2016 Toyota Sienna is very reliable.

Pros

The space inside the car., The power and acceleration.

Cons

The car has horrible miles per gallon fuel efficiency., The radio display screen blacks out quick.

The interior of the Sienna has a lot of leg room and seats up to 8 people. There’s plenty of compartments to fit any and all of your belongings in the center console, glove compartment, the little drawer above the glove compartment, and sides of the front, middle, and back of the car for your drinks. The trunk has enough space to everyday items, and you can even put the very back seat all the w... Read more

2016 Toyota Sienna Review

Pros

  • Comfortable, spacious seating in all rows
  • Top-notch interior quality
  • Available all-wheel drive
  • Large cargo area for a minivan

Cons

  • Harsh engine sound when pushed
  • Rough ride in sport-tuned SE trim
  • Pricier than most competitors

There have been no major changes to the 2016 Toyota Sienna over the last year's model. It carries forward the same V6 engine from the previous year which provides great overall performance.

Overview

The Toyota Sienna is a highly successful premium minivan that has been on sale since 1997. The van poses as an excellent family mover by offering superior comfort and practicality. To further enhance its practicality factor, it is also available in an AWD layout as well. The van is powered by a standard 3.5-liter V6 motor offering strong performance, making the van extremely versatile.

The 2016 Sienna offers a seating for eight people. The car received a major interior refresh last year itself, and that allowed for a smoother experience on the inside thanks to the more user-friendly approach on the inside. The Sienna offers a very stable ride, with great handling and steering. For a minivan, the Sienna has a bit of a sporty touch as well. On the downside, the Sienna is expensive compared to its rivals, the second row seats are a bit problematic and some complain of the harsh engine noises as well.

Pricing and Features
8.0/10

The Toyota Sienna comes with numerous features and trims to choose from. The minivan offers quite a number of sub-trims to increase the passenger-carrying capacity as well as a more practical AWD system. The higher trim levels offer excellent comfort features that can only be found in ultra-luxurious sedans.

The van comes in two passenger-carrying capacities: 7 seats and 8 seats. The main trim levels amount to five and the price of the base L trim starts at $28,850. As you climb up the trim level the features list increase generously and the top-end Limited Premium trim is priced at $45,270 for the FWD layout and can also be hand in an AWD layout as well. The FWD models of the Sienna get an optional Advanced Technology package that adds adaptive cruise control and a forward-collision warning system.

Engine and Performance
8.3/10

The Toyota Sienna is powered by a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 motor under the hood. The motor generates a maximum of 266 horsepower and 245lb-ft of max torque. Performance is quite punchy for the minivan standards and city driving feels seamless with excellent mid-range performance of the motor. As standard, the car comes with a front drive configuration.

When the van is fully loaded, the motor doesn’t struggle much but gets quite vocal and harsh when you push it hard. The 6-speed automatic transmission keeps the motor relaxed and delivers all the power efficiently to the wheels. The optional AWD system bogs down the performance to some extent but adds a lot more practicality to the van.

The Honda Odyssey comes with a similar powertrain to the Sienna but has a lower horsepower rating but a slightly better torque output. The Kia Sedona has exactly 10 horsepower more than the Sienna and a marginal 3lb-ft of more torque. Also the Kia's torque kicks in earlier than the other two. The Kia's priced at a much lower value as well. The Toyota makes the least torque among these three.

Acceleration and Braking

The front-wheel drive Sienna can sprint to 60mph from a standstill within 7.5 seconds, an impressive number for a minivan. The quarter-mile comes up in 15.7 seconds, not bad for a minivan. Its the fastest among these three cars. The Honda comes in second with a 0-60 mph time of 7.7 seconds, just 0.1 seconds ahead of the Kia's time of 7.8 seconds. In the quarter-mile run, the Kia beats the Honda by 0.1 second.

The Kia Sedona has the most top speed at 125 mph. In terms of stopping distance, the Sedona performs well, with a stopping distance of 119 feet. The Toyota Sienna takes the most at 127 feet, whereas the Odyssey takes one foot less at 126 feet. The Sienna has the biggest front brake, whereas the Odyssey has the biggest rear brake.

Handling And Steering

The handlling on the Sienna is just amazing. The V6 engine, coupled with the 6-speed transmission does a fabulous job of a linear power delivery. The acceleration is always crisp, never lagging. Complimenting the engine is the steering of this car. The car is a easy handler, turning on inputs and not swaying at all. The excellent ride quality is matched with a firm but sufficient suspension set-up. The front suspension is a strut setup, whereas the rear uses a torsion beam setup.

The steering on the Sienna is precise, and it turns on the dime. There is no loss of communication between the driver and the car, allowing for more confidence and power. The car is tight to turn as well, with a steering diameter of 37.5 feet. The refinement makes for a great handling experience as well.

Exterior
7.5/10

The 2016 Sienna comes with body panels with an updated design language it received back in 2015. The Sienna looks like a humble minivan always ready on its toes to perform any given task. The front fascia looks smart with the new mesh front grille design and the side profile looks quite bulky and curvy, giving it a solid road presence. Some subtle and elegant design cues such as a sharp crease along its shoulder and bold window design help it stand against some modern-looking minivans in its segment. Overall, the Sienna won’t disappoint with its design since it is more focused on delivering a comfortable family trip.

In terms of dimensions, the Sienna is the shortest among these three minivans. In terms of height as well, it has the least height at 76.2 inches. However, the Sienna sits pretty high above the ground, giving it a tall profile that the others don't match. It is also the heaviest car among the three, at 4560 lbs, so the performance on this will surprise you.
