2015 Chevrolet Tahoe Review

Pros

  • Strong Engine
  • Quiet Ride
  • Impressive Interior Quality

Cons

  • Cramped Third Row Seat
  • No telescopic steering for base trim
  • Bumpy Ride

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe comes in three trims and comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that delivers weaker performance than its rivals but provides quite good fuel economy.

Overview

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe comes in three trims and comes with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that delivers weaker performance than its rivals but provides quite good fuel economy. The interior is luxurious and the fit & finish is of great quality. The SUV provides enough space in the first and second rows but has a cramped third-row unusable for adults. The Chevrolet Tahoe has been fully redesigned for 2015 and surely is a strong contender in the affordable large SUV segment.

Pricing and Features
6.0/10

The SUV is available in three trims for the year. The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe starts at $46,300 for the base LS trim with a 5.3L V8 engine outputting 355 hp and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. The 4WD option can be added at $3,000 extra. The LS trim comes with all the space and luxury, while the next in line LT trim starts at $51,505. The high-end LTZ trim costs $61,085 and is the most feature-laden option in the lineup.

Engine and Performance
8.1/10

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe comes equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that puts out a maximum power of 355 hp and a maximum torque of 383 lb-ft. The engine's power is transferred to the rear wheels through 8-speed automatic transmission. Although, an all-wheel-drive setup is available for an added price. The Tahoe reaches 60mph in 6.7 seconds flat and crosses the quarter-mile mark in 15.1 seconds, which are pretty good numbers considering the size and segment.

The Toyota comes next in terms of acceleration with even more power. The Toyota has a 5.7 L V8 under its hood outputting 381 hp and 401 lb-ft. It takes 6.6 seconds to reach 60mph and 15.2 seconds to cross the quarter-mile. The Chevrolet Tahoe is the slowest to reach 60 mph while the Toyota crosses the quarter-mile last.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

Considering its size and segment, we know that high expectations are not to be kept from the Tahoe. However, the Chevrolet Tahoe delivers a comparatively higher fuel-efficiency of 16 mpg in the city, 23 on the highway, and 18 mpg of combined fuel economy. The Tahoe gets a 26-gallon fuel capacity, outputting a range of 416 miles in the city, 598 on the highway, and a combined range of 468 miles. The efficiency figures are on the higher side compared to other vehicles in the segment.

Interior
8.4/10

The 2015 Tahoe provides good amounts of space on the inside. There are three rows providing seating for 7 people cocooned in luxury. The interior of the cabin has super luxurious features, including Tri-zone automatic climate control. The seats are covered in leather and so is the steering wheel. The front and second-row seats are spacious and comfortable with enough support, whereas the third row is super cramped and provides an awkward seating position for adults. So, as usual, it can be just left for children.

The Chevrolet is the most spacious option in the front row, followed by the competition. When it comes to second-row space, all of the competition performs head to head. But in the case of the third row, the Expedition has the most legroom, followed by the Toyota and the Chevy has the least and the difference is significant. When it comes to cargo capacity, the Toyota has the most of 18.9 cu-ft, followed by the Ford with 18.6 cu-ft and the Chevy with 15.3 cu-ft of the cargo area. Major interior features include-

  • Heated steering wheel

  • Heated and cooled front bucket seats with 12-way power adjusters
  • Heated second-row bucket seats with power release
  • Power-folding 60/40 split-bench third-row seat
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel

How intuitive is the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe’s infotainment unit?

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe features an 8-inch Chevrolet MyLink infotainment unit. It is equipped with Bluetooth, CD Player, Aux, and USB Connectivity along with satellite radio. As for audio, there is a 9-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system fitted inside the Tahoe as standard, while the high-end trim features a Bose Centerpoint surround sound 10-speaker unit. The audio system sounds great. Few key features include-

  • Chevrolet MyLink Radio with 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen display
  • Bluetooth audio streaming
  • AM/FM/HD Radio with CD player
  • 5 USB ports,
  • SD card reader
  • Auxiliary input jack
  • SiriusXM
  • Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound premium 10-speaker system
  • Bose premium 9-speaker system with subwoofer in the center console

Exterior
8.0/10

The fully redesigned Tahoe still looks super huge, but a lot more sleek, elegant, and luxurious now. The design is still flat and bland with very few design cues. The front end features a huge grille, which is chrome covered in the LTZ trim along with HID headlamps with LED fog lamps. The side profile features 18” wheels in the lower trims and bigger 20” ones in the higher LTZ trim. The rear end is flat and boring, and there’s nothing to specify about the design of the back. The Tahoe gets a ground clearance of 7.9 inches.

Safety
8.3/10

The Chevrolet Tahoe comes equipped with many standard safety features for keeping its huge body and a large number of passengers safe, including ABS, stability and traction control, frontal and side-impact airbags for driver and front passenger, driver inboard seat-mounted side-impact front, center airbag, and head-curtain side-impact airbags. The Tahoe stops from 60 mph at a distance of 126 ft, which is impressive. NHTSA has given the Chevrolet Tahoe very impressive safety scores of five stars. IIHS has not rated the 2015 Tahoe. Few salient safety features include-

  • Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Front and Rear Park Assist
  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Safety Alert Seat
  • 4-wheel disc brakes with Duralife brake rotors
  • Electronic cruise control with Set and Resume Speed

Final Verdict

The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe is a well-priced great choice to opt for in the affordable big-size SUV market. It offers a spacious interior covered in luxury along with a powertrain with enough power under the hood. The trims of Chevrolet Tahoe are also offered at very competitive price points. This time with the redesign, it justifies the price tag by offering a visibly more elegant choice and more luxurious features on the interior. Even though it is not the most powerful, it does provide an overall sufficient features set, thus turning out to be a decent pick for the segment.
