As you go up the trim ladder, the RAM 1500 just keeps getting nicer and pricier. Higher trims such as the Longhorn and the Limited offer compromised towing capacities, but offer splendid luxury features. The cabin just keeps getting fancier as you go up, while the exterior gets premium upgrades to stand out from lower trims. Infotainment also gradually improves Laramie onwards, and the 1500 ends up offering a lot of technology and creature comforts by the time you reach the Limited trim.
2018 RAM 1500 Crew Cab Buying Advice
With so many trims to choose from, picking the correct one can get confusing. We would suggest going for the Laramie trim, as it offers the most value for money. The Laramie comes with a sufficiently plush cabin, while also offering plenty of active safety assists. Hauling capacity doesn’t take much of a bad hit either, offering a balance between luxury, technology, and capability.
The standard RAM 1500 comes with a 3.6L V6, capable of churning out an impressive 305 horsepower and a decent 269 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic, which isn’t exactly sporty but manages to shuffle power just fine. The engine feels potent and can comfortably haul stuff without an issue.
The transmission, however, is a little tardy and can have a tricky time deciding what gear to put you in. The 2018 RAM 1500 is offered with a rear-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive layout, and the performance numbers change a bit accordingly.

Priced the lowest, the 2018 RAM 1500 comes with the most horsepower. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 offers the most torque out of its 4.3L V6, while the RAM 1500 manages to deliver a little more torque than the Ford F-150 manages to put down. The RAM also comes with an 8-speed gearbox, which isn’t necessarily better than the Ford F-150's 6-speed.
Being a bulky, gnarly, pickup truck, the 2018 RAM 1500 manages a pretty decent 0 to 60 launch time of 7.6 seconds. The truck also manages to cross the quarter-mile mark in 15.6 seconds, which is nothing sportscar-like, but still an impressive figure, given its weight and bulk. The truck however weighs a staggering 5760 pounds. Despite its bulk, the truck can come to a complete halt from 60 miles an hour in just 123 feet. The RAM 1500 also boasts a towing capacity of 10,200 pounds.

The 2018 Ford F-150 shows the most promise in terms of performance. The F-150 manages an impressive 6.1-second 0 to 60 launch, while also putting down the fastest quarter-mile time of 14.7 seconds. The RAM 1500 measures the heaviest, while the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 stands the lightest, by a 900-pound margin compared to the RAM. The Ford F-150 is the best at stopping quickly, while the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes with the highest stopping distance. The Silverado 1500, however, boasts the highest towing capacity among the competition, while the RAM 1500 offers the least.
The RAM 1500 being a heavy-hauling truck, doesn’t come with the best fuel economy. The mileage figures, however, aren’t all that bad. While the all-wheel-drive variants come with crippling fuel economy, the rear-wheel-drive RAM 1500 with the 3.6L V6 manages to return 17 miles to the gallon in the city, and a decent 25 miles per gallon on highways. The result is a combined MPG figure of 20, which is respectable for a pickup truck. The 2018 RAM 1500 also comes fitted with a heart 32-gallon fuel tank, which lets the truck traverse up to 672 miles on the highway without refueling.

While the RAM 1500 has the least city MPG to offer, the Ford F-150 offers the best city MPG figure of 20. The Silverado isn’t much better either, in that respect. The RAM and the Ford offer equally good highway mileage figures, while the Chevrolet has to settle at 24. The F-150 offers the best fuel economy overall, with a combined MPG figure of 22. The RAM 1500, however, comes with the largest fuel tank, which enables it to boast the highest range among its competitors.
The 2018 RAM 1500 comes with a vast array of comfort features that supplement your daily heavy-hauling grinds and make it easy for you to live with it on a daily basis. The interior itself is comfortable and plush and offers good seating positions and forward visibility. The overall design is very ergonomic and utilitarian.
The RAM 1500 features comfortable seats that come with 10-way and 6-way power adjustment, and offer heating and cooling options. The steering wheel comes clad in leather, and sports heating facilities for chilly days. The center console is quite busy with buttons, and while they’re chunky and utilitarian, they’re all over the place and can get rather distracting. The RAM truck comes with high-quality materials and good finishes in higher trims and offers plenty of luxury options if you’re willing to spend a few extra dollars. The interior certainly doesn’t disappoint.Â

Overall, the RAM 1500 boasts a cargo volume of 50.3 cubic feet, which is more than sufficient to meet all your daily requirements. The ride quality is fantastic and the handling just complements it further. Its trims are priced lower than its competitors, which acts in its favor. While hauling and towing capabilities are a bit on the soft side, the RAM 1500 aims to offer you a comfortable driving experience while still being able to haul all your daily cargo conveniently. The interior is comfortable yet utilitarian, and the infotainment certainly doesn’t disappoint. All in all, if you’re looking for a practical truck without overkill hauling figures that are as comfortable as a luxury sedan, there is no other truck better than the 2018 RAM 1500.
