Pros

  • Tremendous V12 engine
  • Razor sharp handling
  • Mesmerizing looks

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Less cargo space for a GT

The V12 engine puts out 731 horsepower and screams all the way up to 8,700 RPM.

Some might say that Ferraris are overrated, well they haven’t driven one yet. The F12 Berlinetta is Ferrari’s flagship and has the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever put on a production car.

Engine and Performance
7.8/10

The red-line is a wailing 8,700 rpm, and Ferrari says that 80 percent of the max torque is available from 2,500 rpm. -The Car Connection

The F12 is a front-mid-engine car which means that the engine block sits behind the front axle instead of sitting over it which results in better weight distribution for better handling dynamics. The 6.3L V12 generates 731 horsepower at 8,250 rpm along with 508 foot pounds of torque at 6,000 rpm through a seven speed dual clutch transmission that is lightning fast.

The claimed top speed is over 211 miles per hour which if you can see for yourself if you are feeling brave.

Fuel Economy
7.4/10

Talking about fuel economy for a car that has a 731 horsepower naturally aspirated V12 feels pointless but the Ferrari F12 still puts out decent numbers when you take in consideration the sheer performance it can offer. According to the EPA, the F12 does 12 mpg in the city, 16 mpg on the highway and 13 mpg combined.

Interior
7.0/10

Inside the F12 Berlinetta, the cabin is, as you'd expect of Ferrari's top GT, luxurious: leathers wrap most human interface elements, while high-tech F1-inspired switchgear adorns the controls.-The Car Connection

The Cabin is full of premium materials, you can choose between Alcantara, perforated Leather of your choice or whatever you want with the tailor made program. The dash is full of Formula 1 inspired switchgear especially the flat-bottom steering wheel that has most of the controls you need on it.

The cabin isn't as loud as the mid-engine Ferraris but you can still enjoy the naturally aspirated music when you rev the engine. The Cargo capacity is at 11 cubic feet allowing you to carry some stuff in your weekend getaways.

Exterior
8.1/10

The long, low body of the F12 Berlinetta is covered in dramatic, swooping lines.-The Car Connection

The Long hood and the short deck design language suits the thrilling nature of the F12. The swooping lines seem as if wind itself shaped the Berlinetta. From the outside the F12 looks gorgeous and elegant which suits its beastly character.

The long and wide stance of the F12 helps to give it aggression which most cars in this category lacks. Being a GT car the F12 is still light at 3,594 pounds of curb weight.

Safety
6.0/10

Some of the safety features are-

  • Antilock carbon-ceramic disc brakes
  • Traction and stability control
  • Front and rear parking sensors and side airbags
  • Front and rear parking cameras are optional

Competition
8.6/10

2016 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta vs. 2016 Aston Martin Vanquish

The Vanquish is the flagship from the Aston Martin also has a naturally aspirated 5.9L V12 that puts out 568 horsepower which is quite a lot but compared to the F12 seems less. Both the coupes look gorgeous and one would find it difficult to choose one over the other.

To decide which car is better is a tough job, if you are looking for something more affordable, the Aston is a great choice but it lacks the poise, power and razor-sharp handling of the F12 along with the prancing horse badge.

2016 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta vs. 2016 Lamborghini Aventador

When compared to the Aventador the F12 seems tamed, the Aventador is an all-out supercar with a 6.5L V12 that makes 700 horsepower through a single clutch transmission whereas the F12 has a dual-clutch transmission which feel decades ahead of the Lamborghini's transmission.

The Aventador will cost you over $400,000 and it is one of the craziest car that you can currently buy. Both the F12 and the Aventador will make you grin every time you rev the engine but the Ferrari feels more modern and sophisticated in comparison while the Aventador feels like an old school supercar.

Final Verdict

The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is full of performance and poise, it has razor sharp handling with precise steering input along with gut churning acceleration. The crown jewel is the V12 engine which offers exhilarating driving experience.

Every manufacturer seems to be moving towards turbochargers for power and efficiency Ferrari seems to be chasing after purity and enjoyable driving experience which is the reason why Ferrari is at the top of the food chain of supercar manufacturers. Overall, the F12 is a masterpiece from Maranello that is surely going to wake you up early every morning just to admire it.
