About 2015 Nissan Armada

3.3

Overall Rating

Although even arch competitors like Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition miss its utilitarian nature by a long shot, the 5.6L V8 still feels as dated as its outlook 11 years ago. Meanwhile, if comfort and ergonomics are the keys to your heart, I am sure the Armada clearly wins it.

It has been ages since Nissan made its debut in the United States, and there is one vehicle that matured along the entire timeline. Yes, the Nissan Armada was one of the first few vehicles the Japanese manufacturer launched in America. Initially, its unique styling made it clear of being derived from a truck, but as the years passed, the SUV was expected to take a more sophisticated shape.

Apparently, as the most prominent virtues of this SUV are concerned with the basic design of the vehicle, it is advisable to opt for the SL trim. Apart from the capaciousness of its cabin and the powertrain, the trim adds a plethora of usable entities that boost your interest in the Nissan Armada. On the plus side, opting for the 4WD version will help you handle the power produced by the V8 better.

2015 Nissan Armada Review

Pros

  • Higher Seating position
  • Quick acceleration
  • Spacious interior
  • Ability to tow 9,000 pounds

Cons

  • Feeble Handling
  • Cheap Interior Materials
  • Poor Economy

Although even arch competitors like Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition miss its utilitarian nature by a long shot, the 5.6L V8 still feels as dated as its outlook 11 years ago. Meanwhile, if comfort and ergonomics are the keys to your heart, I am sure the Armada clearly wins it.

Overview

It has been ages since Nissan made its debut in the United States, and there is one vehicle that matured along the entire timeline. Yes, the Nissan Armada was one of the first few vehicles the Japanese manufacturer launched in America. Initially, its unique styling made it clear of being derived from a truck, but as the years passed, the SUV was expected to take a more sophisticated shape.

Pricing and Features
6.0/10

For 2015, Nissan has three different trims of the Armada - SV, SL, and Platinum. While there is also a Platinum Reserve trim, but it is just the Platinum trim with some extra capabilities. Starting from the base, the SV comes with a standard dual-zone air conditioning, heated mirrors, a 4-way power-adjustable passenger seat, and cruise control. Apart from that, both the front seats can be heated for added comfort. As you move up, the SL model adds some contemporary features like keyless entry and push-button start, a rearview camera, Bose audio, and a powered liftgate.

Besides, it also features segment-first utilities like a power-folding 3rd row and an auto-leveling rear air suspension. Finally, the top trim adds leisure adornments like a power moonroof, navigation, middle row screen with DVD, and heated 2nd row. All Armadas come standard with stability control and curtain airbags that cover all three rows.

As far as the fiscal attributes are concerned, each model is separated by an average margin of $5,000 as the list of features is very distinct with every higher trim you choose. To be accurate, the SV trim starts at $39,405, while the higher trim goes all the way up to $50,490. All the trims except the Platinum Reserve are available with an FWD configuration.

We Recommend

Apparently, as the most prominent virtues of this SUV are concerned with the basic design of the vehicle, it is advisable to opt for the SL trim. Apart from the capaciousness of its cabin and the powertrain, the trim adds a plethora of usable entities that boost your interest in the Nissan Armada. On the plus side, opting for the 4WD version will help you handle the power produced by the V8 better.

Engine and Performance
7.0/10

In the world which is bidding their goodbyes to bigger engines, the Nissan Armada fancies itself a substantial powertrain. It is a V8 with a 5.6L capacity that produces a heft of 317 HP and 385 lb-ft. These figures may seem insignificant given the size that accompanies them, but there are a couple of reasons. Primarily, it is naturally aspirated, which implies no extra boost in the intake manifold. Secondly, the engine retains its characteristics from the time of its inception into the American market, i.e. precisely in 2004. This is one of the reasons the SUV feels dated, apart from its very straightforward design.

Nevertheless, the powertrain does its job sharing most of its dynamic components with the Nissan Titan pickup. Thus, it occupies a five-speed automatic, that launches smoothly and confidently from a standstill while leaving plenty of power for passing, too. It moves from zero to 60 in just under seven seconds–good for its class–though some of the GM SUVs are quicker. With four-wheel drive and the towing package, the Armada can pull up to 9,000 pounds

When the engine revs, you'd almost confuse it for a NASCAR V-8–it's that muscular sounding. The engine has been in the Armada for ten years now, and while its competitors have improved over their V-8s and even V-6s in that time, this mill has rested on its laurels. Nevertheless, the engine has less horsepower than rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Toyota Sequoia, although it conveys a great acceleration. It's not exactly on a par with what it could be, however, in light of the fact that the transmission once in a while chases for gears, keeping the engine down a bit.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

The engine may let you down at the fuel pump, however. Nissan estimates that the Armada gets just 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Those ratings lag behind many other large SUVs, even those with V8 engines. Through the span of multi-year, the normal Armada driver will spare about $150 on gas contrasted with the Sequoia. Be that as it may, they'll spend about $350 more on gas than the normal Tahoe driver.

For instance, the Chevy Tahoe gets 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. However, the Armada's mileage is, in reality, superior to anything the Toyota Sequoia. The Sequoia gets only 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.

