When you think Audi, you relate to sporty handling, amazing technology, and lighting performance. And the 2017 Audi S5 Coupe is nothing short of it.
When you think Audi, you relate to sporty handling, amazing technology, and lighting performance. And the 2017 Audi S5 Coupe is nothing short of it. With impressive numbers, smart pricing, and the trust with Audi as a brand ensure the reliability of the new coupe.
For the 2017 model year, Audi has updated almost every significant thing in the S5. There is a new engine on offer, redesigned interior and exteriors, new chassis, and additional safety features, all make it an exciting prospect at just $53,100 as it goes up against its age-old German rivals, BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The Audi S5 has 2 trims- the Manual variant and the S-Tronic Automatic variant. The peak power in both the trims is the same and so does the feature list. The price difference between the two also is pretty nominal and as is usually the case with the gearbox prices.

Since the only choice that you have to make is about the type of transmission, it entirely depends on the personal preference of an individual buyer. Also, Audi offers various add-on packages that enhance the overall experience even further for an added premium. So if budget isn’t a constraint, the extra tech would definitely be worth the extra money spent.
The Audi S5 Coupe is packed with a 3.0L TFSI V6 motor that produces a decent 333 brake horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The V6 now has better turbochargers that spool up quicker resulting in no turbo lag, therefore; instant throttle response and loads of low-end torque.
The S-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission is very smooth and blissful to use. The shifts are lightning-fast which ensures fun while driving. Also, the manual 6-speed transmission is surprisingly crisp and shifts into gears easily without any jerking. However, for faster acceleration runs the automatic transmission needs to opt.

The BMW 440i and the Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 also consist of a 3L turbocharged V6 motor. While the BMW has a single turbocharger, the Mercedes takes lead with its dual turbo engine churning out a respectable 362 brake horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. The C43 has a 9-speed automatic gearbox giving it a smooth ride as well as a higher power band to perform better.
The Audi S5 takes 4.5 seconds to reach from 0-60 mph and 13 seconds flat to run the quarter-mile. Though the car is exceptionally quick but feels faster than it actually is, although some of the competition is a bit quicker.
The top speed is limited to 155 mph and reaching triple-digit speeds takes hardly any time.

The BMW 440i comes closely behind the Audi S5 at 4.8 seconds to reach 0-60 mph while the Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 wins it by almost half a second. It is also the quickest in the quarter-mile run as well as the Biturbo engine of the Merc plays a crucial role in the same. The BMW 440i is the slowest car here, but the margin is pretty slim.
The Audi S5 Coupe has robust brakes that help stop it the quickest amongst its competition. The technology used is immaculate and proves to be life-saving in case of situations demanding sudden braking as well. It features a set of 13.6-inch diameter front and 13-inch rear brake rotors to ensure quick braking and has a braking distance of 110 feet.

The brakes used in the Audi are not the biggest, but still, it is able to stop 4 feet before the Mercedes does and 3 feet before the much lighter BMW does. The Audi is no doubt the best as far as braking is considered despite being the heaviest of the lot. BMW makes use of similar-sized brakes and is also lighter by 300 lbs and cannot outperform the S5.
Despite having abundant power under its hood, the S5 is easy to live with and does not require to be too cautious with the throttle responses in slow-moving traffic. The manual gearbox offers accurate gates and is a joy to use, so is the S-Tronic automatic transmission which offers silky-smooth yet precision shifts.
The steering is accurate and responsive at both city and highway speeds and if driving spiritedly, although the car gives a sports-car-like feel, the tires do start to squeal. The standard suspension provides a perfect balance between comfort and sport and is pliant over most surfaces as the optional adaptive suspension is tuned a bit on the softer side and spoils the sporty nature of the car.
As far as fuel economy is concerned, the S5 doesn't have the best-in-class economy, but delivers a decent 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg out on the highway, while it is rated for 21 mpg for a combined city and highway driving by the EPA. The fuel economy doesn't come off as a negative when you focus on the performance aspect of the Audi S5 Coupe.

