Overall Rating
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark is a subcompact hatchback that is available for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595. Coming in with 4 trim configurations, the 2021 Spark comes with the same 1.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 motor mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission, putting out 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque. As a result, the car can do 0-60 mph in 10.7 seconds and offer combined gas mileage of 33 MPG. The car also comes with a few more exterior colors for this 2021 iteration.
The Chevrolet Spark is a subcompact hatchback that has been in continuous production for quite a long time. Being one of the cheapest vehicles to be sold in the United States, it is also a favorite amongst first-time car buyers and college students. With the arrival of the 2021 Chevrolet Spark, which is offered for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark retains the same cheeky styling and easy-to-drive factor, which helps it to be a great city runner. This moniker also retains all the mechanicals of the outgoing 2020 model and comes with the same 1.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 motor producing 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque.
Coming in with the same 4 trim configurations along with a plethora of exterior colors, the 2021 Spark does offer a decent level of features and options to choose from depending on the trim that you are choosing. Many features like leatherette upholstery, heated seats, StabiliTrak stability control, keyless entry, 15" alloy wheels, and many more come as standard. The car can also be had for a minimum lease price of $241/month, making it quite value-for-money as well. Competing with the likes of the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback and the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage, we will find out how well the 2021 Spark stacks up against the rivals in this review.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark is a subcompact hatchback that is available in 4 trim configurations. Available for a selling price of $16,495 for the manual transmission and $17,595 for the ones equipped with the CVT automatic transmission, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark 1LT seems to be the most value for money trim of the lot, mainly due to the inclusion of features like the satellite radio and keyless entry. We would also recommend you to opt for the regular 5-speed manual since it is more capable and feels peppier as well. The optional safety and driver-assistance features forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, etc should also be selected from the optional list.

The 2021 Spark receives the smallest of updates—a pair of new extra-cost paint options . - Caranddriver
The 2021 Spark is offered for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595 for the LS trim and the price goes all the way to an MSRP of $19,095 for the 2LT trim. Coming in with four trim configurations, namely LS, 1LT, ACTIV, and 2LT, the 2021 Spark comes with the same 1.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 motor mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission for all 4 trims. With no major changes happing to the exterior design, it still offers the same 15" alloy wheels wrapped in P185/55R15 all-season tires, integrated spoiler, chrome garnishes, and many more. However, new exterior colors are offered for this 2021 model.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark also comes unchanged in the interior front, retaining the same jet back interior color and design along with all the features like a 7" touchscreen infotainment system, 6-speaker audio system, air conditioning system, heated seats, leatherette upholstery, and many more. However, most of these features come only as standard with the top-of-the-line 2LT and ACTIV trims. When it comes to the driver-assistance front, the 2021 Spark misses out on all the features like automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, rear parking sensors, etc as standard. However, you can opt them from the optional list.

The 2021 Chevrolet Spark lacks for power and suffers from a busy ride quality. - Thecarconnection
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark, which is available for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595, comes with the same 1.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 motor producing 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque, which did the duty in the outgoing 2020 model. This motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission, with the latter being about $900 more expensive. The car also comes mated to the FWD drivetrain layout and no optional AWD is offered.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark is a perfect city car, due to the light steering setup and easy-to-drive driving experience. The suspension is quite soft, which helps to absorb all the irregularities on the road with ease, especially during slow city speeds. However, as the speeds rise during highway riding, the car feels unstable and offers high vertical movement. The 2021 Spark is also not a dynamically sorted hatchback and hence is not going to thrill the drivers with impeccable handling, especially around the corners. High body roll and a lot of understeers are part of the package as well.
With a puny 98 hp naturally aspirated inline-4 motor under the hood, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark managed to do the 0-60 mph in 10.7 seconds and quarter-mile in 18 seconds. It can also achieve a top speed of 98 MPH, making it the worst of the lot. With 9.3" front rotors and 7.9" rear rotors, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark, which is available for a base MSRP of $14,595, also manages to do the braking quite effectively. However, the 60-0 mph braking distance hasn't been measured yet.

