Q7 doesn’t have the imposing look or even the flash value of its predecessor. It looks more like a high riding station wagon than a big burly SUV.

Our beloved Audi Q7 is the bulkiest ride in this competition but still, it doesn’t have any adverse effects on the SUV. The Lexus GX 460 is the shortest SUV with a wheelbase of 109.8 inches but it is the tallest SUV in this segment. The Infiniti QX60’s ground clearance of 6.5 inches can cause some problems during off-roading. Some of the cool exterior features of the Q7 include:
The new Audi Q7 has undergone only one test by NHTSA and has scored four out of five stars in the rollover test. But, IIHS gave ‘Good’ ratings in all the categories and declared the Q7 as one of the safest SUVs in its class. Like its rivals, six airbags are standard in the Q7. The Q7 doesn’t offer much safety technology like a BMW. Some of the available features are:
The 2015 Audi Q7 is a smart option when compared to its large crossovers. This is because it offers a tremendous amount of excitation both inside and outside. Its 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine is no ordinary engine. Although it is not a serious off-roader, it offers great ride comfort. There’s no doubt that the Audi Q7 is one of the luxurious-friendly cars in America.
