The 7 Series is luxurious, spacious, and loaded with gadgets, and now with the M moniker, it is sporty too. The 2018 BMW M 760i Sedan comes powered by a 6.6-liter Twin Turbo V-12, which churns out 601 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. of peak torque.
BMW is well known for its brilliant cars that offer a phenomenal driving experience. They are also popular for their luxury and premium cars, which offer great comfort to their passengers along with powerful engine performance to enjoy it. The 2018 BMW M760i xDrive is the latter kind of vehicle. 2018 saw the 7 series add two new contenders in the game, the plug-in hybrid 740e xDrive iPerformance and the turbocharged V12-powered M760i xDrive, both very capable cars in themselves.
The powerful sedan is only available as a single trim for the consumers to enjoy. The BMW M760i xDrive offers a lot of equipment for the money, all $156,700 of it. There is ample space in the rear that promises an unmatched level of comfort, with multi-zone climate control, and even footrest for the rear passengers. Powering the Sedan is a 6.6-liter V-12 offered with two turbochargers, which churns out 601 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The engine is further mated to an 8-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox. Few major highlights of the sedan are-

There is only one trim and that comes with a cracker of an engine. If a bulky, powerful sports limo with multitude of creature comforts that look and feel premium sounds appealing to you, well then, here's the car for you from the BMW’s lineup.

The 2018 BMW M760i has a really powerful 6.6-liter Twin Turbo V-12 that churns out 601 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The engine gets two turbochargers for increased power, and more importantly, enhancing the efficiency of the engine.
The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox, which is great for swift progress as well as for cruising. The power is then sent to all four wheels via electronic differentials. The all-wheel-drive system helps the car stay balanced on its wheels during cornering despite its heavy build.

The competition to the BMW M760i xDrive consists of Mercedes-Benz AMG S 63, Porsche Panamera Turbo, and Audi S8 Plus, which make 603 hp, 550 hp, and 605 hp respectively. All these cars sport 4-liter Twin-Turbocharged V8s, which has become a really popular choice in recent times with the advent of fuel-efficient engines.
The M760i xDrive is the performance variant of the BMW's 7 Series Sedan. It's quite a fast and agile car, despite the hefty weight. It takes a mere 3.6 seconds to go from 0 to 60 mph, and the quarter-mile takes only 11.7 seconds, all thanks to the huge 6.6-liter powerful engine under the hood.

The competition is faster than the BMW, although not by much. The Audi S8 is the quickest to 60 mph mark at 3.3 seconds. The Mercedes follows right after, being at its heels at 3.4 seconds. The Porsche manages the exact same acceleration time to 60 mph but is the fastest in the quarter-mile run. Even in the quarter-mile, the 2018 BMW takes the last spot but with a minute difference of 0.1 seconds.
BMW has always offered all its cars with great brakes, and the 7 Series is no exception. It gets huge 15.5-inch discs in the front wheels and 14.5-inch discs in the rear. They do a wonderful job of hauling the massive weight of above 5,000 pounds from 60 mph to a standstill. Although the sedan fails to impress as it takes around 157ft to reach a halt from 70mph.
The handling is affected by the weight, obviously, and under hard cornering, the rear passengers are at the risk of losing their lunch in a foul manner. The adaptive suspension does its best to absorb the bumps on the road, as well as minimizing the body roll under cornering. The steering comes with multiple settings, which range from hard to extremely hard

The competition is much, much lighter in comparison, with the Porsche Panamera being the lightest at just under 4,400 pounds. This helps it come to a halt from 60 mph in only 111 feet, by far the shortest in this segment. The other cars post slightly poorer figures than the BMW when braking is concerned.
BMW M760i is fairly thirsty, and that is understandable since it has the most weight and also the biggest engine on offer. Still, it manages to pull decent fuel efficiency figures, managing to run 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg highway, which brings the combined total to 16 mpg. The 20.6 gallons of fuel tank capacity of the sedan feels little in comparison to some of its competitors in the segment.

