Audi’s distinctive yet timeless styling has been put to test, to see if they can come up with something better, and Oh Boy! They surely have. With the four big overlapped rings and a big aggressive grille in the front.
Audi’s distinctive yet timeless styling has been put to test, to see if they can come up with something better, and Oh Boy! They surely have. With those four big overlapped rings and a big aggressive grille in the front, the Audi A5 is certainly the most aesthetic and versatile coupe in its price range. To put things in perspective, a fully loaded A5 with all the extravaganza costs less than 57grand while the comparably equipped price of Mercedes C Class Coupe would easily cost you north of 60grand.
After adding a few more spices and special ingredients to the 2019 model, Audi has come up with the new hot, fresh from the oven, 2020 Audi A5. It also comes with the same delightful base under its hood as its yesteryear. Who wouldn't love a pizza...err, I mean an Audi, right? Read our in-depth expert review to find out what makes the A5 a delight!
For a price of $52,600, the Prestige trim is a worthy contender, as it packs all the upscale features in addition to the sporty performance upgrades and also features like sport-tuned adaptive suspension and an upgraded rear differential for a reasonable price. However, Premium Plus trim opens doors to some handy features like the MMI digital display, charging pad and some safety features too like a blind-spot monitoring system, etc. The premium plus hits the sweet spot with balanced cost, features, performance and thus is our pick of the lot.

Just as its more subdued sibling, A4, the A5 it totally packed to the brim with the segment-leading features. It’s practical, lots of space on the inside has a massive boot at the back and goes like a sports car. It comes with all the creature comforts that are to be expected from a car of this caliber. At a price of $42,900, the Audi A5 seems like a total bargain.

Under the sporty hood, it resides a 2.0L i4 Intercooled Turbo Premium Unleaded engine which produces enough ponies for you to have the time of your life. To be more precise 248hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. It may not pack the initial zeel to impress you like its elder brother, the S5, because it is a completely different animal when let loose. The power has substantially been bumped up from last year and it helps in increased top speed.
The potent Inline-4 motor under the hood of the Audi A5 is mated to a 7-speed Automatic S Tronic Dual-Clutch which pulls the car quickly and it won’t flicker while overtaking on highways.

Mercedes AMG C300 overpowers its competitors with the most amount of punch available under the hood, with the Audi A5 not that far behind either with 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The Merc’s 9G-TRONIC 9-Speed Automatic gearbox too seems to be more responsive and delivers quicker shifts when compared to Audi. Ironically, Lexus RC 300 might have the biggest engine under the hood but fails to packs the same amount of ponies that the others are offering, which is a big letdown on Lexus’s part.
With more than 20% more power on tap and about 100 pounds of weight savings, the 2020 Audi A5 is a serious contender and is definitely quicker than the outgoing model. It accelerates from 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, all the while crossing the quarter-mile mark in a decent 14.7 seconds. If we may dare to say so, it can be sportier at times.
The Quattro AWD systems prove to be the most efficient and better calibrated than other systems and this is reflected in the way the Audi A5 lunges ahead.

Mercedes Benz C300’s the first to reach 60 mph in a quoted time of 5.5 seconds, while the Audi finishes second with a time of 5.7 seconds on the clock. Again the Lexus is a big letdown in this case as it lags behind the others by a huge margin taking more than 7 seconds in the process.
The Audi A5 has a dual personality out on the road. It is composed and calm on soothing roads, whereas it packs a whole different character on twisty trenches. With well-weighted steering and great suspension, it literally comes alive in corners. Although the suspension is beefed up to minimize body roll, the roughness of the ride is sometimes felt on some of the rough patches on the street. That being said, putting the chassis in comfort mode helps the cause to some degree.
The optional dynamic steering mimics the intuitive steering usually found in high-end supercars, which varies the gear ratio based on your speed and steering angle. It has been specifically designed to give the driver optimum feedback and can be adjusted based on the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. Coming to the Quattro system starts to fall apart in swooping corners and it introduces understeer which ruins the experience and restricts to put down power.
Brakes received a generous upgrade as well in order to handle all that excessive speed and power. It has 13.3-inch diameter front brakes in the front and 13-inches in the back to ensure quick braking. Brakes are big and strong and give plenty of feedback and shrug speed in a jiffy. Unfortunately, the A5’s braking prowess could not be put to the test, although to put things into perspective, the Lexus with much smaller rotor discs comes to standstill in about 120 ft, which is in all seriousness pretty commendable on Lexus’s part. Based on this, we have no doubt that the A5 would have similar results too if not better.

The heavier Audi A5 Coupe gets bigger rotor brakes discs of 13.3-inches up front and 13-inch rotors in the back. Meanwhile, the Merc C300, the sportiest of the bunch, gets decently sized brakes, whereas Lexus being the heaviest of the bunch comes to a stop much earlier than the rest of the competition at 120 ft.
The Audi A5 returns good EPA numbers with a combined MPG of 27. The real-world performance might differ. The precise 7-Speed Automatic S Tronic Dual-Clutch is responsible for providing us with these numbers. It could have done better if not for its curb weight, which is more on the heftier side. Audi has equipped the A5 with a large 15.3-gallon fuel tank which helps it provide the best range of the lot. Overall, considering the amount of firepower it packs, the EPA figures it gives is a pretty good number.

