The base Audi R8 V10 Quattro is sufficient for all types of needs including track days, but opting for the Plus variant upgrades and provides some extra features. We recommend the R8 V10 unless you want the ultimate performance-oriented machine as it has got the Quattro all-wheel drive and great performance. 

Powered by the 5.2-liter engine the 2017 Audi R8 generates a whopping 540 hp and 398 pound-feet of torque while its big bro the V10 Plus levels up to 610 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. Both the trim levels come with an all-wheel drive and a seven-speed automated manual transmission "S Tronic," which is standard across the lineup. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system boosts up the engine, which can send up to 100 percent of torque to the front axle as and when required.

The brand claims that the V10 Plus could reach up to 205 mph as its maximum capacity. The 7-speed automatic transmission is smooth in operation and thus provides a comfortable ride. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system provides great control around the corners, especially the V10 Plus variant which is much more track-focused. 

Others in this category like the Jaguar F-Type SVR and the Mclaren 570s go beyond the average performance in the race. The Jaguar SVR can produce 575 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, making it the king in its class, but it has certainly compromised with the ride quality in order to maximize its engine potential.

2017 Audi R8 0-60 MPH Acceleration

The 2017 Audi R8 with its powerful engine not only produces galloping 610 horsepower but is also quick on the road. The addition of all-wheel traction and launch control yields a 0-60-mph acceleration in mere 2.7 seconds for the R8 Plus, while the base variant of R8 Quattro is just a few seconds behind, taking 3.5 seconds to reach 0-60 mph, and is way better than its previous avatar thanks to its lesser curb weights. Other coupes in this segment produce similar output and are equally competitive like the R8.

While the 2017 Mclaren 570S is the fastest to reach 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, the R8 crosses the quarter-mile first in 10.6 seconds. The R8, AMG GTS, and the F-Type SVR, all reach 60mph in an identical 3.5 seconds, while the Mclaren is the second to cross the quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds, followed by the Jaguar F-Type SVR in 11.2 seconds and the Mercedes AMG GT S in 11.5 seconds respectively.

How well does the Audi R8 Coupe Ride and Handle?

Being exceptionally capable, the 2017 Audi R8 is fitted with a more aggressive damper setup, which soaks up bumps quite remarkably and provides a comfortable ride that you could tolerate without fatigue on longer hauls. However, when the R8 is in a full attack mode, then it gives a setback to the driver as it doesn't handle corners as confidently or with as much sheer grip as its peers, and as expected from a supercar, it may sometimes make you feel unsettled which is least expected from a car of this class.

The mileage of this coupe is so low that it is estimated that the R8 buyer would be paying around $1,300 as part of the sale price. Other cars in this variant are no better as all of them sip a high amount of fuel. However, the R8 has the largest fuel capacity of 21.9 gallons, followed by the Mercedes with 19.8 gallons. The Jaguar F-Type SVR has a fuel capacity of 18.5 gallons and the Mclaren has the smallest tank of 16 gallons.

The 2017 Audi R8 interior has a modest amount of space in its cabin. Tall drivers may feel a bit of a pinch because of its abbreviated legroom measurement. There is not much difference between its convertible model and the coupe.
