This compact crossover SUV retains the 9 exterior colors and multiplied interior and upholstery colors too. When it comes to the interior, the 2021 X4 gets a 10.3" iDrive infotainment system, a 12-speaker audio system, automatic climate control, heated and powered seats, leather upholstery, and many more as standard. Even though the 2021 BMW X4  xDrive30i retains the same 2L turbocharged inline-4 motor mated to the 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which does the duty in the outgoing 2020 X4 as well. This powertrain helps the compact crossover SUV to put out 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. A full-time xDrive AWD drivetrain is also offered. A maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs makes it a decently versatile luxury crossover SUV.

The ride and handling have always been one of the biggest USPs of the 2021 BMW X4. It offers excellent body control and very minimal body roll while taking the corners. The steering is lighting quick and offers an excellent feel and feedback too. The 2021 X4 takes the corners with the precision of a sports sedan, mainly due to the stiffer suspension setup. However, this stiff suspension doesn't hamper the ride quality, which is quite comfortable during the slow city speeds. As the speeds rise during the highway riding, the 2021 X4 retains the composure, with no vertical movement. 

The 2021 BMW X4 xDrive30i managed to do the 0-60 mph in 6 seconds and offered a quarter-mile time of 13.4 seconds. With front and rear brake rotors that are sized at 13", the 2021 BMW X4 offered precise braking performance, with very minimal nose dive and brake fade. However, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe did the same 0-60 mph in a slightly lower 5.8 seconds, due to the more powerful 255 hp motor under the hood. The 2021 BMW X4 xDrive30i and the 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback turned out to be the most fuel-efficient offering of the segment, with combined gas mileage of 25 MPG. The interior of the 2021 BMW X4 might be a bit more vanilla and watered down than the exterior, but it is still decently attractive and ergonomic. The design language of the cabin is clean and quite modern. It also comes forward with the same high-quality materials used in the 2020 BMW X4, including soft-touch plastic, aluminum, and synthetic leather strewed across the cabin, and many more to give it an upmarket feel. The legroom of 41.7" for the front seat is the best in class. Even though the X4 is not the best when it comes to the headroom and shoulder room, it is not poor by any means.

Being a 5-seater compact crossover premium SUV, the 2021 X4 also offers many features like leather upholstery, heated and powered seats, automatic climate control, sunroof, and many more as standard. The rear seat of the 2021 BMW X4 is where things start to fall apart. Coming with three trim configurations, all of them offer a mediocre headroom of 37.5", which is much lesser than the rivals. The legroom and shoulder room are also not as good as the rivals. However, the cargo capacity of 18.5 cu ft offered by the 2021 BMW X4 turned out to be quite good for the segment.

The 2021 BMW X4 turned out to be the worst of the segment in terms of interior space on offer and the 2021 Audi Q5 Sportback turned out to be the best. The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe also offered a better front row space. Both the monikers turn out to be better in terms of rear row space as well. However, the 2021 Porsche Macan's interior space dimensions haven't been revealed yet. When it comes to the cargo capacity, the 2021 GLC Coupe offered the best space of 19.4 cu ft, followed by the 2021 X4 with 18.5 cu ft. The entertainment duties of the 2021 X4 are handled by the 10.3" infotainment system and the audio is handled by the 12-speaker audio system.

This iDrive 7.0 infotainment system accepts multiple inputs like voice, touchscreen, and iDrive touchpad Controller. Gestures also work great, and they are not as distracting as was the case before. This infotainment is quite intuitive with no lags, excellent display quality, and an easy interface. The learning curve is minimal too. Many connectivity features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, and many more are offered as standard. The side view of the 2021 X4 retains the same coupe-like design language, following the ethos of the outgoing moniker. The massive 19" alloy wheels coupled with the blacked-out pillars, sharp body lines, and blacked-out heated and powered side mirrors add character to this crossover SUV. We also like the coupe-like sloping roofline, making the 2021 X4 look more sporty than most of the rivals. When it comes to the rearview, the 2021 BMW X4 gets the LED taillights, a shark fin antenna, and silver skid plates. However, the impressive exterior dimension doesn't translate to a better interior space, which is a downer.

The 2021 Porsche Macan is a compact SUV that is available for a base MSRP of $52,100. The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLC Coupe, which is available for a base MSRP of $51,650, turned out to be in the same ballpark as the 2021 X4 in terms of price. However, it is slightly faster in terms of 0-60 mph and quarter-mile times. The cabin space is much superior too. However, the combined gas mileage and tank range are slightly lower than the X4. The same is the case with the driving experience on offer, in which the X4 turned out to be in a different league. 

The 2021 BMW X4 is the perfect example of a luxury compact SUV that ticks most of the boxes for buyers. It is a fun-to-drive moniker due to its composed handling and unmatched driving dynamics. We also like the 2L turbocharged inline-4 motor and the impressive ride quality on offer. However, the interior space is quite mediocre, especially for the rear seat occupant and that will be a deal-breaker to many family buyers.
