"Thanks in part to a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic, the Palisade is a stress-free companion for both city and highway driving." - Edmunds.com
Like the 2020 model, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade is powered by the same 3.8-liter Naturally Aspirated V6 that produces a maximum of 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The transmission duties are taken care of by an 8-speed automatic that shifts smoothly, and the standard paddle-shifters that also add to the fun.
The 2021 Hyundai Palisade can be had in both FWD and AWD setups. But with a full load of passengers or when towing, 2021 Palisade has 5,000 lbs max tow ratings, some drivers may wish for more than the humble torque on offer.
The 3.8-liter Naturally Aspirated V6 engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission is capable of catapulting the 2021 Palisade from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds and up to a top speed of 130 mph. The HTRAC AWD system uses an electronic clutch to send 50% of the power to the rear wheels, all the while locking up that ratio for speeds up to 40 mph.

The 2021 Hyundai Palisade comes with 5 different driving modes namely Comfort, Eco, Sport, Snow, and Smart that allow the hefty SUV to handle competitively in any terrain it sees fit. The standard 18-inch wheels, dampers, and the load-leveling rear suspension allow the Palisade to have a better grip around corners.
Although the 2021 Hyundai Palisade is not as nearly powerful as the segment-best 2021 Chevrolet Traverse in terms of outright figures, the 2021 Palisade is decently powerful enough for everyday commute and long journeys. The 2021 Traverse's price to power ratio is the best in the segment as it pumps out more power and costs $2,725 lesser than the Palisade. Even its twin, the Kia Telluride manages to undercut in pricing and is cheaper by $485.
"The Palisade’s gas mileage is strictly average." - Thecarconnection.com
With the same engine option as the 2020 model, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade returns the same MPG figures as the 2020 MY. The 3.8-liter V6 powering the 2021 Palisade is capable of delivering a combined mileage of 22 mpg, which is quite respectable for a car its size. Explaining further, the 2021 Palisade delivers 19 mpg at city speeds and 26 mpg out on the highway, with the FWD setup.
Now as expected, the AWD system gulps down a bit more fuel, as it delivers 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg out on the highway. Combine that with the fuel tank of 18.8-gallons, and the 2021 Palisade from a full tank gets a range of 357 miles in the city and 489 miles on the highway.

With similar engines and power figures, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade and its competitors are in the same territory when it comes to fuel economy. The 2021 Palisade's fuel economy is satisfactory at 22 mpg. Both the Kia Telluride and Honda Pilot are the most frugal SUVs in the segment, nevertheless, the 2021 Pilot with its 19.5-gallon fuel tank can traverse further without frequent fuel stops.
"The new Calligraphy trim turns what was an already-upscale mass-market vehicle into one that knocks on luxury's door." - Cnet.com
Inside the cabin of the 2021 Hyundai Palisade, the main highlight is its 7/8 passenger seating capacity with every row being spacious that also includes the third-row seats. An option for the SEL trim and standard for the Limited and Calligraphy trim, the 2nd row is equipped with a captain's chairs, which reduces the total passenger capacity of Palisade from 8 to 7 people.
At the center of the dashboard, you get your intuitive touchscreen display for the infotainment system in the Palisade. It is an 8-inch unit for the base SE and SEL trims. But the SEL trim gets a bigger 10.25-inch unit as an option, which is standard for the Limited and the new Calligraphy trim.
You get a host of features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, Driver Talk in-car intercom, rear seat quiet mode, wireless device charging, Blue Link Connected Car System, multiple 2.1 amp USB ports on all three rows, surround-view monitor amongst other things. As for audio fanatics, you get a 630-watt premium Harman & Kardon audio system with 12-speakers as standard in the Limited trim and surely in the new Calligraphy trim too.

