Overall Rating
The 2016 Audi Q3 is available with a single engine option that provides decent power output but lacks in terms of fuel economy when compared to its rivals. The interior is spacious and provides great comfort and ergonomically placed controls.
The Audi Q3 is a subcompact luxury SUV that comes with a traverse-mounted engine at the front and offers an attractive design with comfort and compliant ride quality. It is the smallest SUV from the Audi family and entered production back in 2011. The 2016 Q3 continues with all the qualities of the SUV lineup and further enhances the overall experience.
We would recommend you to opt for the Premium Plus trim with the Quattro drivetrain. You can further enhance your experience with the Sport package that further adds paddle shifters, Audi drive select, and front sport seats.

The Audi Q3 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged straight-four motor. The motor comes with a complex engineering and runs on premium gasoline. That being said, the motor generates a maximum of 200 horsepower and 207lb-ft of maximum torque. You’d barely hear the motor running at idle speeds and under hard acceleration the motor doesn’t get too vocal but delivers all the performance efficiently working together with the fantastic 6-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain is capable enough to propel the SUV to 60mph from a standstill within 8.0 seconds, not a bad time for a crossover SUV.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 has a similar powertrain as the Q3 SUV but pushes out a slightly better horsepower and a way better torque output. The BMW X1 comes with a standard AWD system and has the best power figure among the three on the list. It also has a superior 8-speed automatic transmission that manages the power efficiently, enhancing the overall performance.
Opting for a luxury crossover SUV generally puts the fuel efficiency at the backseat, but that is not the case with the Audi Q3. It delivers an excellent fuel economy among its segment. Within city limits the SUV returns a maximum of 20mpg and out on the highways, the number climbs to an impressive 29mpg. The combined mpg is rated at 25mpg.

Despite having a similar powertrain as the Q3, the Merc GLA 250 has way better fuel economy rating than the latter and stands as the most fuel efficient offering among the three on the list. The BMW X1 has slightly lesser EPA ratings than the GLA 250 but is still way ahead of the Q3 in terms of overall fuel efficiency.
The Q3 is Audi’s most affordable and smallest crossover but the brand has been careful not to skimp on the interior quality. In fact, the SUV comes with one of the finest cabins in the segment. The cabin is laid out with plenty of premium and high-quality materials.
The dashboard design is made out in a cockpit style theme and the center stack is more driver focused with the controls within an easy reach from the driver’s seat. The front seats are extremely comfortable but the rear seats do come with a bit firmer cushioning and the legroom is also on the lower side when pitted against its rivals. Behind the rear seats, there is a cargo capacity of 16.7cu-ft, which is adequate for carrying luggage of four people for a short weekend trip.

The Mercedes-benz GLA 250 is more spacious than the Q3 and has a better rear seat experience and comfort than the Q3 as well. The BMW X1 has the best headroom on offer for both the front and rear passengers along with ample legroom too.
Infotainment systems on modern Audi vehicles are quite spectacular owing to the brand’s MMI interface and its unique implementation. The Q3 comes with a pop-up 7-inch touchscreen display along with Audi’s MMI interface and bluetooth connectivity. The system also includes a 10-speaker audio system with satellite radio, a CD player, and Audi’s own digital music interface. The display also doubles up as a rearview camera display while reversing.
Some highlighted features of the Q3’s infotainment system are:
The design of the Audi Q3 SUV is nothing fancy or out of the box, but it works quite well when it comes to appealing to the buyers. The SUV imitates its bigger sibling, the Q5 SUV, but the brand’s intelligent design elements toned down everything within a compact yet expressive design language.
For the 2016 model year, the SUV gets some mild cosmetic upgrades and it looks better than before. The front end of the SUV dips towards the ground quite steeply and the narrow headlamp units are nicely balanced by the big air intakes. The front grille is completely blacked out and the SUV’s roofline mimics that of a coupe’s design. The wheel arches are nicely sculpted with more than adequate space for wheel travel, giving the SUV a mild rugged appeal too.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 comes with a much easier-going design than the Q3 and it looks more like a big and lifted hatchback rather than a crossover SUV. The BMW X1 comes with the best design among the three and has the best ground clearance too, and given its standard AWD layout, it can venture off the roads without any second thoughts.
Being a German crossover SUV, safety is one of the strong points of the Q3. The SUV bagged a Top Safety Pick award and a top “Good” rating from the IIHS however, the NHTSA didn’t crash test the SUV. The standard safety features of the SUV include stability and traction control, front side airbags, side curtain airbags, front and rear parking sensors and a rearview camera. The Technology package further adds a blind-spot monitoring system.
Highlighted safety features of the Q3 SUV are:
The 2016 Audi Q3 offers an overall exquisite exterior with a best-in-class interior and comfort. The ride quality is excellent over almost any terrain and especially in crowded urban areas the driving experience is hassle free courtesy its compact dimensions. The Q3 offers a plethora of standard features and can be further enhanced via the optional upgrade packages. Overall, it is a near-to-perfect luxury crossover with more than adequate versatility.