The 2021 Chevrolet Spark came to second place in terms of performance numbers, with the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback getting the crown, due to it offering 120 hp and 112 lb-ft of torque. The 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage offered the lowest performance figures of the lot, putting out 78 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque. In terms of 0-60 mph times as well, the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback turned out to be the best of the lot, offering a time of 8.9 seconds. This is followed by the 2021 Spark with a time of 10.7 seconds and the 2021 Mirage with a time of 12 seconds.
Despite its teensy size and teeny engine, the Spark doesn't earn fantastic EPA estimates. - Caranddriver
With no changes to the powertrain on offer, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark comes out with similar gas mileage to the outgoing 2020 model. This subcompact hatchback offers a city gas mileage of 30 MPG and a highway gas mileage of 38 MPG, both of which equates to combined gas mileage of 33 MPG, which is quite decent.
Available for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark also offers a fuel tank capacity of 9 gallons, which helps the car to give out a city tank range of 270 miles and a highway tank range of 342 miles. The combined tank range of 297 miles is also offered. However, if you opt for the manual transmission of the 2021 Spark, it manages to give out a slightly lower city gas mileage of 29 MPG.

The 2021 Chevrolet Spark turned out to be the least fuel-efficient offering of the segment and the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage, with its puny inline-3 motor, offered the best in class combined gas mileage of 39 MPG. The 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback's 36 MPG of combined gas mileage is also better than that of the 2021 Spark. It also turned out to be the best of the lot in terms of tank range, due to the 11.9-gallon fuel tank capacity.
The Spark's interior is almost as funky as its body, and it's perfect for the type of car it is. - Carbuzz
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark comes with no changes to the interior front, in comparison to the outgoing 2020 mode. Retaining the same jet black interior color along with a decent list of features including heated seats, leatherette upholstery, optional sunroof, steering mounted controls, and leather-wrapped steering wheel, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark, which is available for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595, is a decent option in terms of features. When it comes to the front row space, even though the legroom and shoulder room is slightly lower than the rivals, it will not be a deal-breaker as it feels quite adequate for the segment.
When it comes to the rear row, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark offered a mediocre legroom and shoulder room, which would make it quite uncomfortable for most Americans. Even the headroom of 37" is also the worst of the segment. When it comes to the cargo capacity, the 2021 Sparks 11 cu ft makes it less versatile than all the rivals from the same segment. Overall we found the cabin of the 2021 Chevrolet Spark quite uncomfortable for anything more than a small city commute. Terrible under-thigh support of the seats along with mediocre side bolstering will also be deal-breakers.

The 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback offered much better interior space for both the front and rear row passengers. It also beats the 2021 Mirage on most fronts in terms of interior space too. We also found the 2021 Mirage to be much superior in space in comparison to the 2021 Spark. Both the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback and the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage also offered a superior 17.4 cu ft and 17.1 cu ft of cargo capacity as well. When it comes to the entertainment on offer, the 2021 Spark comes with a 7" touchscreen infotainment system and a 6-speaker audio system for the higher trims, and a 4-speaker audio system for the lower trims.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark's infotainment system is the saving grace of this cabin. It is easily the best infotainment of the segment and offers a lot of connectivity features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity, USB, Aux, and many more as standard. The interface is also very easy to use with no lags and stutters. The display quality and touch sensitivity are perfect as well. Along with that, the 6-speaker audio system that comes with the higher trim configurations offers an excellent audio experience. Some of the infotainment and audio system features on offer are:
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark may be cute, but it’s also very basic. - Thecarconnection
Being an economical hatchback from a domestic brand, the 2021 Chevrolet Spark does look quite premium for the segment. Even though this 2021 iteration receives no changes to the design front, apart from the inclusion of a few more premium colors to the list, the front fascia of this hatchback does retain the same ethos of the outgoing model, with the inclusion of the automatic halogen headlight with LED DRLs, blacked-out grille and air dam with chrome bezel, front foglights, and the protruding hood design. All of these add to the character of a small subcompact hatchback that is sold for an MSRP of just $14,595.
The side view of the 2021 Chevrolet Spark also stands out from most of the bland-looking subcompact hatchbacks, mainly due to the multiple character lines, decently large 15" alloy wheels wrapped in P185/55R15 all-season tires, and backed out pillars. The rear view of the 2021 Spark looks the quirkiest with the design cues neatly integrated into the bumper along with a roof spoiler, both of which add to its cheeky design language. With a ground clearance of 6.7", the 2021 Chevrolet Spark is also quite a versatile hatchback as it can go through the broken roads without scraping the underbody.

