Overall Rating
Ferrari is not just any word in the automotive industry, it is an emotion for some, a dream for many, and what a true sports car should be.
Ferrari is not just any word in the automotive industry, it is an emotion for some, a dream for many, and what a true sports car should be. That is how prosperous and successful Ferrari has been in the automotive industry for all these years. The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB has been launched one last year before it will be replaced by another Ferrari. The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB costs $256,550 and does not have any major changes compared to the 2018 model year. This means that you are getting a very lively and powerful 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain in this rear mid-engined Ferrari mated to a quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels.
Since there is only one trim we don’t have much to recommend here except to opt for the electrically adjustable and heated seats which are available as an option.

Technically the Ferraris never come in different trims instead you get one Ferrari with lots of optional and customization features on offer to make your Ferrari stand apart from the other. That said, the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB starts at $256,550 and comes standard with a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB comes equipped with a 3.9L twin-turbocharged premium unleaded V8 engine just as with the previous model years. This engine is one of the best twin-turbocharged engines to be ever produced in the automotive industry. The 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 engine produces 661 hp and has 561 lb-ft of torque and all this is channeled to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
With that massive 3.9L twin-turbocharged premium unleaded V8 engine under the hood and Ferrari's clever engineering, the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB does the 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and takes around 10.6 seconds for the quarter-mile. As for the rivals the Porsche 911 Turbo S is the quickest doing 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds followed by McLaren 570 GT that does 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds. The Lamborghini Huracan is the slowest with 0-60 mph coming in 3.2 seconds.
Ferrari has always been known for making some of the most dynamic sports cars in the automotive industry. The focus has always been on increasing the downforce of the 488 GTB which helps in the driving dynamics and handling of the car. Also, with Ferrari's advanced Slide Slip Control on board the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB, this is a Ferrari that is very approachable and easier to drive than its predecessors.

With the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB, it is now much easier to predict the oversteer but still, the Ferrari Slide Slip Control makes sure that you do not lose it in the corners. The ECU on the Ferrari 488 GTB has also been revamped for faster responses in steering feel and feedback. The result of all this engineering marvel is that the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB is one of few sports cars that stay very glued to the road no matter how hard you drive it.
Among its rivals, the Ferrari 488 GTB with its twin-turbo V8 manages the highest 661 hp and 561 lb-ft of torque. Next comes the Porsche 911 Turbo S whose twin-turbo flat-6 puts out 580 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque followed by the McLaren 570 GT whose twin-turbo V8 generates 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The Huracan has the only naturally aspirated V10 here and puts out 571 hp and 398 lb-ft of peak torque.
Those who get the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB would not mind the fuel efficiency figures of the car but they will be aware of the range of it on a full tank until they stop for a refill. Thanks to the twin-turbo V8, the Ferrari 488 GTB really benefits from a better fuel economy than most of its rivals except the Porsche. The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB is good for 15 mpg in the city followed by 22 mpg on the highway and has a combined mpg rating of 18. The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB with its 20.6 gallons fuel tank capacity can get you 371 miles of combined range.

All these sports cars are made with pure performance and ride experience as their utmost priority. That being said, the 911 Turbo S has the best fuel economy figures of 19/24/21 mpg in city/highway/combined respectively. Next in line is Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 570 GT with similar 15/22/18 mpg of fuel economy figures. With the big and thirsty V10, the Huracan manages 13/18/15 mpg of fuel economy.
The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB's interior is wide enough and the dashboard looks cleaner and more sculpted than on a usual Ferrari. The interiors are definitely focused a lot on better ergonomics and towards the driver than comfort. There are some great artworks on the leather stitched seats, the center console, and the dashboard. That said, the Ferrari 488 GTB is still very comfortable for 2 passengers at the front even for long distances. The headroom and legroom are decent in the front seats and that’s the best you can get in a sports coupe.
Apart from all this you also get leather and Alcantara upholstery on the interiors of the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB which suits this sports car. Though not being the most comfortable sports car in the segment, the Ferrari 488 GTB is still comfortable to ride but undoubtedly the focus here is more on performance and driving dynamics. That said, the rearward visibility is not that great and the ingress and egress are best suited for athletic and light build folks.

