Overall Rating
The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe is a car with all the design cues of its muscle car roots, has big block V-8s to add oomph, and begins at prices that are affordable to most buyers.
The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe is a car with all the design cues of its muscle car roots, has big block V-8s to add oomph, and begins at prices that are affordable to most buyers. Well, relatively. Sure it is not the most practical or family-friendly car out there, but we have to recognize that it is too much asking for everything from purpose-built sports cars.
Since the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe is a standalone trim level, it does not come with the choice of any sub-trims. Being a very well-equipped variant, it does not offer a lot of optional extras either. Recaro sport seats are an option, so is the sunroof. One can also opt for a six-speed automatic transmission, but that would come at the cost of driver engagement. We feel that the sports seats add a lot of practicality by making the passengers comfortable when cornering at high speeds.

The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe does well in one department, and that is engine performance. It is powered by a V-8 that has a capacity of 6.2L and is paired to a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed automatic is available as an option.
It produces 580 hp and 556 pound-feet of torque. That kind of performance is honestly unbeatable at the price the car is offered. The engine is supercharged and remains very characterful throughout its rev range.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 produce enough torque to make this earth spin backward. The Dodge is the most violent in terms of performance but that would only provide for bragging rights since the Mustang and Camaro handle much better. The Ford Mustang has a high revving engine that is quite different from the character of through and through muscle cars like the Camaro and the Dodge Challenger.
To begin with, one does not expect stellar efficiency from engines that start with ‘6.2 L big-block V-8,’ and that is exactly the case with the Camaro. The manufacturer has gone all out in the extraction of performance from the engine that fuel efficiency has essentially taken a backseat. It returns 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, and 16 mpg combined, which is far from fuel-efficient. It compensates with its 19 fuel tank, which lets it have a decent range for the class.

Even though the Camaro has bad MPG figures, it is safe to say that it is in good company. Its rival, the Mustang returns only slightly better fuel economy figures by almost one or two MPG at max on highways. The most efficient car of the class would still be the Camaro as it returns 16 MPG combined and has the largest fuel tank at 19 gallons, hence returning the highest range.
Even though the emphasis was on performance during the development of this car, the manufacturer has paid a lot of attention to its interiors. The design pays homage to older Camaro models with its squared-off bezels while still incorporating modern technology and convenience.
The material quality can be slightly better, and the visibility is hampered due to the pillars and small windows. The seats offer good comfort as well as support during cornering, but the optional Recaros are much better. The trunk space on offer is very skimpy at 9.1 ft.³.

One look at the data and it gets extremely clear just how big the Dodge Challenger is on the inside when compared to its competition. It is bigger in almost every dimension by 2 inches or so, and this translates to a huge difference in real life. Seating capacities are the exact same for all cars. Although the cars offer space for five or four adults, it is very hard to occupy the rear seats in all of them. The Camaro suffers in terms of cargo space as well, which is pretty much half of the Dodge. The main interior features of the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe include:
The infotainment system in the Camaro is slightly outdated, unlike its interiors and mechanicals. It is slow to respond and not very intuitive to use, but the graphics are crisp. The Chevrolet MyLink is a very basic system in the Camaro and has space for improvement. The standout infotainment features of the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe include:
The Camaro has a lot of modern design elements and significant aerodynamic improvements on the exteriors. It has beefy proportions and yet manages to look very well tied up.
The road presence is also pretty amazing, and the car can look fast even while standing still. Although not very heavy by muscle car standards, its 3,883 lbs curb weight puts it in the territory of heavy cars.

The Camaro and Mustang share similar proportions as well as dimensions. The Dodge, on the other hand, is much bigger. You cannot find a dimension where the Dodge Challenger is smaller than its rivals. It is also the heaviest car of the lot. The Camaro is both smaller and lighter, which translates to better performance on the track. When comparing the ground clearance, Mustang stands tallest to the ground at 5.4 inches. Few standout exterior highlights include-
The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Coupe is a car that has changed the reputation of muscle cars being unsafe. It has scored an overall five-star rating in the NHTSA crash tests, but the IIHS is yet to conduct crash tests. The coupe has standard features like antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, airbags, and OnStar telematics. Few salient safety features available with the coupe are-
TheChevrolet Camaro ZL1 is an excellent car that can be considered as a neo-muscle sports car. It is not only a big block engine but much more than that. Chevrolet has gone a long way in tuning the suspension and chassis that the car is now an excellent handling automobile. It also has decently feature-rich interiors and looks amazing on the outside as well as inside. Some of the only defects are in terms of visibility, fuel efficiency, and practicality. Even then, it is a car we fully recommend just for the fun of it.
