The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is available in three different trims: Base, Premium, and Limited. Starting at an MSRP of $22,145, the 2020 Crosstrek retains the same 2L Boxer-4 motor mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional CVT automatic transmission. 

However, for 2020, Subaru has managed to provide a few upgrades like automatic climate control, Subaru's Intelligent Drive, collision-detection, and automatic doors lock system across the trim levels as standard.

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek also gets many additional interior features like a StarLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6-way powered driver's seats, and leather upholstery.

Along with that, there are many safety features like a post and pre-collision safety system and blindspot detection, rear cross-traffic alert. The list of other optional features like a Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission, power moonroof, push-button start, and Harmon Kardon audio system further accessorize the Crosstrek.

Though the Base trim of the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek turned out to be quite well-packed with decent interior and safety features as standard, we would prefer the Premium trim, which comes for an MSRP of $23,195. This trim comes with many features like heated exterior mirrors, SiriusXM radio, six-speaker audio system, fog lamps, windshield wiper de-icer, StarLink 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and many more.

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek comes with the 2L Boxer-4 motor producing 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. This is a double overhead cam naturally aspirated motor capable of towing a maximum of 1,500 lbs. There is a full-time symmetrical all-wheel-drive system as standard across all three trims as well. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid manages to give out a slightly lower 148 hp and 149 lb-ft of torque.

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. However, there is also an optional Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission. This CVT automatic offers 8-speed manual shift mode, X-Mode, hill descent control, steering-mounted paddle shifters, SI-DRIVE engine performance modes, and engine start/stop. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid also gets the same CVT automatic transmission, however, the manual transmission is not offered.

The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek with an automatic transmission takes 9.0 seconds to gear up from 0-60 MPH. The manual transmission only aggravates the 0-60 MPH time of the Subaru Crosstrek even further. Among its class though, the 2020 Hyundai Kona turned out to be the quickest with 6.8 seconds run from 0-60 MPH. The 2020 Mazda CX-30 also managed to get a better 0-60 MPH time of 7.5 seconds. However, the 2020 Buick Encore turned out to be the slowest of the lot with a 0-60 MPH and a quarter-mile time of 9.5 seconds and 17 seconds.

Even though the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is not the fastest subcompact SUV in the segment, we were quite impressed with its overall driving dynamics. The 2020 Crosstrek offered excellent braking performance, coming to a complete halt from 60-0 MPH in just 120 feet. The handling and ride quality also remained excellent due to a neutral suspension setup on offer. To top it off, the steering offered a decent feel and feedback and weighed quite well as the speeds rise.

With the 6-speed manual transmission, the 2020 Crosstrek delivers 23 MPG in the city, 30 MPG on the highway, and combined gas mileage of 28 MPG. However, the CVT Crosstrek returned an even better 27 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. An impressive fuel economy is expected from a car touted as a daily driver and the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek doesn't disappoint. The features like automatic stop/start and multiple driving modes also help the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek to extract an even better gas mileage.

With a 16.6-gallon fuel tank capacity on offer, the 2020 Crosstrek managed to extract an impressive 448 miles of city range and 548 miles of highway range, with a combined range of 498 miles. Among the rest, the 2020 Crosstrek and the 2020 Kona share the top spot on the fuel economy charts with their 30 MPG combined rating.

The Buick Encore trails behind by a small margin though, with its 27 MPG of combined gas mileage. The 2020 Buick Encore is indeed the heaviest of the lot which ruins the SUV’s fuel efficiency figures.

On the inside, the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek keeps things very clean and straightforward, unlike the rugged exterior. The Crosstrek cabin has a neat arrangement with a minimalistic dashboard that does look outdated when compared to its rivals. On the brighter side, the interior of Crosstrek is thoughtful and inspires convenience. The black and orange-colored interior of the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek manages to look quite upmarket and premium. This subcompact crossover also receives many features like a StarLink infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, leather upholstery for the Limited trim, electronic seat adjustability, and an optional moonroof.

The front and rear seats of the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek offer the best in class shoulder room and legroom in comparison to the 2020 Mazda CX-30, 2020 Hyundai Kona, and the 2020 Buick Encore. Even when it comes to the headroom, the front row of the 2020 Crosstrek edges out the competition. However, both the 2020 Mazda CX-30 and 2020 Buick Encore came out with a slightly higher headroom of 38.3" and 38.8" in comparison to the 38" for the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek. The cargo space of 20.8 cubic feet offered by 2020 Crosstrek is also the highest of the lot, which is followed by the 2020 CX-30 with 20.2 cubic feet.

The infotainment system in the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek is a cohesion of three different screens working together. There is a tiny digital driver's information display in the instrument cluster that sits between the analog gauges and can control various vehicle settings. The lower trims get a 6.5 inch StarLink touchscreen infotainment system, while the highest Limited trim gets an 8.0-inch unit. The upper screen serves as an information panel and displays various information like range, weather, etc.

The menu structure is easy to understand even for first-time users but the graphics look dated. This system gets all the features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM radio, and many more as standard.
