Love my cruze!

Pros

Super easy on gas without sacrificing the power, The car will really get up n go when u get on the gas

Cons

Sometimes difficult to connect devices via bluetooth, sets very low so dragging is sometimes an issue

I honestly love my Chevy cruze! Its got a sporty look and feel to while all while being roomy and comfy! Has plenty of power but is still super easy on gas! The speakers are perfect for the car. They're very loud with just the right amount if bass! All in all its been a great car for my kiddos and myself!

The ups and downs of a 2017 Chevy Cruze

Pros

Great gas mileage, Apple/android car play

Cons

Small trunk, Hard seats

The Chevy Cruze is one of the few cheap vehicles on the market that comes with Apple/android car play stock. Not only does it have that but the sound system in the car is unbeatable for the price. Great sound quality and heavy bass when needed. My Chevy Cruze averages around 28-30 mpg and that’s mostly backroad/city driving. When I do drive on the highway I can get up to 40 mpg! 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Review

Pros

  • Good interior and cargo space
  • Good standard infotainment system

Cons

  • Does not have cruise control on base trims, even as optional extra

The best part of the sedan is it is stylish and simple. It comes with the basics of comfortable seats with cloth upholstery, leather is available on the higher trims, a turbocharged engine that actually works well and is very economical.

Overview

The Chevrolet Cruze comes with a Turbocharged 1.4 liter Inline-4 making 153hp and 177lb-ft of torque. It comes with a manual transmission as standard, which we like a lot, and has the option of an automatic transmission as well. The interiors are basic but very good looking and come with a practical infotainment system which has all the features. The best part is that it is a simple practical sedan meant to take you and your family from A to B without any issues. The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is offered at a starting MSRP of $16,975.

Pricing and Features
6.0/10

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan comes in four trims. All these trims are powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that generates about 153 hp at 5500 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. It is a five-passenger car and gives a combined fuel economy of 32 mpg. All the trims are offered in manual as well as automatic transmission.

We recommend

While the Base version contains all the basic features that one requires in this price range, I would suggest going for the LS variant as it gets the Chevrolet MyLink system and remote keyless entry amongst other features at not much of a price difference. LS trim has the best value for money proposition in the lineup.

Engine and Performance
7.8/10

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that produces about 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, with the option of automatic becoming available on the higher trims (LT, LS, Premier).

Then comes the Honda Civic LX making 158hp and 138 lb-ft of torque, and following this is the Chevrolet Cruze making 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The two rivals of Cruze with a bigger engine as standard.

Acceleration

One cannot expect super-fast acceleration performance from the cars of this segment. The Chevrolet Cruze L does the 0-60 sprint in 7.9 seconds and the standing quarter-mile in 16.1 seconds, then it will continue to its top speed of 120 mph. These numbers are good for an affordable starter car.

Braking

The Chevrolet Cruze comes with 10.8-inch brake rotors on the front and 10.5-inch rotors on the rear, which are decent for the segment. The brakes are disc brakes and have the features of ABS and brake assist. The brakes are good enough to bring the Chevrolet Cruze to a stop from 60 mph in 121 feet.

The shortest stopping distance of the above is the Ford Focus S and the Honda Civic both setting a stopping distance of 117 feet. Then comes the Chevrolet Cruze which set a stopping distance of 121 feet.

Ride and Handling

The ride of the Chevrolet Cruze is smooth and quite nice. The suspension does try and remove all the bumps in the road and some of the big ones you will feel inside. The handling is well balanced, even though for us it does feel a little on the light side, but for anyone else it will be just right, this makes the everyday drive quite relaxed, and you will feel nice and calm when driving around town.

Fuel Economy
8.3/10

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Sedan gives a fuel economy of 28 mpg in the city, 39 mpg on the highway, and a combined mpg of 32. Chevrolet Cruze comes with a 13.7-gallon fuel tank, allowing it to have a range of 384 miles in the city, 534 miles on the highway, and a combined range of 438 miles.

In terms of combined range the Chevrolet Cruze offers the most with 438 miles, then comes the Honda Civic with 396 miles and the Ford Focus S with 347 miles, the least range of the above cars. Honda Civic stands together with Cruze in the fuel economy department as both the sedans offer a combined mileage of 32 mpg.

