Which 2020 Cadillac CT5 trim should you go for?
The Premium Luxury trim is the sensible choice of the lot. It will get you an ample amount of comfort to cocoon the occupants in its host of features and commendable performance to back it up, thus adding to its bang for buck value.
The CT5 is powered by a 2.0L Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that utilizes a twin-scroll setup. It has the added benefit of sucking in more air into the engine with virtually no extra fuel consumption and thus translating to better performance. 237 horses and 258 pound-feet of torque is transferred to the rear wheels via a 10-speed Automatic transmission which helps in seamlessly propulsion of the car.
This setup helps the car to have a composed and smooth personality with due importance given to the blend of performance and handling.

It is clearly evident that the competition undercuts the Cadillac in performance. However, the Caddie makes up for it in handling and safety with extra emphasis given to the occupants' comfort. The 10-speed transmission also helps to transfer the power in a more consistent and linear manner which makes the ride less lethargic and easy to go.
The 10-speed gearbox helps propel the vehicle from standstill to sixty in about 6.5 seconds according to Cadillac. Compared to its competition, it does a pretty good job at it. It is quite difficult to bring about a balance, but Cadillac has managed to achieve it.

None of its competitions comes equipped with a 10-speed transmission and that helps the CT5 stay a slab above its competition in terms of power and torque distribution. It also helps in lowering the load on the transmission.
The CT5 is based on Cadillac’s Alpha platform which used to underpin the outgoing CTS and ATS but sits on a longer wheelbase than its predecessors. This makes the CT5 similar in size as the BMW 5 series wherein it competes with the 3 series!
The chassis has been strengthened and the overall rigidity has been bumped up to translate into better driving dynamics and improved handling. It uses a McPherson type front suspension with dual lower ball joints, twin-tube struts and direct-acting stabilizer bar at the front. A five-link independent coil springs with a stabilizer bar takes care of the rear. An electric rack-mounted variable effort power steering is used. The Luxury and Premium Luxury variant ride on 18-inch aluminum alloys wrapped in 245/45 section tires. The 19-inch ones are an option on the Premium Luxury and come as stock on the Sport in 245/40 section tires.
The CT5 uses disc brakes with dura life brake rotor. It is a specially formulated polymer coating that helps in maintaining optimal performance and protection against the forces of nature. It helps in keeping the rotor edges and vanes clean and thus optimizing airflow for better efficiency. The sport variant has an option of performance-oriented Brembo Brakes.

The CT5 is the lightest of the lot and with an efficient transmission and surely has the numbers to provide a very impressive range. The use of a twin-scroll turbocharger setup also acts as a boon for the optimized use of fuel.

However, this Caddie is not the most fuel-efficient of the lot. The Bimmer has a combined efficiency figure of 30MPG, with 22 miles for the gallon in the city and 30 miles on the highway.
Cadillac has taken extensive care of the cabin when designing, focusing on passenger comfort and driver involvement. The legroom and entry approach has been redesigned for easy entry and exit of occupants at the front. Best in class legroom at the rear even after chiseling off the rear to have a fastback look is impressive. The interior is a harmony of sophistication, luxury, and craftsmanship which Cadillac has tuned in perfectly.
Open-pore wood trimming along with warm maple sugar leather interiors, heated steering wheel with heated or cooled seats are few of the options spread across the trims.
The Sport Trim has the exclusive option of wrapping the interior with carbon fiber along with magnesium paddle shifters. Additional exclusive interior modifications are available in the optional Platinum Package which showers the interior of the CT5 with heavenly blessings. Cadillac has taken care not to let down the customization part go in vain!

The wheelbase was extended for the sole purpose of rear passenger comfort which shows the extent of importance given to it. The rigid body structure makes the ride less harsh. Acoustic treatment for the underbody and the glass makes the cabin a quiet place to be in. Ventilated seats with both heated and cooled functionality and proper contoured shape to hold the occupants in adds to the comfort of the Cadillac. It even gets an optional lumbar massage feature. Talk about customer satisfaction!
Cadillac has taken time to gulp in the feedback and criticism of the uninspiring infotainment system of the outgoing CTS and ATS sedans. They have done the part to introduce a completely redesigned and intuitive 10-inch 1080dp color Infotainment system. It supports both Android Auto and Apple Carplay support.
The CT5 has the least cargo space when compared to its competition due to the controversial rear design in which the car was shaved to mimic a fastback. This was done by sacrificing cargo space to form the declining creases of a fastback. Despite this, it doesn't fall much behind its competition with the Alfa Romeo with only one cu-ft more.Â

The Cadillac has adapted design elements directly from its radically designed mate, the Escala concept which has paved the way for all future Cadillacs. It makes use of practicality, space, and lines to carve everything into a single package which is seen on the 2020 Cadillac CT5. The headlamps and taillamps are LEDs from the base up, which adds to the persona of the car.
The front fascia with the running DRL flowing vertically into the bumper has made this stand out from the rest of the lot. The front and rear bumpers are redesigned with the term “SPORT” in mind. It has helped Cadillac retain the aura of the outgoing CTS. The rear quarter was redesigned to resemble a fastback. This as an overall package brings a whole new level of elegance to the new lineup.
The CT5 is marginally smaller than the CTS and it isn’t surprising given that it also replaces the much smaller ATS. The CT5 is 193.8 inches long, 1.7 inches shorter than the CTS, and 74.1 inches wide, almost two inches wider than the CTS. So while it’s shorter, the added width helps with the planted stance. Its wheelbase is around 1.5 inches longer than the CTS at 116 inches.

Cadillac has gone the extra mile to caress the CT5 with all the technological gizmos to provide the highest sense of security. The CT5 comes with a two years plan of an Onstar safety and security plan for occupants to stay safe and prepared in any complications. It has a dedicated set of advisors who guide through such situations. Some of the safety features are
This German Bruder produced more power and torque than its American counterpart but the lead ends there. The CT5 provides a value for money proposition which makes Beemer question itself. With the use of extensive leather and other upmarket products on the inside, Cadillac has finally hit back at its German competitors.
Audi has also similarly managed to pull a leg with its performance figures despite being a marginal one but the pricing takes away just because of a $1700 price gap between the two. It is also shorter than its competition which makes the interior cramped.
The most powerful of the lot, this is the only competition which evens questions the Cadillac’s value for money factor. But launched in 2016, it is long overdue for a facelift. With the new design language of the CT5, Giulia fails to impress. Along with the aesthetics, it's also short on space which favors the Cadillac.
The Cadillac CT5 makes a very strong case for itself with a brand new Design Language. With the focus given to ride handling and comfort, this value for money factor helps it pull a wild card against its competitors. Cadillac has managed to blend in the right ingredients and pull it out into a very competitive segment. And for those who have performance as their foremost priority, Cadillac has the more powerful CT5-V in the pipelines.
