The 2021 model Audi A7,which is on sale now will be a carried over from the 2020 model and shall remain more or less the same car. Currently the A7 Sedan is offered in three trims and the prices kickstart from $69,200 for the Premium trim and go all the way to $79,700 for the top-spec Prestige trim. Prices have stayed somewhat the same over last year. Three trims are offered - Premium/ Premium Plus/ Prestige and all remain mechanically the same.

Overview

The 2021 Audi A7 is finally on sale now and after the recent refresh that it received in 2020, it comes back unchanged for this year. Prices have remained somewhat the same and the 2021 A7 range starts at an MSRP of $69,200. There is only one engine offered, a 3.0L turbocharged V-6 that churns out 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 Audi A7 can do the 0-60 mph sprint in just 5.2 seconds.

There are three trims on offer for the 2021 Audi A7 - Premium/ Premium Plus/ Prestige and the prices kickstart from $69,200 for the Premium trim and go all the way to $79,700 for the top-spec Prestige trim. It faces stiff competition from the likes of segment hot sellers like the Mercedes CLS 450 and the Maserati Ghibli.

Pricing and Features
7.5/10

The 2021 Audi A7 trim levels will comprise of the same three trim options: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. There will be no changes done in terms of the trim line up and hence you are sure to get all the latest tech and features including the Quattro all-wheel drive as standard. The prices of the current 2021 Audi A7 start at $69,200 for the base Premium trim which also comes quite loaded and ends at $79,700 for the top-of-the-line Prestige trim.

If you want to experience the ultimate luxury then the car shall set you back at least around $85,000 due to all the extra packages which add more to all the tech and features on offer. It comes with a lot of optional packages such as the Driver and Executive packages. Buying Advice

We will recommend the Premium Plus trim from the 2021 Audi A7 Sedan lineup. Apart from Audi’s Quattro four-wheel drive, it packs advanced features such as Audi’s virtual cockpit, HD Matrix-Design LED Headlights w/Laser and Ambient LED Interior Lighting. It strikes a sweet balance between price and value and if you want to add more features to the trim from the top of the line trim, you can do it with the various packages that Audi offers.

Engine and Performance
8.5/10

During everyday driving, we appreciated the Audi's effortless quickness. Its sophisticated all-wheel-drive system provided excellent traction in wet and dry conditions. -Car And Driver

The 2021 Audi A7 will continue to get the 55 TFSI engine which currently does its duty in the current model as well which is the same 3.0L turbocharged V-6 that churns out 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The power is put down through Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive which is offered as standard on all trims. All this power is managed with the help of a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The engine feels super refined and offers linear performance. While it is mid-range of the rev counter that offers the most relaxed drive, it is the top end that makes this engine put a smile on your face. However, the Audi A7 is no rubber burner and you would have to opt for the more expensive S7 if you want to indulge in a sporty driving experience. The A7 sedan is tuned more towards comfort and cruising rather than outright performance.

The Mercedes CLS 450 manages to beat the Audi A7 in the numbers game as its output puts it right at the top in this comparison. On the other hand, the Maserati Ghibli takes the second spot but is the most expensive car in its segment. Still, it is the Audi A7 that offers $ 206 per horsepower which gives the best value in its segment.

Fuel Economy
9.0/10

Where we can give Audi A7’s engine full marks is in terms of frugality. The Audi A7’s turbocharged motor gets one of the best-in-class, EPA estimated fuel mileage of 25 MPG in mixed driving conditions. However, with its 19.3 -gallon fuel tank it offers the least amount of range in this comparison. Hence, if you are buying the sedan only for a long highway trip then the Mercedes CLS 450 offers a better deal.

Looking at the rivals, it’s just the Mercedes CLS 450 that manages to beat even the Audi A7 in terms of fuel efficiency, although just by a margin. On the other hand, the Maserati Ghibli offers the worst fuel economy in this comparison but offers a bigger fuel tank to compensate for the lack of efficiency. The 2021 Audi A7 will offer the same fuel efficiency numbers and any further improvement can only be expected with its next iteration.

The CLS is home to the most frugal powerplant in its class with both class-leading fuel efficiency and the largest tank. But that is not to say that the Audi A7 is any less of a grand tourer. It is a continent crusher in its own right.

Interior
7.5/10

"While the swoopy roofline suggests rear visibility will be impeded, the A7 actually has excellent sightlines all around." - Edmunds

The 2021 Audi A7 comes properly loaded when it comes to pampering its passengers inside the cabin. Digital displays are the theme on the inside and the top-specced A7 offers three of them. The dashboard looks quite modern and offers a sort of understatement which most German cars do. On the inside, it offers features such as dual-zone climate control and high-resolution touchscreens as standard. However, even though the screen is intuitive to use it takes some time to get used to them.

