The Audi S7 is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 unit that produces a glorious rumble alongside 450 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. This vigorous setup is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission that shifts as quickly as a much expensive sports car.

The signature Quattro all-wheel drive is standard on the S7 which grips the tarmac so well that this long luxury coupe manages to hit 60 mph in just 4.8 seconds from standstill while the quarter mile drag strip is covered in a brisk 13.2 seconds time frame.

The BMW 6-series might cost a few thousand dollars more than the Audi S7, but the additional torque that it offers takes the fun and engagement to a whole new level. It also makes the Bimmer around half a second quicker in the acceleration tests than the Audi. The Mercedes, on the other hand, is more affordable and yet quicker than the Audi S7.

Fuel Economy
6.5/10

The S7 implements a clever technology known as cylinder deactivation which disbands few cylinders complacent situations to save fuel. This in turn helps it return 17 mpg in city driving conditions and 27 mpg while cruising on the highway. On a combined scale, the city and highway driving result is a decent 21 mpg, which translates to a 400-mile driving range with the 19.8 gallon gas tank.

The Mercedes CLS 550 has almost identical fuel economy figures as that of the Audi S7, while the BMW has a marginally higher fuel consumption. The Mercedes also employs a much larger fuel tank and thus offers the best driving range in comparison. Meanwhile, the BMW with a smaller gas tank low fuel efficiency demands frequent visits to the gas station.

Interior
6.4/10

Interiors of the Audi S7 present great fit and finish with premium material quality encircling each and every surface. Although this is synonymous with every Audi, the S7 additionally gets the S-specific flourishes to add spice to its cabin.

There is abundant space all over the cabin and irrespective of your choice of seats, the comfort levels are top-notch. Even the bolstering is more than adequate on the front seats that aid while driving the car spiritedly. Meanwhile, the 24.5 cu-ft of trunk capacity is also among the best in the business, if not the best.

Both the BMW and the Mercedes offer a marginally better legroom up front than the Audi, but neither of them can match the rear seat ergonomics of the S7. The 6-series in fact has a very compact rear seat and isn’t even as wide as the other two, thus making it more suitable for kids and juveniles. The S7 also scores in practicality with about 50 percent more cargo volume than the other two.

  • Navigation w/Voice Recognition
  • Audi connect Mobile Hotspot Internet Access
  • Smart Device Integration

Exterior
9.9/10

The Audi S7 might have the dimensions of a luxury limousine but it looks as sharp and sporty as any of the coupe sports cars.

The raked-coupe roofline looks absolutely stunning as they complement the LED brake lights along with the projector headlamps that add quality and polish to the exteriors. The slick 5-spoke rims with tasteful use of chrome adds both sporty and luxury elements to the car.

The Audi S7 is a long, wide and low car, in fact the largest in this comparison and also weighs heavily. On the contrary, the 6-series is the shortest and exudes the shortest wheelbase which explains the scarcity of rear space. Although the low slung look of the S7 looks authoritative, one has to keep an eye out on bad surfaces to avoid scraping the underbelly of the S7.

Safety
8.0/10

The Audi S7 is a sporty luxury coupe and hence caters to a very specific segment of the market. Add to it the higher price tag and it translates to low sales volumes and thus it makes no sense to get the coupe crash tested for the sake of safety scores. Nonetheless, Audi is not amongst the ones to overlook the safety of its esteemed buyers and hence puts a lot of efforts and technology to bring their vision for safe driving into reality.

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Driveline Traction Control
  • Front And Rear Parking Sensors w/Back-Up Camera
  • Audi Side Assist Blind Spot
  • Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense rear
  • Low Tire Pressure Warning
  • Dual Stage Driver And Passenger Front, Knee and Seat-Mounted Side Airbags
  • SIDEGUARD Curtain 1st And 2nd Row Airbags
  • Airbag Occupancy Sensor

Final Verdict

The Audi S7 may not be as fast as the 6-series or the CLS 550, and neither is it the most affordable one as well. But what makes the S7 Sportback special is the accurate balance that it strikes between performance and luxury while offering a decent fuel efficiency and ample amounts of space for both the passengers and their cargo. This empowers the coupe to get a slight edge in practicality among the delicate rivalry that it ensues with its fellow Germans.
