Mercedes launched the 2019 Metris Cargo Van to add something exotic to the minivan market. There are two trim levels, the Worker van and the Cargo van. The Worker van is a pure barebones at heart and the normal version adds more safety and driver assist features making it more livable. However, if you are not the type of guy who spends $4000 for features then you are better off with the Worker cargo van, which gets the job done. The Worker cargo does not have the feature of extended length or height while the other normal Cargo variant has two wheelbase options one at 126 inches and the extended wheelbase of 135 inches.

Mercedes brags a class leading power with its Turbocharged 2.0L Inline-4 engine mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes broke all rationality with its 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque while the other minivans will not dare to cross the 200-horsepower mark. The Metris remains silent on the road despite the higher power output. Some minivans perform well in the city, but the lack of power weakens its cruising capability, the Metris however doesn't face such a problem.

Metris is the king of the minivan realm. There is no arguing the statement that It's the most powerful minivan. The Ram Promaster tries to catch up with the Metris but hits a dead end at 178 horsepower. The Chevrolet City Express and Nissan NV 200 are at the bottom of the raw power chart as they have maximum 131 horsepower.
The Mercedes Metris's punchy engine can deliver a more energetic ride when compared to other minivans. The turbocharged engine shows its magic while the linear power delivery brings out the best of the 208 horsepower. From a standstill the Metris can zoom to 60 mph in 7.9 second which is more than enough for a minivan.

The Metris has an edge over other minivans in the segment due to the Turbocharged 2.0L Inline-4. While the Ford Transit Connect and Nissan NV200 takes a slow 10 seconds to zip to 60 mph, the Metris does the same in 7.9 seconds. For a minivan of this weight and stature this is very impressive.
You will not get the agile handling experience obviously because it is a minivan, so don't set your hopes high. Nevertheless, the Metris is probably the most fun to drive minivan in the current market. Raw power plays in favor of the Metris and good response contributes to the handling as well. It feels stable and predictable and will not feel taxing at all. The engine remains silent and the gear shift is smooth; however, crosswinds may slap the Metris to divert its path, that's something all minivans face in the market.
Metris was made to tolerate hard traffic and maintain an effortless braking. The brake pedal is easy to modulate and shares a sense of predictability. The front brakes are rated at 11.8 inches and the rear at 11 inches. However, the higher curb weight can affect hard braking and impact the panic brake test. Speaking of which the Metris cargo minivan can stop from the speed of 60 mpg in 119 feet.

The Mercedes comes with the smallest rotors in class but these are super efficient sets of brakes in terms of performance. They ably bring the extreme weight of the Metris Cargo Van to a standstill in 119 feet from a speed of 60 mph.
The Mercedes Benz Metris is efficient too being a commercial vehicle. The Metris fulfills the segment demands but does not touch the peak of its efficiency. In the city the Metris delivers 21 mpg and on the highway, it can be pushed to 24 mpg. Together the combined mileage is fixed at 22 mpg. You might not be pleased with the ergonomic numbers as most competitors are delivering much more.

The only place where Metris displays a below-average performance is the fuel economy. Other minivans in the lot propel up to 24 mpg mileage in city and 28 on the highway which is more when compared to Metris. Vans like Ford Transit Connect, Nissan NV200, and Chevrolet City Express revolve around the same number, while the Ram Promaster joins the Metris on this one.
The 2019 Mercedes Metris is a well-built minivan, and this fact is unquestionably supported by its interiors. Getting inside the Metris is not an issue even though it will require you to get a step up. Speaking of the wheel, it does not feel coming from the Mercedes garage.
It feels interior and add to grab. The other qualities of the interior are decent and better than that of other minivans. Being a cargo van, the lack of visibility can create a bit of a scuffle in cross view.

You will find a lot of shoulder and elbow room for the people sitting in the front row of the Metris. The headroom is measured at 39.6 inches and the legroom at 35.8 inches, which is pretty good for a minivan, even though it is a little less than the industry standards. Other brands might not give you any interior options, but this Merc features an option for Black Leather interior.
The Metris offers a small navigation screen of 5.8 inches as it strictly means business. The system is responsive and is not distracting. Other features are basic like AM/FM radio, a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, a five-speaker audio system and more.
The navigation system is a part of the Multi-Function wheel package. The other offered features are:Â
A class leading cargo volume of 183 cubic feet is what you get when you aggravate Mercedes to make a minivan. The wheelbase can be extended for more cargo volume. The payload capacity for the Metris is 2502 pounds. You have two tailgate options to access the full cargo bay, one is the 270-degree doors and an option for the liftgate rear door.

Metris's enormous cargo floor is unmatched to any other minivan in the market, Ford might have earned a good name in crafting reliable machines but it lacks cargo space. The Ram Promaster is the second most utilitarian van in the lot but it's nowhere near the Metris in terms of cargo space.
The Mercedes brought something new to the table when they entered the minivan market in 2015. The look was better than the other minivans and ahead of its time. However, it was not up to the Mercedes standards.
Regarding the design, Metris has given other brands something to look forward to. Some vans like the Nissan NV just mean business and are offered in just two-color options, while Mercedes gives one a lot of paint options like Cavansite Blue, Jupiter Red and more.

Dimensions of the Metris are fairly different from the rest of the class. It's longer, taller and wider. Just the sheer weight of the Metris is 500 pounds more than the heaviest minivan in the market. The Metris is the lengthiest minivan with 202.4 inches of length and 75 inches of total width. The ground clearance is the lowest at 4.4 inches. Even the regular wheelbase of 126 inches is more than the rest of the minivan. The exterior features of the same are given below:
The 2019 Mercedes Benz Metris is yet to undergo any third-party crash testing. The base Worker cargo may not have a rich safety feature list, but the full-fledged Metris Cargo guarantees safety with its rich safety feature list. The standard feature list adds a lot of safety features like-
Ford outdoes other brands when it comes to commercial vehicles. Their quality and reliability are what brings in the customers. To pit the market favorite against the Luxury brand of Mercedes Benz will surely be a dog fight.
Though the Metris is better in every way, it is bigger, offers more utility, is backed with more power, and features better ride quality. The Transit connect surely gives a good fight but it won't last long in front of the Metris.
Nissan NV200 is what you would call a mediocre minivan. It fails to match the deliverables Mercedes has got for you even though its pricing closely resembles the Metris.
The bigger cargo bay and improved interior quality is a big reason why minivan buyers are opting in for the Metris. The only place where NV200 outruns the Metris by a small margin is the fuel economy but you can live with that. A minivan shopper would go in for the Metris any day over the Transit.
Ram Promaster city is probably the only minivan which can challenge the Metris head on. Ram tries to match Mercedes in every bit, but does so only up to a certain level, though it hardly succeeds in any area. Metris has dominated every other minivan in terms of power and practicality. With the base Metris just a little over $1000 from the Promaster, it makes up for a better option.
The Mercedes Benz Metris brings in a new touch to this boring boxy segment. Its build is rather odd, it's bigger than any other minivan in the class. This gives it a bigger cargo bay. The seats are comfortable, and the interior feels upmarket. From the outside, it is probably the best-looking minivan design in the market. The 270-degree rear doors make it easier to load and unload the Metris. In terms of power, the Metris is certainly the most powerful minivan in town.
