Pros

  • Comfortable Interior
  • Decent Acceleration
  • Sporty Looks

Cons

  • Lacks engaging drive

The 2016 Toyota Camry is surely a jack of all trades but the king of none as it won't blow your mind in anything it does. Meanwhile, a complacent and planted ride is what thesedan excels at, along with a neverending promise for reliability.

Overview

Toyota Camry has been the best-selling car in America for good reason, it offers an incredible blend of comfort, performance, and efficiency, along with reliability at an affordable price. The Camry steps up the game substantially for the brand, the new 2016 revamped Camry offers great mileage along with best-in-class cabin space and sporty looks. It is one of the nimble and sportier cars of the segment.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The 2016 Toyota Camry comes with 4 standard trims. Their SE and the XSE trims are more crafted for a sporty outlook, whilst the LE and the XLE have trims that have better luxury upgrades. The 2016 Camry's base trim (LE) is priced at $23,070. At this tag, it is a little more expensive than what is offered by the rivals. Here is a list of the key features that are available with the trims of the 2016 Toyota Camry.

The four trims of the Camry have specific offerings as per your needs. However, the SE trim fares above the rest for a practical buyer, or if you're looking to get the most out of your Camry at the right price. You may also opt for the more pricey XLE trim with the powerful V-6 engine, but the upscale leather filled interiors is truly worth the price.

We Recommend

If you need a car for your city rides, office commutes, or long drives, the Camry has it all to offer. With its superior fuel economy and impressive performance, coupled with luxury interiors and convenient handling, Camry beats its competitors any day. The SE trim is the most recommended for any practical buyer. Its convenient features along with the sporty outlook do the trick. Also, you can opt for the 3.5L V-6 engine, if you hit the tracks often.

Engine and Performance
7.1/10

Like the average mid-size car segment, the standard versions of the 2016 Toyota Camry come with a regular 2.5 L i-4, which makes up to 178 hp at 170 lb-ft torque. The Camry's engine comes with two choices, either the regular inline-4 or the more powerful V-6. The 3.5 L V-6 engine is more powerful, producing 268 hp at 248 lb-ft torque. Upgrading to the V-6 will cost you $5,000 more. Though the 2016 Camry is more of a mid-sized sedan known for its luxurious and comfortable ride around the city, it also has a fair acceleration to keep up with the competition. Its 2.5 liters 4 cylinder engine is powerful enough to make the car accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 8 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 16.32 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Camry offers a Semi-Automatic Transmission with its paddle shifters, which enhances the ride quality proportionately. On the other hand, steering your Camry is an absolute delight. Toyota has indeed left no stone unturned to ensure the luxury of its upscale interiors, which aid on to its top-of-the-class driving experience. Last but not least, the Camry is designed for its ulterior performance and is a very reliable car for you and your family. The powerful V-6 engine decelerates from 70 mph to a complete halt at 189 feet.

Both the Hyundai Sonata and the Honda Accord come with stock 2.4-liter inline-4 cylinder engines. The capacity for the Camry is just slightly higher, but it's at most comparable with the rest. The Honda Accord's engine delivers 189 hp, marginally stronger than the Camry. The Hyundai Sonata's engine also delivers 185 hp. The Chevrolet Malibu stalls at 160 hp, much lower than the Camry. There's enough credibility on the Camry's engine that it already gives it a run for its class already. The Camry does very well compared to its peers for a number of reasons and makes for a great choice. Much better than the Honda Accord in the braking terms, nevertheless.

Fuel Economy
8.0/10

The 2016 Toyota Camry offers a decent fuel economy and is among the best in class. You won't have to worry about hitting the refill station often. The fuel economy for the standard 2.5-liter inline-4 engine gives 24 city/33 highway and 26 combined. Consequently, the more powerful 3.5 L V-6 engine gives 21 city/30 highway and 24 combined. Over the previous year's model, the overall fuel economy has gone down from 25 city/34 highway and 28 combined, for the standard 2.5-liter inline-.

The Chevrolet Malibu wins the cake this time, earning 36 mpg on the highway. The Camry performs a little below average than its peers. Considering the statistics, it is no more of a tangible choice to choose among the three. However, the vast array of luxuries the Camry provides, coupled with its extra comfort of driving, makes it a subtle and decent pick. The base LE trim will make a great pick, however, the upgraded 3.5 L V-6 engine is sure to add the extra horsepower you'd want on a Texas freeway, in the best fuel economy.

Interior
6.6/10

The 2016 Toyota Camry's interior quality is one of the best in this segment. The cabin is attractive and adorned with high-quality materials. The infotainment controls are intuitive and easy to use while driving. There is plenty of room in the front and the back, and taller passengers won't feel cramped in the rear. The Camry's interior is spacious and comfortable, with wide accommodating front seats and a back seat that's big enough for adults. The center stack is extremely well organized, with intuitive buttons and knobs to control the car's infotainment and climate-control systems.

The seats in the 2016 Toyota Camry are an absolute luxury. The material quality and the finishing gives it its upscale, posh outlook. All Camry's have the 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support. The 8-way power-adjustable driver seats in XLE and XSE trims are heated as well, which aids the already upscale interior. To add to it, there's faux leather seating trim on the edges of the seat on the SE. The LE has cloth seating trim on the edges. On the other hand, there's ample space on the interior of the 2016 Camry, but is at par with its peers.

Lined up with its peers, the Camry does better in a few aspects, offering more rear legroom and shoulder room. There's also greater rear headroom for the Camry. However, it is evident that the Sonata has a lot more space than the Accord or the Camry, and is a good choice. But even then, the convenience features of the Camry, coupled with its safety record makes up for a great buy and is definitely worth considering. Few key interior features include-

  • Air Conditioning
  • Front Seatback Storage
  • Cruise Control
  • Electric Power Steering
  • Rear View Camera
  • Tilt And Telescopic Steering Wheel

  • Speed-Sensitive Volume Control
  • 6 Total Speakers
  • Hands-free Calling

Exterior
7.5/10

The 2016 Toyota Camry exterior is narrower and shorter than many other family sedans, though the margin is a few inches or less in each case. With such a small variation compared to the competition, it's hard to notice any real-world effects of the Camry's relatively small footprint. Like all mid-size sedans, the Camry is easy to maneuver into parking spaces and through cramped garages.

While there's no eye-catcher in the figures above, the Camry does well, marginally nonetheless. It has a much better ground clearance compared to its peers, being almost the same size. The wheelbase of the Camry is an attraction, with each of the Camry trims offering enhanced wheel dimensions with a touch of fancy.

The 2016 Camry is a substantially long vehicle, but these dimensions are merely converted to the cabin space we need. This means that the host vehicle has a lower wheelbase, and thus, a smaller cabin, meanwhile, rivals like the Chevrolet Malibu and the Hyundai Sonata inherit the longest distances between the axles. On the other hand, the Camry stands tall in front of its rivals, and still offers better handling than them, thanks to the lower weight of the sedan. Overall, the Camry looks very sleek and aerodynamic and exhibits a sweet sense of luxury with its sophisticated design. Exterior features of the 2016 Toyota Camry includes:

  • Rear Spoiler
  • Alloy Wheel Locks
  • Special Color
  • Door Edge Guards
  • Rear Bumper Applique
  • Body Side Moldings
  • Door Sill Enhancements
  • Lower Door Moldings
  • Paint Protection Film
  • 17" Painted Alloy Wheels
