From all the variety of options given by Land Rover, choosing the Velar S trim is recommended. It features basic premium options of a Luxury SUV and you get to choose from the three engine options available with the Velar. Also, if you want some features from the SE or HSE variant, there are optional packages for upgrading your vehicle.
The 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is powered by three engine options. A 2.0 L Inline four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 180 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. A more powerful 2.0 turbocharged I-4 engine churning out 247 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque is also available. The 2.0 L engine feels low on power compared to Velar's size and weight.
A more peppy engine available with the Velar is a 3.0 L V6 capable of producing 380 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. This engine option feels good to drive and is capable of tackling all terrains. All the trims get an 8-speed automatic transmission transmitting power to all four wheels.

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar is the most expensive model in the segment but when it comes to engine power, it doesn’t feel too powerful in comparison to its rivals. Both the Audi Q5 and Porsche Macan seem to offer the most powerful engine in this segment of luxury SUVs. The Volvo XC60 has an adequate engine in comparison to the Velar.
The Range Rover Velar with the V6 accelerates effortlessly. With the massive 332 lb-ft of torque, Land Rover claims Velar to do 0-60 MPH in 5.6 seconds. Whereas, the smaller 2.0 L engines aren't quick enough. Unfortunately, the acceleration figures fail to impress. It lags behind the competition having the same V6 because of its weight. Also, rivals have better and powerful engine options.
The Range Rover Velar drives accurately and handles precisely. The air suspension though has added weight to the Velar but helps it to maintain stability by keeping a check on body roll. Also, it helps to lower or raise the car for better handling and steering on diverse terrains. Features like All terrain progress control, Active rear locking differential, and low traction launch are some features that enhance handling and steering in unfavorable conditions.
