Lexus offers this mid-size luxury SUV in a variety of flavors. The base RX 350, the one we're reviewing here, starts at an MSRP of $44,150. It is offered in just one stand-alone trim, setting aside the RX 350 F Sport model. There's also a three-row version of the same, which Lexus calls the RX 350L.

Otherwise, both are powered by the same 295 hp V6 and get FWD and an 8-speed automatic as standard. Then you have the hybrid version of the Lexus RX, known as the RX 450h and RX 450hL. They get an E-CVT instead and pair two electric motors to the mighty V6 to bump power to 308 hp.

Now, the RX 350 already has impressive reliability scores from J.D. Power. Even the IIHS has recognized it as their Top Safety Pick. But the NHTSA has rated it with 4 stars, which is definitely above average but not as great. But the addition of Lexus Safety Sense 2.0+ as standard should definitely turn things around.

The RX 350 is offered as a stand-alone trim. So choices are simple. There are, however, several packages that Lexus offers as extras. They include Premium Package which adds Matte Walnut or Matte Bamboo interior trim and power-folding, auto-dimming exterior mirrors. Then you can have the Luxury Package which includes all features from the Premium Package and adds semi-aniline leather interior trim, Lexus Memory System for the driver's seat, and outside mirrors. Other Packages include Navigation Package, Navigation/Mark Levinson Package, Cold Weather Package, and Towing Prep Package.

The engine of the Lexus RX350 remains untouched for the year 2020. The ride houses the same 3.5L V6 which bundles 295 hp with 268 lb.-ft. torque, the highest in the segment. The RX 350 leads the power league with a huge margin and is followed up by the BMW X3 sDrive 30i and the Audi Q5 2.0T, both of which produce 248 hp from a 2.0L four-pot.

Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic transmission coupled with either a Front or an All-wheel drive system. The Lexus RX 350 takes a punch from almost all its competitors in terms of sprinting. The ride houses the biggest engine and produces the greatest power figures, yet lags behind in the 0-60 race.

It requires 7.7 seconds in order to attain the 60 MPH mark from zero, which is quite slow in front of the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300’s 5.8 seconds sprint. The Audi Q5 and BMW 3 are at a tie with their 6.2 seconds 0 to 60 mph run. But the story is entirely different in a quarter-mile race. Out on the road, the RX feels peppy to drive. Considering the V6 powerhouse and the heft, the RX 350 may seem like a serious fuel-burner, but the ride simply surprises us with its fuel economy numbers. With a combined MPG of 23, the RX 350 FWD turns out to be a rather fuel-efficient car.

Pair that with its massive 19.2 gallons fuel tank, and you get a mixed driving range of 442 miles, which is at par with the segment. Pairing the RX 350's V6 with the AWD setup reduces the mpg ratings to 19 in the city, 26 on the highway, and 22 combined.

This in comparison to the Audi Q5, having AWD as standard, is quite inefficient. But the Q5 has a smaller 18.5-gallon fuel tank, and that allows it to return 444 miles of combined driving range. But none of the SUVs here are quite as fuel-efficient as the BMW X3, offering a combined mpg of 27.

There are no fundamental changes to the RX 350’s cabin for 2020 but it houses a major change in the infotainment panel. Open the door and the cabin feels as premium as always, with plush level upholstery, cabin accents, and ultra-luxurious seats. The cabin has a sensible design-layout that is well-suited for the driver.

The cabin is also very well muffled and restricts most of the engine and wind noises. The seats are as comfy as they can get, with great support and cushioning. The rear seats of the 2020 Lexus RX 350 are also a great place to be in with 38.0 inches of legroom. Its spacious three-across rear bench seat setup provides a cozy spot to be in.

But speak of cargo volume and suddenly the RX 350 starts looking bland and tasteless. It offers a trunk capacity of 18.4 cubic feet, which happens to be the least in the segment. Though this space is large enough to fit the bags for a whole family’s weekend trip, but place it shoulder-to-shoulder against its competitors, and this figure looks unusually small.

But the ride finally scraps its orthodox Remote Touch Interface infotainment system and employs an 8-inch touchscreen focal infotainment system. The screen size can be upgraded to an optional 12.3-inch too. Speaking of the styling factor, the 2020 Lexus RX 350 undergoes some minor tweaks for the upcoming year. The front and rear fascia have been resculpted a lot more tastefully than before. The headlights and taillights both have been made slimmer and more attractive and replaced with slimmer LEDs as standard.

Even the spindle grille has been refreshed to look a lot more expressive. This has been achieved by moving the bottom border a little higher to match its sides. And instead of the straight horizontal lines, there is an L-shaped block mesh that highlights the character of the grille even more.

In terms of size, the 2020 Lexus RX 350 is the longest, widest, and tallest offering of the segment, which simply put, implies that the ride offers the most room on the inside. At over 4200 pounds, it is also the heaviest. But the wheelbase of the RX 350 at 109.8 inches is the shortest, making for its nimble handling.

The 2020 Lexus RX gets a slew of safety features in its arsenal. From LED head and tail lights to Lexus Safety Sense 2.0+, all of these have been made a standard fitment as part of the 2020 update. The Audi Q5 2.0T is the seconds most pricey option on the list. With a sticker price of $43,300 the Q5 lands right behind the RX 350. Like the X3, it is also complemented by a 2.0L I4 which churns out 248 hp, but it is bundled with 273 lb.-ft. torque, which is class-leading. It even gets AWD as standard, making for more controlled performance overall. Also, the Audi Q5 is very subtle yet handsome, while the Lexus looks like it's trying too hard.

Lexus RX 350 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLC 300

The Mercedes-Benz GLC300 is the most cost-effective option to go for. Starting at a base price of $42,500, the brand offers the luxury mid-size SUV quotient at the lowest cost. The ride, just like every other Lexus competitor, is fitted with a 2.0L I4 which can fabricate an easy 255 hp, along with 273 lb.-ft. torque. Though the pony mill for this ride may look a bit week, it can sprint from 0-60 MPH in just 5.9 seconds, which is the fastest figure in this section.