Interior
7.2/10

The Armada has a tranquil and appealing inside that utilizes for the most part quality materials. That quality doesn't reach out all through the inside, however. The infotainment framework is out-dated contrasted with equal frameworks, and the Armada offers less load space than a few contenders. The front seats don't have as much room as you'd expect in a large SUV either, in spite of the fact that the second-push seats are sweeping.

Like most huge SUVs, the Armada seats eight, however discretionary second-push container seats diminish seating ability to seven. Leaning back second-row seats are standard, and they tip forward for simpler access to the third row. You'll instantly see the roomy second-row seats, which as per Nissan has best-in-class head-and legroom. That implies awesome things for grown-up travelers, yet it ought to likewise make things simpler on guardians endeavoring to introduce a youngster's auto situation. The second-row situations additionally feature LATCH connectors, giving you a chance to anchor perfect auto seats without utilizing the safety belt.

Despite being a big SUV on the outside, Nissan Armada SV disappoints when it comes to interior spaciousness. This SUV is as small on the inside as big it appears to be from outside. Although it has decent space for an 8-seater SUV and is appreciably comfortable, yet it lacks space when compared with its rivals. Some of the interior features in the 2015 Nissan Armada are:

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • A power moon-roof
  • Heated six-way power front seats (with two-way power driver lumbar)
  • A leather-wrapped tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel
  • A reclining second-row bench split seat
  • A 60/40-split third-row seat

2015 Nissan Armada Infotainment System

Each version of the Armada comes with a different set of features. The base version, the SV, offers dual-zone climate control, an AM/FM/CD player with USB port; power front seats; Bluetooth keyless entry; a flip/fold third-row seat; and rear parking sensors. Meanwhile, the Armada SL picks up some more comprehensive feature content, including Bose audio, a rearview camera; leather seating; and a power-folding third-row seat.

The Platinum edition, at the top of the range, gets a full bundle of luxury add-ons including a power tailgate; heated first- and second-row seating; a heated steering wheel; a sunroof; a navigation system with real-time traffic; and a DVD entertainment system for the rear two rows of passengers. The Nissan Armada features include:

  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • An 8-inch touchscreen interface
  • A navigation system
  • A 13-speaker Bose audio system
  • CD player
  • Satellite radio
  • An auxiliary audio jack
  • A USB media player interface
  • Voice recognition

Exterior
7.0/10

The 2015 Nissan Armada leaves little to the imagination, thanks to its ultra-masculine, ultra-big design that's totally lacking in subtleties. While it's one of the more dated designs among full-size trucks it still feels well-laid out and straightforward. The new Armada rides a wheelbase that is 2.1 inches shorter than the outgoing model, yet it is 1.2 inches longer, 0.6 inches wider, and it sits 2.2 inches lower. It is the longest SUV among its rivals and is sufficiently wide and tall as well.

But still, it falls 1.2 inches short of height when compared with an SUV like Toyota Sequoia SR5, which is 77.0 inches high. The only noteworthy changes for the 2015 Nissan Armada are new wheels for the SL and Platinum models, and a couple of new exterior colors. Otherwise, this big SUV is unchanged, for better or for worse. If you like a unique look, then you’ll dig the Armada’s big chrome grille, boxy fenders, and unique curved roofline.

You may not see quite as mean Armadas parading down the road as you might the Expedition or Tahoe, but it's been around for long enough to be recognizable to just about everyone on the highway. With its exaggerated, yet decidedly macho fender flares and wheel wells, this SUV hasn't sold especially well. Maybe it's the notchy roofline that swells over the passenger cabin, or maybe it's the funky door handles. Some of the exterior features in the 2015 Nissan Armada are:

  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • A full-size spare Automatic LED headlights (low-beam only)
  • Roof rails
  • Side steps
  • Rear privacy glass
  • Rearview camera
  • Front/rear parking sensors

Safety
7.0/10

The new Nissan Armada has received most of its updates in the safety section only; the Armada has overall amplified its value for money factor. The car now comes with many safety features like Adaptive cruise control and Forward collision mitigation systems as standard.

The 2015 model year has scored an overall 4-star in crash tests conducted by NHTSA. The safety features offered in the 2015 Nissan Armada are very much decent, the car now gets Nissan Safety Shield as standard from the 2014 model. Some other safety features include:

  • Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt and occupant-classification sensors
  • Driver and front-passenger seat-mounted side-impact supplemental airbags
  • Roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags for outboard occupant head protection for all three rows
  • Active Brake Limited Slip (ABLS)
  • LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children)
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Child-safety rear door locks

Final Verdict

The 2017 Nissan Armada is a truly decent substantial SUV that gets eclipsed by its cohorts. In spite of the fact that the Armada gives a powerful engine, high towing limit, and an upscale inside, it additionally has undersized first-and third-push seats, beneath normal cargo limit, and an out of date infotainment framework.

It's certainly worth thinking about the Nissan SUV while you're auto shopping, yet other extensive SUVs convey more to the table. The Toyota Sequoia has better cargo space and a simple to-utilize infotainment framework, and the Chevy Tahoe has possibly the most delightful lodge in the class and offers tech features the Armada doesn't. So while the Armada is a decent SUV, it presumably shouldn't be at the highest priority on your rundown.
