Overview

The Mitsubishi Lancer has always been every teen boy's dream. The last generation of Mitsubishi Lancer has been in the market for a decade and it has officially ceased production and there is no 2018 for this Lancer. But It still has maintained a loyal base because of its great performance, impeccable handling, and compact size. Mitsubishi gives 2 engine and 2 transmission choices.

There is one 2.0L MIVEC 16-valve engine that pumps out 148 horses and 145-pound feet of torque and a 2.4L MIVEC 16-valve engine that delivers 168 horses and 167-pound feet of torque. Both engines have a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed CVT automatic.

We Recommend

The middle trim that is ES 2.4 is the best trim to buy as it has plenty of features such as All-wheel control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 6.1-inch touch-panel, 6 speed CVT transmission, etc. There are plenty of options available like an all-weather package, interior package, LED illumination package, navigation system package, rear wing spoiler, and the list continues.

Engine and Performance
6.0/10

As we are reviewing the ES trim, it has a 2.0L 16-Valve MIVEC engine that develops 148 horses and 145-pound feet of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed stick shift that is very smooth and gives a good performance.

It starts from $17,795 for manual and $18,795 for CVT transmission. The manual is more engaging to drive and feels more connected to the driver than the CVT which has a kind of dead feel to it.

The Mitsubishi Lancer has a sporty drive. It holds the road well and goes through corners with ease. The steering feels good and gives you confidence at high speeds. The ride is comfortable as it's on the firmer side. The manual transmission is better than CVT as the latter feels sluggish in traffic whereas the manual provides the zip in city traffic. The minor bumps and irregularities of the road cannot be felt into the cabin, however more intense once can be felt inside and the wind and other noises do creep in a little bit into the cabin of the Lancer.

Interior
4.0/10

When sitting inside the cabin, it gives an airy feeling due to its height. It is exciting on the outside, but it is dull on the inside. The all-black interior feels tacky and cheap.

Also, the touch and feel of the plastic is not high quality. Front seats provide a good amount of support, but the rear is not as comfortable as it should be. Rear Headroom is tight and tall passengers might hit their head on the roof.

Mitsubishi Lancer vs Ford Focus S

Talking about Ford Focus S there is no denying the fact that it is one of the best vehicles available in its class. It has got sharp handling and excellent build quality which makes it a rewarding driver car.

Also, it has got some new updates for the year 2017/18 and is cheaper than Mitsubishi Lancer by $1,000.

Mitsubishi Lancer vs Honda Civic

The Honda Civic is the best seller in the segment thanks to its excellent safety, comfort, and reliability statistics. It has a great engine and transmission.

Honda has always set a benchmark in its class and Civic is no different. It will always exceed competitors and has been a favorite for many years. The only thing that might hinder the purchaser is the high price even for the base model.

Mitsubishi Lancer vs Mazda 3 Sport

The Mazda 3 sport is a very well built and equipped car. Even the base model gets a lot of safety and technology. The reliability, inspiring handling combined with super comfortable seats easily make it one of the very best choices in the segment. Price is an additional benefit as it's close to the price of Mitsubishi Lancer.

Final Verdict

The Mitsubishi Lancer has been the same for a decade. Its rivals are technologically advanced. The interior looks old and tacky but if you look performance-wise it is very rewarding and will not disappoint the driver. It might not be as popular as the Civic or Mazda 3 but one should give it one serious look, who knows it might surprise you. Also, Mitsubishi has ceased the production of Lancer, so you have a unique opportunity to have a piece of history.