The 2021 A7 offers comfortable front as well as rear seats with the front ones offering heating and cooling functions as well. At the rear, the legroom is excellent but the headspace is limited due to the sloping roofline. The power-adjustable front seats offer a wide range of adjustments with options to customize the seat materials. Soft-touch materials are used all around the cabin and all the physical buttons feel quite premium.

The cargo space of 18.9 cubic feet in the Audi A7 is not only commodious but the best in its class. If more space is needed, the folding of the second row of seats shall liberate 49 cubic feet of cargo space. The sedan boasts of advanced boot features such as gesture opening of the tailgate and electric closing. It is also a well-organized trunk and offers a low lift-over height for loading luggage easily.

Exterior
9.9/10

"The minimalist design still manages to turn heads and the Audi exudes class from every inch of metal." - Car Buzz

The A7 sedan recently got an update in terms of its exterior styling but still, it is not difficult to mistake it for its predecessor. The sedan now offers quite an attractive look and offers advanced exterior features such as animated LED headlights and taillamps. At the rear the sloping roofline makes it stand out and the spoiler adds to the sporty touch. Overall, the sedan looks quite opulent and upmarket from the outside with the 2021 model getting the same design and styling on the outside.

The A7 looks very much like a coupe just like its main rival, the Mercedes CLS 450. But it offers a simpler look with its straight and elegant lines and creases. From the sides, it looks longer compared to the 2019 model due to its increased wheelbase. At the front, the big grille and the sharp bonnet shut lines help it gain an imposing look.

Compared to its rivals, the Audi A7 Sedan is longer at 195.6 inches than the Maserati Ghibli. However, the Mercedes CLS 450 is the longest car here and offers the best road presence. With curb weights starting at 4332 lbs, the Audi A7 sedan is nearly 80 lbs heavier than its other heaviest counterpart. It also offers the best ground clearance with the air suspension capable of increasing or decreasing its clearance anytime you demand it.

Safety
9.7/10

The 2021 Audi A7 is the IIHS top safety pick which explains a lot about how car the car is. The NHTSA has not tested the 2021 A7 but looking at what it offers in terms of safety features and drier assistance features it is safe to assume that it is quite a safe car. The trim tested by the IIHS was the Premium trim which offers automatic emergency braking.

The system is quite advanced and can brake the car automatically in case if a pedestrian or a cyclist comes in front of the car. The 360-degree camera is also a boon in urban spaces and there are many other optional sensors that enable the car to self-park or follow a car in front without driver intervention.

Competition
9.0/10

2021 Audi A7 Vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz CLS

The Mercedes CLS 450 4MATIC has quite been the benchmark in its segment. It offers the best performance along with the best in class fuel efficiency as well. Not just that, it is the most spacious sedan here and also gets the best road presence in comparison to its rivals. It feels properly premium on the inside and gets top-notch fit and finish as well. However, the Audi A7 feels more advanced on the inside and comes at a lesser price which makes it more lucrative than the Mercedes.

2021 Audi A7 Vs 2021 Maserati Ghibli Sedan

Though the Maserati Ghibli is the most expensive car here, however, it does not offer the best performance or fuel efficiency. What it offers is the best driving dynamics coupled with the most opulent cabin you can get in its segment. Its lightweight chassis makes it quite nimble and it is simply the most engaging sedan to drive in this comparison. However, it neither offers the best space or the most comfortable ride in its class. Hence, if you are looking for a sedan for comfort and convenience, the Audi A7 is simply the better car.

2021 Audi A7 Vs 2021 Porsche Panamera

The 2021 A7 starts at a base price of around $69,200 while the 2021 Porsche Panamera costs around $87,200 for the base trim. Although both are evenly matched in terms of power, the Audi offers more torque than the Porsche. 2021 Panamera gets from 0-60 mph 0.4 seconds faster than the Audi. The Audi stands out with its economical figures when compared to the Panamera.

Final Verdict

The 2021 Audi A7 offers quite a lot of tech and luxury for the price it comes at. The excellent ride, safety features, and cabin on offer make it the perfect choice for customers looking for a luxurious, elegant, and comfortable sedan. But as the 2021 Audi A7 will remain more or less the same exact car we suggest you not wait for its launch and get your bookings done if this car is on your shopping list this year.
