Overall Rating
The Chevrolet City Express is a compact cargo van that is introducing a new model of commercial transportation.
The Chevrolet City Express is a compact cargo van that is introducing a new model of commercial transportation. It aims to provide a fuel-efficient and cost-effective goods transport mechanism that even though coming at the cost of lower cargo capacity aims to reduce costs for the operators.
We recommend buying the LT trim of the Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van as it only comes at the premium of about $1500. For this much extra, you get power door locks, heated mirrors, keyless entry, additional rear 12 V power outlet as well as rear parking sensors - features that are very much essential in a vehicle. There are also Appearance Packages and a Technology Package available which should add a lot of convenience features to the vehicle.

The Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van is offered in two trim levels - LS and LT, that offer the options mainly in terms of equipment levels. We get the same 2 L four-cylinder engine that produces 131 hp mated to a CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive. The base trim is a very bare-bones van with 15-inch steel wheels, sliding rear side doors, power front windows, cloth upholstery, air-conditioning, and a two-speaker sound system being some of the only features.

The 2016 Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van is offered with a 2 L in-line four-cylinder engine that is equipped with 131 hp and 139 pound-feet of torque. The refinement is decent although the engine never feels exciting. It is front-wheel-drive by default but there are no other powertrain options available. The only transmission offered is a continuously variable transmission automatic. The car sprints from 0-60MPH in 10.5 seconds which makes it pretty slow, even considering that it is a van.

From the results, we can see that the Chevrolet is not an especially powerful vehicle but it comes at a great price. The van feels slow and does not have much going for it in terms of performance. The RAM ProMaster City and Ford are not too fun to drive but have better performance credentials than the Chevrolet. However, in terms of real-world performance is the RAM that takes the cake due to its powerful engine. However, it is Nissan that has the best towing capacity of 2700 pounds and makes for the most practical choice.
The Chevrolet City Express’ 2 L inline-four cylinder engine has one major strength and that is fuel efficiency. It has a fuel capacity of 14.5 gallons and offers 24 MPG within city limits, 26 MPG on the highways, which results in a combined mileage of 25 MPG. This is definitely a big factor in terms of transport costs and would mean a significant reduction in the expenses of the fleet if one has several vehicles that are this fuel-efficient.

We can see that the powerful cars in the class, the RAM, and the Ford Transit Connect really suffered when it comes to fuel efficiency. Hence this wouldn’t be an advisable pick because it would mean a significant jump in terms of fuel costs. The Chevrolet City Express impressed us with its fuel efficiency but the trade-off for that was the huge drop it took in terms of performance. With a comparatively small fuel tank of 14.5 gallons, it still scores the highest range figures in the class.
The Chevrolet City Express’s interiors are one of its biggest strengths with a significantly pronounced attention to detail to make it functional. It is one of the nicest cabins among compact vans. Material quality is much better than we have generally come to expect from cars from this class. Seats are comfortable and offer generous support and the space offered is plenty. Cargo capacity is a very strong 122.7 ft.³ which is a rather high figure.

The front seat space is pretty evenly matched in all cars. Since all of these are cargo vans, they only offer seating for two adults. The Ford Transit Connect offers the least cargo space among its competitors, and this is an important parameter here. The Chevrolet and Nissan NV200 feel generous here but it is the RAM that has the most amount cargo space. The main interior features of the 2016 Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van include:
The Chevrolet City Express has very bare-bones infotainment, and the touchscreen system is available as an option only. The audio system is quite bad by any standards with its two-speaker sound system. The switchgear is easy to operate but does not have a lot of adjustment. Equipping the 5.8-inch touchscreen is recommended if users need any sort of infotainment. The main infotainment features of the 2016 Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van include-
The Chevrolet City Express Cargo is a redesigned Nissan NV 200. The manufacturer has started to exercise its creativity in bringing out an American identity to the Japanese product in its exterior design. The design used inside and outside the Chevrolet City Express has some consistency. It may not be described as beautiful but it is very much enough for the purpose it fulfills. Dimensionally, it is exactly on par with the Nissan.

The RAM ProMaster is a pretty big car when you compare it to its rivals. It is bigger than its rivals in all aspects and also significantly heavier while all the other competitors provide much better ground clearance. The Ford Transit is also very heavy despite being a small van. The Nissan offers slightly better ground clearance than the Chevrolet. The main exterior features of the 2016 Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van include:
The Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van nor the Nissan NV 200 that it is based on has not undergone any sort of crash test - be it NHTSA crash testing or IIHS. It is not unusual for commercial vehicles like this to skip this process and hence we cannot assume anything about its safety in a conclusive manner. In terms of features provided, it has very basic features again but should be adequately safe considering the standards of its class. The main safety features of the Chevrolet city express cargo Van include:
The 2016 Chevrolet City Express Cargo Van is a good compact cargo van that has good styling and a sufficient list of features. It is very low on performance but proves to be very frugal. It also has decent cargo capacity and low weight that should make it a dependable buy. Overall it is a good vehicle and recommended for anyone on the lookout for an automobile to fill a commercial requirement.