However, the BMW and the Mercedes have better fuel economy than the S5. The BMW wins this one with the highest economy claimed and despite having a small gas tank, the driving range is on par with the C 43 which features a much larger fuel tank.
For a luxury coupe, the seating capability of 4 passengers does not seem justified. The sloping roofline for the coupe type body of the car compromises the seating comfort in the rear seats.
Headroom and shoulder room are not much, however; the passengers in the front are comfortable in the leather seats.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 feels nice and plush but crammed in the rear. It feels smaller in the cabin and only the front seats are comfortable. It cannot be called practical for weekend trips but daily commuting is definitely possible. The BMW however, is very spacious and airy when compared to the other cars in context. It has lots of headroom, legroom, as well as shoulder room in the front but the rear seats are good only for kids.
The interior has received a substantial upgrade from the previous model and it now gets Audi's latest and improved MMI system which has previously already been seen on the A4, TT, and R8.
The optional virtual cockpit just enhances the cabin experience to a whole nother level with an 8.3-inch center screen. The 14-speaker premium Bang & Olufsen audio system is a delight for audiophiles while the system gets satellite radio and built-in storage for storing your music.
With a decent cargo volume of 12.2 cu-ft, it can be used as a daily driver and be practical enough for a weekend getaway for 2 adults. The trunk lid opening is small though which makes loading and unloading cargo a bit difficult. The competition offers a much wider and slightly larger trunk, making cargo capacity a weak spot for the S5.

The BMW 440i Coupe has the best cargo volume of 15.7 cu-ft which makes it the most practical luxury coupe with similar performance figures. Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 has marginally lower space in the trunk as compared to the BMW, while the Audi has the smallest trunk capacity which makes it lose a point.
Even though the Audi S5 is loaded with features and technology, it manages to weigh less than 4000 pounds which are considered to be a good weight for a luxury coupe. The handling is amazing and the Quattro AWD technology of the Audi helps make it razor-sharp and precise while steering. This helps in cornering perfectly at high speeds as well making it a very confidence-inspiring car.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 is a car with similar dimensions and weighs just a few pounds more than the S5. It has a lower ground clearance than the Audi producing more downforce for better handling, but at high speeds, the Audi is a better vehicle to choose from.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the nonprofit, independent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) evaluate vehicles for crashworthiness in the United States. It rates vehicles out of 5 stars/Good to Poor scale respectively. However, the new Audi S5 has not yet been rated by either of the authorities. But it does feature loads of safety gear to keep its occupants safe in all situations and a highlight of these features is listed below.
The BMW 440i costs $48,500, making it almost $6000 cheaper than the automatic Audi. The acceleration of the BMW is only 0.1 seconds slower than the Audi making it a better alternative and value for money keeping in mind that for the price difference one can opt for all the carbon fiber trim options. The bonus is the fuel economy of the Beemer.
Cargo volume, interior comfort, and easy-to-use hand gesture infotainment system along with BMW's iDrive Select technology are all features that make it a better pick to the Audi S5 Coupe for the price it asks.
The Mercedes is priced at $55,500 MSRP with more power and torque and sounds like a better alternative. But it has the slowest braking, least cargo volume, and is the heaviest of the three.
The Audi S5 has far better handling and ensures safer drive with all the technology like sudden brake aid, airbags in the curtains, seats, steering, and side columns. It also has much better space than the C43 making it more practical. Audi S5 Coupe is better than the Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 overall.
The 2017 Audi S5 is a value for money coupe that delivers good performance, precise handling, robust braking, and all the comfort one needs. It has decent fuel economy, good cargo volume, and a very addictive exhaust note from the sporty V6 motor. It falls a bit short at comforting the rear passengers and at rearward visibility but doesn't fail to bring a smile to the occupant's face.
The BMW 440i is a cheaper alternative with similar performance numbers and loads of space in the seats as well as the trunk. The Mercedes-Benz AMG C 43 fails to match against the S5 Coupe as long as the pricing remains the same.
