Overall Rating
The Honda Odyssey is considered as one of the best minivans in the market owing to its large cabin and abundant interior space which can accommodate average American adults even its third row of seats with relative comfort. Add to that the high reliability and factor that comes along with every Honda, the final product makes it difficult to choose anything else in the segment.
The 2016 Honda Odyssey is considered as one of the best minivans in the market owing to its large cabin and abundant interior space which can accommodate average American adults even its third row of seats with relative comfort. Add to that the high-reliability factor that comes along with every Honda, the final product makes it difficult to choose anything else in the segment.
Since Honda has not changed anything as compared to the previous 2015 model year, the tried and tested formula won’t disappoint yet again. The prices start from $30,490 and go all the way to $45,965 and compete against the likes of the Toyota Sienna and the Kia Sedona, both of which are considerably cheaper than the Honda.
Although there are many fancy features available in the higher trims, opting for the EX-L trim should suffice most needs of a family while also saving a considerable amount of money on features that would otherwise be seldomly used. Thus, the EX-L trim has the best value for money proposition in the lineup.

The 2016 Honda Odyssey is available in five trims and add-on packages to help the buyers tailor their wants and needs according to their budgets. Although it gets pricier towards the upper end of the spectrum, the higher price tag brings in fancy features like ventilation ducts for the third-row seats, and reclining second-row seats amongst various other features. The 2016 Honda Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 engine that produces 248 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission, and there is no option for an all-wheel-drive drivetrain available.
The decent power output from this V6 engine is enough to accelerate this large minivan from 0-60 mph in just 7.7 seconds from standstill, whereas the quarter-mile is completed in 15.8 seconds. Though not many would use a family minivan for towing stuff, the 3,500 lbs towing capacity is always a handy add-on.

In spite of having lower engine output than the competition, the Odyssey does well to compete with them in terms of acceleration and towing prowess. The Kia Sedona is the most affordable minivan here and yet offers the highest power and torque figures. The Toyota Sienna has marginally more power than the Honda Odyssey and is also only marginally cheaper. All three vans offer similar levels of performance with very little to differentiate between them.
The Odyssey lives up to Honda's reputation of building fuel-efficient cars. The 2016 Honda Odyssey is rated by the EPA with a fuel economy of 19 mpg around the town and 28 mpg out on the highway, while the combined fuel economy is rated at 21 mpg. The large 21-gallon gas tank also assists in the driving range as it can be driven for over 450 miles of combined city and highway driving before having to hit the gas station.

The Kia Sedona is the least efficient of the lot, and despite featuring the largest fuel tank amongst the cars present here, the driving range isn’t on par with the Honda Odyssey. The Toyota Sienna is marginally more efficient than the Sedona with a combined fuel economy of 21 mpg, and thanks to the smaller fuel tank, has a driving range similar to that of the Kia.
Since the interior of the 2016 Honda Odyssey is a purpose-built people mover, it offers a range of seating arrangements to cater to all the different needs one might have. The multi-function middle row seats offer such versatility that is hardly seen on any other car even on higher segments. It can be removed, folded, and moved forward to suit the need of the hour.Â
Top-of-the-line models also feature Honda's unique built-in vacuum with a 10-foot hose to clear all the mess created by the kids in every corner of the minivan. The Odyssey also offers acres of space to carry luggage and cargo even with all seats upright; fold them down, and there is enough cargo space for you to camp inside it for the adventurer inside you.

There is no competition to the Honda Odyssey’s interior space, even in the third row. It offers class-leading legroom for all occupants, while there is also plenty of space for their luggage. The Toyota Sienna wins in the cargo capacity category but only by a minute margin, whereas Kia Sedona is the most compact in all these aspects. Major interior features include:
The large 8.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display offers great functionality with various controls, applications, and even doubles as a backup camera screen. Lower trims make use of a 7-speaker audio system with a subwoofer, which in itself is pretty good for the price point.
But as you go up the trims, Honda offers a 12-speaker Premium Audio System with 5.1 channel surround sound. Few key features include-
The exterior appearance of the Honda Odyssey is quintessentially Honda with slim swept-back angular headlamps, chrome grille, and smooth flowing character line all around the car. The window line rises up but then dips down for the third row to receive adequate space and not make the occupants feel claustrophobic.
The sliding rear doors add a lot of practicality and aid in ingress and egress of both the second and third row of seats. The Honda Odyssey is quite a heavy minivan with a curb weight of 4396 pounds. It is also the longest with a long wheelbase that provides great interior spacing.

The Honda Odyssey is also the widest minivan here but lacks considerably in terms of ground clearance. The Toyota Sienna and the Kia Sedona, both offer substantially higher ground clearance. Although the Kia Sedona has the longest wheelbase, it does not translate to interior space, whereas the Odyssey with its shortest wheelbase feels the most efficient. Major exterior highlights include-
Honda has always done well in the safety department, and the 5-star rating from the NHTSA crash tests and the ‘Top Safety Pick’ award from the IIHS is a clear indication of that. Honda manages to achieve such results with the help of the long-range of safety features that the Odyssey has on offer to provide a safe and comfortable haven for buyers and their beloved. There is an extensive list of the safety technology on offer and a highlight of which is listed below.
There is a reason why the 2016 Honda Odyssey has been a crowd favorite for a while now, the first is its reliability and the second is its practicality. Although the Toyota Sienna is fresh off the update and Kia Sedon’s crossover-inspired styling is something that really grabs your attention, on the whole, Odyssey’s abundant features and safety technology make it the perfect companion if you have to have a minivan in your life.