The 2021 Chevrolet Spark is the smallest offering of the subcompact hatchback segment, due to it having the least length, width, and wheelbase. However, the height is slightly better than the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback, which is about 1.3" is lesser. The 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage offered the least curb weight of the lot, which helps the car to offer brilliant fuel economy figures. The 2021 Spark is about 200 lbs more than the 2021 Mirage. Some of the exterior features on offer with the 2021 Chevrolet Spark are:
While the Spark is a little low on safety features, it does at least boast a complement of ten airbags including knee airbags for both front occupants and rear-seat side airbags. - Carbuzz
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark, which is available for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595, hasn't been crash-tested by the NHTSA yet. However, the IIHS gave a good rating in some of the subsections of the crash test. But the 2021 Spark didn't get the top safety pick title from IIHS. Even the outgoing 2020 model also hasn't been crash-tested by the NHTSA. Nevertheless, we were quite happy with the decent build quality on offer, especially in comparison to the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark also offers a decent list of standard safety features. Features like StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, airbags, ABS, tire pressure monitoring system, OnStar and Chevrolet connected services, and many more are offered as standard. However, all the driver-assistance features like the forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and rear parking sensors are optional extras. Some of the safety and driver-assistance features offered by the 2021 Chevrolet Spark has been mentioned below:
The 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback is a direct competitor of the 2021 Spark and comes at a base MSRP of $17,955. Even though the car is more expensive than the base trims of the 2021 Spark, it is better in all the ways, including performance, ride and handling, interior features, and gas mileage on offer. The 2021 Rio Hatchback is also more spacious and can accommodate 5-passengers quite comfortably. Many safety and driver-assistance features are standard too. Hence, the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback would be our pick of the lot.
Available for sale at a base MSRP of $14,295, the 2021 Mitsubishi Mirage is one of the most economical hatchbacks on sale currently in the United States, returning a combined gas mileage of 39 MPG. Along with that, the car also offers a more spacious interior and better trunk capacity as well. However, it feels quite cheap inside out and doesn't offer the same build quality as the 2021 Spark. The 2021 Mirage is also painfully slow and feels quite unsafe and unstable on the freeways.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark has a lot of things going for it. Coming in for sale at a base MSRP of $14,595, the 2021 Spark offers decent gas mileage, has a comfortable ride quality during slow speeds, has the best infotainment and audio system of the lot, and is surprisingly agile to drive as well. However, the car is quite slow and is not the best tool for those freeway runs. It is also quite mediocre when it comes to interior space. To top it all off, many interior and driver-assistance features are also missed out from the standard list. Hence, we would recommend you to go for the 2021 Spark only if you are on a tight budget. Otherwise, we would recommend you to get the 2021 Kia Rio Hatchback, which trumps the 2021 Spark in most aspects.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark comes in 4 trim configurations, namely LS, 1LT, ACTIV, and 2LT.
All the trims of the 2021 Chevrolet Spark come with the same 1.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 motor, putting out 98 hp and 94 lb-ft of torque.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark can be had for a lease price of just $241/month, which is for a 60-month term with a down payment of $1,186.
The 2021 Chevrolet Spark can be had for a base MSRP of $14,595 for the LS trim and goes all the way to an MSRP of $19,095 for the 2LT trim with the CVT automatic transmission.
Yes, the 2021 Chevrolet Sparks infotainment system gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard.
