Overall Rating
For all those people who wanted an upgrade over the Corvette Stingray but can't afford the Z06, GM has introduced a refreshed version of its popular coupe, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.
For all those people who wanted an upgrade over the Corvette Stingray but can't afford the Z06, GM has introduced a refreshed version of its popular coupe, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport. Starting at $65,495, the Grand Sport has a 6.2L V8 naturally aspirated motor delivering 460hp and 465lbs-ft of torque. If you are in the market to buy a Corvette, chances are that you might get confused on what variant to buy as GM is offering 3 versions of its refreshed range of corvettes for 2018.
What we have today with us is the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Coupe. Starting at $65,495 for the base 1LT variant, the Grand Sport sits right in the middle of the Corvette range, which includes the hardcore track-focused Z06 and the entry-level Stingray. It tends to offer the performance of the Z06 but with the daily usability of the Stingray. This means that it can cover 0-60mph in under 4 seconds and a top speed of over 190MPH.
We would recommend our readers to go for the 2LT trim as it offers most of the stuff that the 3LT has to offer. The 3LT just adds a Performance Data Recorder and some minute cosmetic changes. We won’t recommend you to spend extra five grand for these unnecessary options which won’t make a worthy difference to the already brilliant coupe.

There are quite a lot of features and creature comforts in the Corvette that will keep you hooked to the Cabin. The best part of the Grand Sport is that it carries forward all the bells and whistles from the Stingray and adds the performance parts from the Z06. There are 3 trims to choose from, namely the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT with the Z51 performance package standard on all the trims.

Trim we would choose
We would recommend our readers to go for the 2LT trim as it offers most of the stuff that the 3LT has to offer. The 3LT just adds a Performance Data Recorder and some minute cosmetic changes. We won’t recommend you to spend extra five grand for these unnecessary options which won’t make a worthy difference to the already brilliant coupe.
Powering the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is a familiar 6.2L Naturally Aspirated V8 motor delivering 460HP and 465lbs-ft of Torque. The Bump in power is due to the Z51 performance package, which comes as standard in the Grand Sport. The ears are treated to a symphony generated from the V8, which comes out of the magnificent quad exhausts.
The transmission duties of the coupe are handled by an 8-Speed Automatic gearbox or a 7 Speed Manual with Active Rev Matching in the Paddle Shifters. The engine responds to even the smallest of throttle inputs and encourages you to pull the engine to the redline just to hear that "orchestra" generated by the V8. All the vehicles on the table bring RWD as standard. Only Jaguar offers its customers a chance to use AWD setup in their powerful machines.

Chevrolet easily outperforms the other coupes on the table in the power and torque department. Even when it comes to straight line acceleration, the 2018 Corvette Grand Sport delivers breathtaking acceleration from its monstrous V8 with the smallest of throttle inputs and reaches 60mph from standstill in just 3.7 seconds, followed by M4’s 4.1 seconds, leaving Jaguar at the bottom measuring 5.4 seconds.
A buyer in this segment doesn't usually bother about MPG figures or gas mileage. But, for those who may want to look into these figures won't be disappointed. Chevrolet has added something called "Active Fuel Management," which switches off 4 of the 8 cylinders when the load is light or when you toggle the Eco Mode. This ensures a gas mileage of up to 25 MPG in some conditions. The light body structure of the coupe lends low body weights to the car, which translates to better overall fuel efficiency.

The Jaguar F-Type is the most fuel-efficient here, delivering 20mpg in the city, 28 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 24mpg, followed by the BMW with 17 in the city, 25 on the highway, and 19 combined. The Chevy comes in last with 16mpg in the city, 25 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 19mpg.
The 2018 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport coupe has a driver-focused interior layout. There is a flowing design on the center console with a whole host of buttons present on the infotainment system. The build quality and fit and finish may not be the best in the segment and needs improvements but is certainly not understated in any way.Â
The materials used are of premium quality, including the leather and the stitching of the comfortable seats. Some people may, however, complain about the use of plastics in a lot of places, but that has been done to save costs, and is evident. The seats themselves offer great comfort levels and have adequate bolstering on them to withstand any kind of speed.

