About 2016 Honda Civic

4.3

Overall Rating

The 2016 Honda Civic is all-new with improved practicality, fuel economy, power surge, and safety suite for a base price of $18,640.

The 2016 Honda Civic is an all-new sedan on offer at a starting price of $18,640 with updated front fascia, larger cabin, enhanced safety, and more powerful engines. Agile in its curves with its 158 hp and 174 hp engines, its production belt has been tweaked with LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, and Touring trims along with better fuel economy marking up to 42 MPG.

The Honda Civic comes blazing in 8 exterior colors with the utility of 15.2 cu-ft trunk on the back. And it goes for sale against the market share of the Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3, and Hyundai Elantra that are also finely equipped. However, the Civic sedan is not alone as the Coupe edition accompanies it.

The EX-Trim is the one to choose in this 2016 Honda Civic's lineup for it balanced proposition. Pounded by 174 hp I-4 engine with heated comfort seating as standard, the EX-T offers the best trade for its price tag. It also has improved infotainment and entertainment units as extras for its investment over the base configuration.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

"The Honda Civic has long been one of the better compact cars." - Edmunds

The 2016 Honda Civic comes as a 5-trim sedan starting with LX edition at an MSRP of $18,640. It features Cloth Seats on the inside and 16-inch steel wheels on the outside. The 4-speaker audio system and 5-inch color display have been also integrated. The EX introduces itself at $21,040 for the 7-inch high resolution touchscreen, 8-speaker audio system, and Apple Carplay & Android Auto compatibility.

The Honda Civic gets more expensive with the EX-T trim that costs $22,200 for values like the heated front seats, 17-inch alloy wheels, and decklid spoiler. While the EX-L further intensifies the offering with the leather-trimmed interior and 8-way power driver's seat for a $23,700 investment. The Touring is the last one at $26,500 that has been armed with premium audio, heated front and rear outboard seats, and Honda Sensing.

Engine and Performance
8.4/10

"It combines practicality, efficiency and everyday comfort with modest to maximum dashes of sportiness." - Kelley Blue Book

The 2016 Honda Civic has a standard 2.0L I-4 engine that makes 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. It couples with either 6-speed manual or CVT in the standard FWD layout for the LX and EX trims. However, its combo with manual transmission is confined to LX configuration only.

If you crave even more thrilling drive then the 1.5T I-4 powertrain is also there that churns 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque for the EX-T, EX-L, and Touring editions. It has been hooked with the same FWD platform but it chooses to be hitched with CVT only for all.

Coming on the performance front, the Honda Civic vouches for a 8.2 seconds 0-60 MPH acceleration and 16.3 seconds quarter-mile drag. It can even hit a top speed of 119 MPH without breaking a sweat. Meanwhile, the 1.5T engine does the same 0-60 MPH 1.5 seconds quicker.

Interior
8.2/10

"Civic's interior is full of premium materials and top-notch plastics." - Kelley Blue Book

After the redesign, the 2016 Honda Civic has now even bigger and more spacious cabin adorned with cloth upholstery for the LX, EX, and EX-T. While, the EX-L and Touring has been ornamented with leatherette touches all over the seats, steering, and inserts.

As far as comfort and ease are concerned, that is spirited by the heated front seats in the EX-T trim while the additional rear row heated seats come standard for the Touring edition. Also, a trunk capacity of 15.1 cu-ft has been given in the back that stays consistent for all.

Exterior

"It features aggressive and unique styling on the outside." - TrueCar

The 2016 Honda Civic is now one of the best-drawn, sleekest, most appealing shapes on the road. At the nose, there's a strong band of chrome that brackets the grille and headlamps and knits them together. It's not alone, though. There are slits, intakes, creases, not to mention a bevy of textures and colors like Crystal Black Pearl and Cosmic Blue.

It's more formal, busier in appearance than the simpler deep-set grille on, say, the new HR-V hatchback. Down the side, the Civic's 16-inch/17-inch wheels intersect well with steeply surfaced sills; at the rear, the lovely roofline tapers into another set of bracketed lamps that really masks the fact that the Civic is a sedan, not a hatchback.

Also, it is 260 lbs heavier than the Elantra because of which the former has to have extra cornering lateral shift, thereby, affecting the stability. Some of the exterior features have been mentioned:

  • Rain-sensing Auto Wipers
  • LED headlights
  • 17-inch alloy wheels
  • Rear lip spoiler
  • Bodyside molding

2016 Honda Civic vs. 2016 Toyota Corolla

The 2016 Honda Civic and the 2016 Toyota Corolla are two top-dogs in this segment with their impressive structural build, safety assets, and overall practicality. Though the Civic has got more power, the Corolla goes farther with its better range capacity. In terms of seating Corolla might appear more comfortable but trunk volume favors the Civic. So, both are at par with each other.

2016 Honda Civic vs 2016 Mazda 3

The 2016 Honda Civic has been engineered to be an aggressive drive just like the 2016 Mazda 3. However, it does not have the reach as that of the Mazda 3. But with better cargo capacity and seating roominess, one might overlook that void. On the whole, one can go either way.

2016 Honda Civic vs 2016 Hyundai Elantra

The 2016 Honda Civic and the 2016 Hyundai Elantra might have edge over one another in power surge and range coverage respectively. But the cabin arrangement and comparable safety suite keep them on the same level. Therefore, the preference tail could tilt any side.