With all the seats upright, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade gets you a modest 18.0 cu. ft. of cargo space. Both the second and third-row seats offer 60/40-split folding for added convenience, and in turn, offers 45.8 and 86.4 cu. ft. with third and second row folded respectively. In terms of interior space, the Hyundai Palisade and its competitors are more or less in the same territory.
The 2021 Palisade has lots of room inside, and that includes the third-row as well. It is evident from the above table, the 2021 Chevrolet Traverse with its segment-leading 204.3-inch length, also holds the mantle this time around too especially if you include the cargo space. At 23 cu. ft. of space with all seats up, it is way ahead in this race when compared to the others.
"With its fanged LED running lights and bowed grille, the Palisade has a reptilian look." - Thecarconnection.com
For the 2021 model, Hyundai has not tinkered with the Palisade's looks and decides to keep it mostly the same as the outgoing model. That being said, LED headlights have been made standard for the 2021 Palisade across the trim levels. Although the looks are very subjective, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade is overall an excellent-looking car.
It looks smooth on the outside with rounded designs all over the body. The exterior silhouette looks quite elegant and modern at the same time. The 2021 Palisade is not a small car and the design structure compliments the claim. Hyundai has made it a point to make the Palisade look menacing and stately. The body has the right amount of creases and curves, just enough to make the Palisade look modern and stylish.
The huge honeycomb grille with its adequate amount of chrome accents is its standout masterpiece. Bring in the Calligraphy trim, and you can immediately notice your extra bucks being shelled out for those exclusive spider-mesh 20-inch wheel designs and a slightly different grille that separates it from the rest of the lineup.

Although having more or less similar exterior dimensions as most of its competitors, the 2021 Hyundai Palisade falls behind the Chevy Traverse when it comes to its 6.7-inch longer wheelbase and overall outright exterior dimensions, which makes the Chevy notably longer, wider, and taller. Nonetheless, having a smaller footprint is always suitable for city driving as well for easier maneuverability.
"On top of the standard safety equipment, nearly every advanced safety system can be added as the trim levels progress." - Caranddriver.com
The 2020 Hyundai Palisade managed to score a perfect 5 stars in the NHTSA’s safety crash test, scoring 5 out of 5 stars in all the tests except the rollover test where it scored 4 out of 5 stars with a rollover risk of 15.90%. That being said, the safety ratings of the 2021 Palisade are the same, as there are no major updates in the safety department.
The 2021 Hyundai Palisade is equipped with a host of advanced driving aids and safety features to keep its occupants as safe as possible no matter the cost. Some of the highlighted active and passive safety features expected to be included in the 2021 Hyundai Palisade are:
Sharing the same platform between the two, the Kia Telluride is very similar to the Palisade, be it the powertrain, interior space, price, and the available features list. But the 2021 Palisade beats the Telluride in terms of available standard bells and whistles in the higher trims.
Even the pricing is neck-on-neck with the 2021 Hyundai Palisade starting with an MSRP of $32,535 and Kia Telluride coming in at $31,990 and so it all boils down to your personal preference at the end of the day.
Overall the most significant SUV in the competition with the longest wheelbase in the segment, the 2021 Chevy Traverse, is the aptest competitor to the 2021 Hyundai Palisade with its segment-best spacious cabin space. It also has the most powerful engine of the bunch with supremely impressive performance figures for a car its size.
Moreover, when it comes to outright acceleration figures, the 2021 Palisade falls short of the 2021 Traverse as its heightened performance figures give it a 0-60 mph time of 6.9 seconds as opposed to the Palisade's 7.2 seconds. Now having said that, the Chevrolet Traverse falls behind the Hyundai when it comes to the overall build quality and available features list.
Although there are other similarly capable SUVs out there in the market, the Hyundai Palisade has its quirks and features that set it apart from the other cars in the segment and helps it hold its value for money factor.
Overall to end things on a high note, with the excellent build quality, fit and finish levels, stylish exterior, well-appointed interior, and a low depreciation rate, you won’t go wrong with the Hyundai Palisade anytime soon.