The interior space in the cabin of all three has marginal differences only. The Grand Sport offers good cargo space of 10.0 cu-ft for a sports car, which is enough to carry luggage sufficient for a weekend ride or doing daily errands around the city, while both the BMW and the Jaguar have 11 cu-ft. There is a decent number of bottle holders, storage bins, and spaces in the cabin as well, which will be nifty when keeping things like phones, cups, or other small things.Â
Chevrolet has stacked the infotainment system of the Corvette with all the features, which a modern-day tech-savvy user desires. The infotainment unit consists of an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system and Driver Information Display Screen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto integration, and Bluetooth Connectivity.
There is also a premium 10 Speaker Bose Audio System, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi connectivity, and a high-resolution rearview camera for the overall necessities of the passengers inside. Other major features include-
At just 3,428lbs, the Corvette Grand Sport is one of the lightest vehicles in its class, owing to the generous use of aluminum and carbon fiber parts in the chassis and the body of the car. Also, this car is wider than the Stingray. The car has been designed keeping in mind aerodynamic efficiency, which is done by effective channeling of air.
There are cooling ducts in various parts of the car's body for cooling the engine, brakes, and diffusers at the rear.

The Corvette is not the biggest or widest in the segment, but still is among the meanest. BMW M4 has the longest wheelbase of 110.7 inches, followed by the Grand Sport Coupe’s 106.7 inches, and then comes the Jaguar with its wheelbase of 103.2 inches. When compared in curb weight, Chevy beats others with a minute difference of around 100+ lbs.
Exterior Features
The Grand Sport Coupe’s chassis has been made using a copious amount of Aluminum and some Carbon Fiber Materials, which helps in reducing crash impacts and provide occupant protection and safety. The Corvette Grand Sport has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS, but there is a comprehensive set of safety features embedded into this car, including driver and passenger airbags with an industry-first front center side-impact airbag, 4 Wheel ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control. Some of the other features include-
A relatively new entrant to the competition, the BMW M4 has been quite some headlines from the time it had been launched because of the great handling character that it possessed. It is also priced cheaper than the Corvette and is very built both inside and outside. However, the Corvette just blows away the bimmer in sheer specs and the kind of performance it offers.
Throw it around a corner on a race track and the Race focused character of the Corvette will beat the Bimmer every time. Also, the Corvette Grand Sport offers a bit more comfortable ride than the BMW which has been a bit stiffly sprung.
The Jaguar F-Type has been a popular choice among Motoring enthusiasts who wanted the Best that Britain could offer in an affordable price range. The Jaguar does tick many of those boxes as well and is priced very similarly to the Corvette hence the comparison. But when we dive deep into the comparison both theoretically and practically, other than the Build, Sound, and the looks (which may be subjective), the Jaguar struggles to keep up with the Corvette. The driving dynamics and the performance of the Corvette will ensure great Race Track performance.
Also, on a daily basis, the Corvette will be easier to live with because of the less Harsh suspension setup, Better Gas Mileage, and cheaper and easily available spares.
As we said in the starting of this Review, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport coupe had been introduced by GM to provide the best of both worlds to the consumer. It has the Engine from the Stingray which is less “Hooligan” than the one found on the Z06 and the suspension and Tires have been carried from the Z06 which makes it an absolute track beast. The “Lower” specification engine also ensures better MPG figures and overall a better Car to live with due to the less “Frantic” nature of the Motor and the ability to stay relaxed if you want it to. The Corvette Grand Sport also carries with itself the “Grand Sport” badge which is a great Racing Heritage for over 65 years now. So, if you want a Sports Coupe that has the ability to behave like a Normal Car most of the time having the ability of going absolutely “Bonkers” when you want it to, the Corvette Grand Sport is a Car that deserves your attention.
