The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse has seven trim levels to choose from. It starts with base L trim and then upgrades to LS, LT Cloth, LT Leather, RS, Premier, and High Country with distinctive features. There are no notable available features offered with the base trim, and it's the only one not available with an AWD system. The lower trims come dressed with cloth upholstery while the higher trims get leather seats.

A 7-inch & an 8-inch touchscreen display is offered depending on the trims selected but both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard features. A 6-speaker stereo system is standard on lower trims but the higher trims get access to a 10-speaker Bose premium sound system. Both 18 & 20-inch alloy wheels are offered for the 2021 Traverse. Speaking of safety features, the standard offerings are just a Teen Driver and a rearview camera while the rest of them are optional.

The LT Leather model makes a good choice in the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse lineup for most buyers. It's reasonably priced and comes with loads of comfort and convenience features such as a voice recognition audio system, an 8-inch touchscreen display, leather upholstery, remote engine start, etc. It's also the most economical trims to offer many of the Traverse's driver assistance features.

The 3.6-liter V-6 pulls strongly and the Traverse is on the quicker end of its class- CarAndDriver

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse is powered by the 3.6-liter V-6 engine, which gives out 310 hp and 266 lb-ft. A 9-speed automatic transmission is the sole choice of transmission. Both FWD and AWD drivetrains are available for all trims except for L trim, which is only available with an FWD setup.

The Traverse drives smaller than it is which means it's easy to maneuver in parking lots or on narrow country roads thanks to its perfectly weighted steering. The suspensions tuning masks the Traverse's weight nicely and with only one person aboard, the SUV feels downright athletic. 

The 2021 Traverse sure picks up the speed soon from 0-60 MPH in just 6.9 seconds. Its quarter-mile drag is 15.5 seconds, which is pretty substantial. Its 60-0 mph at just 126 ft is quick enough thanks to its large ventilated disc brakes but is not the best in the segment.

Only one SUV gives a tough challenge to the Traverse and that is the Ford Explorer. It packs 10 hp less than the Traverse but still manages to reach 60 mph in 6.8 seconds. Although the Kia Telluride weighs 120 pounds more than its cousin, it boasts better acceleration. Meanwhile, the Hyundai Palisade is the slowest amongst all.

Among three-row crossovers, the Traverse is relatively fuel-efficient- The Car Connection

According to EPA, the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse returns 18 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highways. Its fuel capacity is 19.4 gallons and that is very high comparatively. A range of 430 miles is offered when the tank is filled. 

The fuel figures drop down to 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway if you opt for AWD. You get a stop-start engine function, which is a fuel-saving feature, not everyone loves. The system works well, but unlike in many other vehicles, it can't be disabled.

Among its rivals, the Ford Explorer is the most fuel-efficient SUV. Despite housing an 18.6-gallon fuel tank, it delivers class-leading city and highway estimates. The Hyundai Palisade and the Kia Telluride have similar figures whereas the Traverse offers just 21 MPG combined.

The Traverse provides spacious accommodations for seven or eight passengers, including a third row sized for adults- CarAndDriver

The 2021 Chevy Traverse's interior is known to have an inferior level plastic, which gets resolved as the trim levels increase. The Traverse has a seating capacity of 8 but it gets reduced to 7 if optional second-row captain chairs are used. The seats are made of cloth in the base trims and are available in leather as the levels increase. The seats are comfortable and can be adjusted in 8 ways. Higher trims get a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel to control the climate and audio settings. 

Even the rear seats offer good comfort levels for long-distance travels. Both the second and third row are nicely spaced with decent head and legroom for six-footers. With the second and third-row stowed, the Traverse owners have a substantial 98.2 cu-ft. to fill. Raise those seats and 23 cu-ft. of dedicated cargo space remains supplemented by an additional 3.2 cu-ft. underfloor storage hold. This space is more than enough to store six large bags. 

The Hyundai Palisade and the Kia Telluride offer the least legroom in the third row but excel in the second row. The Ford Explorer offers just 18.2 cu-ft. of dedicated cargo space. The 2021 Traverse comes with Chevy's Infotainment 3 system that includes a 7-inch (lower trims) or 8-inch (higher trims) touchscreen display. A 6-speaker sound system is standard on lower trims but the 10-speaker Bose premium audio system in the higher trims is there to soothe your ears.

Both Apple Car Play and Android Auto options can now be accessed through wireless mediums. A total of 6 USB ports are available in the Traverse. Regardless of the touchscreen size, the touch response is good and smooth. Large icons can help the driver idnetify the functions easily without much complications while driving. The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse comes with an extensive list of comfort and convenience features. These include:

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse carries on with the same look as the year before. Next year, the Traverse gets an update to bring it in line with the truck-like Tahoe and Suburban. The Traverse is more rounded and softer compared to the rest of Chevy's SUVs. LED headlamps and DRLs are only available on the Premier and High Country models. It has a ground clearance of 7.2 inches, which does not favor much for off-roading.

From the side view, the windows of the Traverse are wide enough to provide a great view. It is worthy to note that the Traverse has an overall length of 204.3 inches and a wheelbase of 120.9 inches which speaks for its spacious interior. A combination of indicators and tail lights also looks cool  The 18 or 20-inch alloy wheels have been upgraded in their appearance making them look stronger and sturdier. 

The Ford Explorer's ground clearance is 0.7 inches more, which makes it better for off-roading purposes. The Hyundai Palisade is the lightest SUV weighing 4,231 pounds and yet it loses to the Traverse in terms of performance. The Kia Telluride's wheelbase is nearly 6 inches less which suggests that it has a tight interior room. Some other exterior highlights are:

2021 Chevrolet Traverse vs 2021 Kia Telluride

The Kia Telluride produces 19 hp less than the Chevy Traverse and hence, the performance stats are on the lower side. Speaking of fuel efficiency, the Telluride is slightly more fuel-efficient than the Traverse. Space and storage are better in Chevrolet with a lot of legroom in the third row. Also, the Traverse has a lot of safety features and driver-assist features that come as standard in just the base trim

2021 Chevrolet Traverse vs 2021 Hyundai Palisade

Just like its cousin, the Hyundai Palisade is slow on power and is the slowest SUV in this competition. Fuel economy is similar to both cars while the Traverse's carbon emissions are higher. Passenger space is almost similar but when it comes to practicality, the Traverse is a clear winner. On the other hand, the Palisade offers better features for a lower amount which is available only in higher trims for the Traverse.

The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse brings a lot to the table, including oodles of passenger and cargo space, a smooth ride, and intuitive technology. It's not the most athletic vehicle, but it does so many other things well. The Traverse is also available in AWD configuration which makes it perfect for winter seasons along with many other amenities.