Interior
8.5/10

The Chevrolet Cruze can accommodate 5 occupants in the cabin. The interior has been designed well and looks good. The base trim has a 6-way manually adjusting the driver’s seat and a 2-way manually adjustable front passenger seat. As you go higher up, you get a power-adjustable driver seat, however, the front passenger is still manually adjustable.

The upholstery in the Cruze is cloth on the base L trim, however, with the interior design being good, you actually don’t mind it. There is the option of leather upholstery, and it does come standard on the Premier trim. There is also a two-tone interior, which is designed in a way that is quite attractive. There is automatic air-conditioning on all trims.

The Honda Civic offers the most legroom in the front and in the rear. The Chevrolet Cruze offers the next best space being marginally lesser than the Honda Civic in the front and back rows. Then comes the Ford Focus S which offers considerably less space in the back rows. Few key features include-

  • 6-way manually adjustable driver seat
  • 2-way manually adjustable front passenger’s seat
  • Available power-adjustable driver seat
  • Cloth upholstery
  • Available leather upholstery (standard on the Premier trim)
  • Available two-tone interior

Infotainment

The Chevrolet Cruze has a 7.0-inch touchscreen housed in the dashboard and runs on Chevrolet's own MyLink infotainment operating system, and it manages to do the work required of it.

It has the basics including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and also comes with 4G LTE and a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, and a 4-speaker sound system. SiriusXM is standard on all Chevy vehicles with a 3-month all-access trial (a subscription will be required later). Few major infotainment features include-

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Blue streaming audio
  • 4-speaker sound system
  • 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot
  • USB port
  • AM/FM radio

Cargo Space

The Chevrolet Cruze Sedan has a trunk space of 14.8 cu. ft, which can easily hold a few duffle bags among others or a couple of suitcases. It has a wide opening with a flat surface, which is good for inserting and removing those heavy bags. The rear seat does fold down to create more space, and in the higher trims, you get a split-folding rear seat.

Exterior
8.5/10

The Chevrolet Cruze is a good looking car. It comes with basic exterior features, including turn signals on the side mirrors, side mirrors having the heated function, and the door handles in the body color.

Chevrolet’s standard selection of wheels designs, the base gets 15-inch steel wheels with and the top of the line gets Aluminium 17-inch wheels. There is also a space wheel located in the trunk of the car.

The Chevrolet Cruze is of similar size as the above cars. The big difference comes in the curb weight, the Chevrolet Cruze weighs 2,835 and is in the middle of the lot. The heaviest is the Ford Focus S, while the lightest is the Honda Civic. Cruze also offers the best ground clearance of the lot.

Safety
9.3/10

The NHTSA has given the Chevrolet Cruze sedan an overall 5-star rating out of a possible 5-stars. The IIHS has given the Chevrolet Cruze sedan a good score in the tests that have been conducted. Along with these decent safety scores, Chevrolet has installed a lot of safety features in the Cruze sedan. Some of them are:

  • 10 airbags system
  • StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System with Traction Control
  • OnStar Guidance Plan2 (standard for the first three months; trial excludes Hands-Free Calling minutes), includes Automatic Crash Response
  • Theft-deterrent system with content-theft alarm and engine immobilizer
  • Power-programmable door locks with lockout protection and rear-door child safety locks
  • Teen Driver technology
  • Rear vision camera
  • Cruise control (not available on L and LS trims)

Competition
6.0/10

Ford Focus Sedan vs Chevrolet Cruze

The fight between the Ford Focus and the Chevrolet Cruze goes right down to the wire. While the Focus scores on the acceleration and braking part, the Cruze seems more practical and spacious from the outset.

The fuel economy of these cars is the same. The trunk size is almost similar too. However, the comfort in the Cruze is much more than that of the Focus, which doesn’t boast of the best seats either. So the Cruze definitely pips the Focus in this regard.

Honda Civic vs Chevrolet Cruze

As bluntly as it may sound, but the Civic is no match to the Cruze. The acceleration, braking, fuel economy, comfort, you name it, and the Cruze wins it hands down.

The only thing going in the favor of the Honda Civic has to be its cheaper price and a slightly bigger cabin. However, these things are too small considering the magnitude of the cars of this segment, making the Cruze a clear winner here.

Final Verdict

The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze is a simple car. It comes with an engine that takes you from A to B without any issues and is enough for your everyday needs. The Interior and cargo is adequate, and for its starting price point of $16,975, it offers a lot in the infotainment department, making it a good offering.