All these are sports cars but still, space and comfort are really exceptional for two passengers at the front. The Lamborghini Huracan is a little bit more aggressive on the inside and does not feel as luxurious and comforting when compared to the Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche here. That said, the 488 GTB also has a decent cargo-carrying capacity at 8.1 cubic feet whereas the McLaren has the best cargo-carrying capacity at 13.1 cubic feet.Â
There is no proper infotainment system on the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB. Still, sticking to the modern era, we have two screens behind the steering wheel which is split by the signature Ferrari analog tachometer. It comes with Apple CarPlay integration as an option but Android Auto is still not available. Standard six-speaker can not match that harmonious exhaust note from the V8 engine.
Highlights of the interior features include:
Ferrari has always made some really great-looking cars in the automotive industry. This has been the norm with all their models that were produced. The 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB is a work of art sculptured to perfection with lots of curvy lines and attractive design elements. And a point to note is that all these lines and design elements on the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB serve a purpose.
These help a lot on the aerodynamics gains for the 488 GTB which in turn helps it go much quicker than a similarly specced sports car. In fact, the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB has 50 percent more downforce than its predecessor the Ferrari 458 which explains the aerodynamic efficiency that Ferrari has achieved with the 488 GTB.

Dimensionally all the sports coupe are almost similar except for the Lamborghini Huracan which is comparatively smaller in length. While the Porsche 911 Turbo S gets the smallest wheelbase of 96.5-inches and the McLaren 570 GT has the longest wheelbase of 105.1-inches. Next comes 488 GTB with 104.3-inches of wheelbase followed by Huracan with 103.1-inches of wheelbase. That said, the McLaren 570 GT is the heaviest among all with 3,976 pounds of curb weight.
Some of the notable exterior features of the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB are as follows:
Getting one 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB and crash testing it to evaluate its level of safety does sound very crazy given its price. Also, the Ferrari 488 GTB will not be found in very large numbers on the roads so it is very obvious for the NHTSA to not consider it for a full-fledged crash test. We also expect and pretty much sure that the 488 GTB will also not be evaluated in the future. Still, Ferrari has given some nifty safety features to keep you safe. Features like airbags, ABS, traction control, rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, etc have been thrown in to make it a safe ride.
Some of the noteworthy safety features in the Ferrari 488 GTB include:
The Ferrari 488 GTB's toughest and legendary rival is undoubtedly the Lamborghini Huracan. Everyone in the automotive industry knows about the intense rivalry between Ferrari and Lamborghini.
That said, the Huracan is one of the biggest successes for Lamborghini in a very long time. Everything from the exterior design to the interiors to the performance of the Huracan is extreme and aggressive. Still, we feel that the Ferrari 488 GTB is the better option for someone who prefers a fast car that is a bit more comfortable and offers decent fuel economy without compromising on performance.
In the real world, the McLaren 570 GT is a whole lot better choice than the Ferrari 488 GTB. In 0-60 mph run the McLaren 570 GT is only one-tenth of a second slower than the Ferrari but at the same time, it is $50,000 cheaper than the latter.
That said, the McLaren has a similar fuel economy as the Ferrari but offers better cargo capacity. These are reasons enough for considering the McLaren 570 GT over the Ferrari 488 GTB.
The ultimate surprise in almost every performance segment in the automotive industry is a Porsche. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is such a wonderful all-around sports car that simply does better in almost everything you ask from a sports car. And choosing one between these two well-packaged sports cars is a very tough decision.
The 911 Turbo S is such a wonderful sports car with a perfect balance between performance, driving dynamics, and comfort with a cheaper price tag than the Ferrari. Still, the Ferrari 488 GTB has an advantage over those who are looking for the bragging rights of having a Ferrari.
The 2019 Ferrari GTB is such a well-rounded sports car and one of the best Ferraris ever made. It is so sad that such a wonderful sports car will be replaced next year. The one thing that makes the 488 GTB stand apart from the rest of the rivals in the segment is the heart of the car. The 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 engine on the 2019 Ferrari 488 GTB is the best engine to be ever made in the automotive industry. And that pretty much is a great reason to buy the Ferrari 488 GTB over any other sports car in the segment.