Most coupes and coupes maintain 23 miles to the gallon combined mileage. Although the A5 is a different breed in this respect, as it gives a mileage of 27 MPG. The Lexus lags in this department with 21 mpg combined, solely because of it much bigger engine. The Bimmer and the Mercedes C300 Coupe are on par with each other in terms of fuel efficiency.
Audi cars are the epitome of luxury and premium-ness. A5 follows the trend as well. Just like the exterior, the same limited amount of changes can be seen in the interior as well. The interiors on the A5 are covered in rich materials. Plastics are soft to touch and every panel feels solidly put together. A lot of attention to detail has been given design and the quality of materials used. The biggest surprise from the facelift comes to us in the form of the featuress and gadgets offered, with the old ones being improved vastly, and also bringing in new ones.
As it is basically a souped-up A4, it’s high on seating comfort and practicality. Seats are super supportive and comfy and are equipped with massage features as well that support you well enough on long journeys. It also comes with a manual thigh extension that should satisfy the long-legged, and give you ample support to stretch along and relax after a long day.

All of the said coupes can carry up to 4 passengers at a time and are quite similarly sized and as well. That being said, the BMW 430i xDrive on paper has the most amount of front headroom among its competitors. In the rear, the headroom seems to be ample on paper in the Audi but the way the roof is designed, the shoulder room gets affected and is only good for two passengers at a time and this is where the BMW and the Mercedes shine the brightest.
Audi A5 gets a 7-inch central infotainment display that comes standard with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. It moreover comes filled to the brim with high-end technologies and features at a nominal price. The display is crisp and the visibility is great too. The system is responsive to inputs and displays all the vital information which is easy to read as well. Along with the central screen, A5 comes equipped with Audi’s Virtual cockpit which is super configurable and makes drivers’ life easier. Moreover, for all the audiophiles out there, the A5 has got your back as well, with a 10-speaker system, upgraded to a 12-speaker Bang and Olufsen surround system which makes it feel like a concert within your car.
The boot in the back of the Audi A5 is quite generous from coupe standards. It’s big enough and can carry your weekend worth of luggage with ease and then some more. The same cannot be said for the smaller storage bins and cubby holes inside, as they don’t follow the same convention. On folding down the rear seats, you get a much bigger space for your belongings which uplifts the practicality even further.

Audi A5 has a cavernous boot and not just on paper but it’s designed in such a way that the loading is easier and it’s opening is square-ish as well. The Audi A5 demonstrates its family utility character in terms of cargo space as well. The ride offers a cargo capacity of 11.6 cu.ft, which is simply commendable on Audi’s part. The Merc makes the chase with 10.5 cu.ft, followed up closely by the Lexus RC 300.
The new Audi A5 is the ultimate compact luxury coupe, which forms the basis for it older yet hotter sibling S5. Don’t mistake the 2020 Audi A5 with the outgoing A5. Although the silhouette is identical, the edges are sharper, and the design is based on the A7, which we love and adore. They have gone with the original seductive look, and not brought about any changes to the design as such. The honeycomb front grille looks aggressive and the front end gets a reworked bumper with big air intakes to feed in more air to the air intake and the radiators, The coupe’s roofline reminds us of the sleek hatchback profile. The new Led headlights, wider and flatter Singleframe grille are meant to enhance the look of the car.

Mercedes C300 feels light on its feet and that’s down to its lower curb weight. Coupled with that, the C300 is packing the longest wheelbase which translates to a roomier cabin. The Lexus RC 300 tips the scale at almost 3900lbs and is heavier than the rest. This excess weight helps the car to remain stable at high speeds. However, you might need to be extra careful on speed bumps, given the tiny 3.5-inch ground clearance in the Mercedes coupe.
Some of the prominent exterior features of the Audi A5 are:
The brand with the four rings offers a comprehensive package of active and passive safety features in the compact class too. The 2020 Audi A5 has not been crash-tested by the NHTSA. Nevertheless, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it a top safety pick award. The sports saloon comes standard with a host of safety features which makes the A5 a safe and secure car. Some of the features are given below-
Mercedes C300 is one such car that provides a fine balance between comfortness and performance, also it provides the best value for money proposition in terms of the feature list. The Audi, on the other hand, gives us a comfortable ride that goes uninterrupted over uneven surfaces. The interior is equally plush and technology-rich in both of these coupes, wth the Audi having a slightly upper edge. Although the C300’s 2.0L inline 4 makes the most amount of power in the segment and feels refined as well, all the while outright wins against the Audi A5
Unlike the Bimmer, the Audi doesn’t get your adrenaline rushing as much. The A5 prevails here with a much more city focussed ride and comfort. Even the updated tech in the interior makes the A5 a more attractive package than the 430i. On the inside, the A5 feels upmarket and expensive. When on the move, the Audi A5 covers the ground with confidence and has a sporty edge to it which makes it quite a fun car to drive and throw around the corners.
Audi A5 is an all-round package. It’s got a powerful engine under the hood powering all the wheels which make the performance all the more usable. The interior is comfortable and well equipped for longer rides. It is easy to live with, can be used for everyday shopping errands and feels at home out on a racetrack or a curvy canyon road. We would have loved for a more comfortable second-row seating but nothing can be 100 percent perfect and the Audi A5 is the closest one to it.