The 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo is the most efficient in the city at 18 mpg, while the Mercedes is the most efficient on the highway at 26 mpg. The Audi S8 is the least efficient, which is surprising since it is neither the heaviest nor does it possess the largest engine. Porsche with its fuel-efficient engine and generous fuel-tank capacity manages to offer the most in the overall range measuring 498 miles.
The comfort inside the cabin has always been the first priority on the mind of the BMW engineers. The seats, especially the rear seats, are beautifully crafted and adjustable too. It has an exceptionally quiet interior, also a number of options are offered for personalizing the climate for each passenger. The standard seats available with the sedan are comfortable and highly adjustable.
It also has a magic carpet ride, along with the build quality, which is top-notch and refined. The cabin offers incredible interior space, and the doors are designed to make it easy to get in and out of the car. Overall the interior of this expensive sedan from BMW screams of luxury combined with sportiness inside.

Except for the Panamera, all the cars offer oodles of space in the back seats. Panamera is also the only sedan which only brings a seating capacity of four. The sedans of Audi and Mercedes are great contenders in this category with great space all around for the passengers to enjoy a comfortable ride.Â
The 2M760i xDrive offers an impressive array of technology, especially with the connectivity. Although the lack of Android Auto, even as an optional extra, is a bit disappointing. Many standard tech features are standard making it relaxing for the passenger to be constantly entertained inside.
The car also has a granular interior lighting system, which can change the ambiance inside the cabin to better suit your mood. There are numerous other infotainment features that it offers:
The BMW has the best in class cargo space, offering enough space to swallow 2 large bags with still a little space left to spare. This is quite impressive considering how the BMW isn't especially larger than the other cars here. BMW has brought this sedan with a cargo space of 18.2 cu-ft, the best on the table.

The other cars in this comparison offer less space than the BMW, especially the Audi. The S8 has a disappointingly smaller boot, even smaller than the coupe-styled Porsche Panamera. The only sedan capable of giving a slight competition to BMW is Porsche by offering 17.6 cu-ft of cargo storage.
BMW M760i is a huge car, as it is supposed to be. It is a comfortable sedan with huge space in the rear seats to have a comfortable ride. The length is over 200 inches, and the wheelbase is large too, at 126.4 inches.
The ground clearance is just fine, at 5.3 inches, which steers clear of any bumps. The weight is also by far the most in this segment, although BMW's clever engineering makes it hard to notice.

The Panamera is the only car that isn't a long-wheelbase sedan in the comparison. As such, it is the smallest car in here, lacking the rear seat space that others possess. The Audi and the Mercedes are more spacious and still lighter than the BMW.
Neither the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety(IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA) has tested the 2018 BMW M760i, so the results are unknown. Cars of this luxury segment are unlikely to get crash-tested. On the safety aspect, the 2018 BMW M760i xDrive has a plethora of safety features on offer. Some of the standard features are listed below:
Mercedes-Benz is the leader in rear-seat comfort and continues to be so even today. The three-pointed star on the hood is a symbol of luxury, and if making a statement is your forte, then this is the car to buy. The cost also makes it a more approachable alternative. The driving experience isn't as engaging though and the chassis feels more wooden than the BMW as well. If luxury is your focus, Mercedes-AMG S63 takes the cake.
Porsche is a sports car maker, and sadly, the Panamera is not a sports car. It sounds like one, and to some extent even drives like one, but the dimensions and weight disadvantages the car in more areas than one area. The Panamera simply takes a working formula and tries to incorporate new variables into it. The biggest advantage though is the exclusivity, which might be reason enough for some people to purchase this car.
The Audi S8, sadly, feels like an outdated car entirely, even though it is essentially a redesigned car for modern times. It excels in the areas of comfort and luxury, although not to the extent the other sedans in this test manage to be. This is much more disappointing because the S8 was only designed for backseat commuters, and not driving enthusiasts. But overall experience of BMW makes us choose it between the two.
BMW markets its cars with the phrase 'Sheer Driving Pleasure,' which indeed is the case with its cars. The M760i xDrive is a luxurious sedan with a powerful performance on offer. The powerful figures in all the aspects along with a long list of premium features on board, this sedan by BMW comes out as a decent pick in the segment.
