The 2021 Jeep Renegade comes packed with a lot of features as well as a lot of trims to suit your needs. It focuses quite a lot on its off-roading capabilities which keeps alive Jeep’s age-old philosophy of developing an SUV that encourages you to not take the beaten path.
The 2021 Jeep Renegade is a carryforward model and does not get many changes from the 2020 Jeep Renegade. Although, Jeep has amped up the safety features list of the Renegade as this SUV gets driver-assistance highlights such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and much more as standard for the new model year. Moreover, Jeep has also introduced two new trims for the 2021 Renegade, namely - 80th Anniversary Edition and Islander.
The increased number of standard safety features has swelled up the price of the 2021 Jeep Renegade. The prices of the 2021 Jeep Renegade starts from $22,850 for the base Sport trim which is around $200 more than its predecessor. For leasing consider the 2021 Jeep Renegade to cost you around $209 per month, for 36 months, with $3799 rounded off at signing.
Jeep offers the 2021 Renegade SUV in many trims to suit your needs. While Jeep has not made any major changes to the 2021 mode, it has added some new trims to keep the excitement alive. The Renegade is offered in a total of seven trims namely, Sport, Jeepster, Latitude, Upland, Islander, Limited, and the Trailhawk. There is eighth trim as well on offer which Jeep has added this year called the 80th Anniversary addition. It offers Granite Crystal 19-inch wheels, trim-specific badging, and distinct interior appointments. Another trim added this year is the Islander which gets silver 19-inch rims, passive hands-free entry, panoramic sunroof, and special island-themed hood decal.
The Jeep Renegade does not classify its trims in a typical fashion. The trims are not just divided on the basis of features they offer but also on the basis of your lifestyle. The Trailhawk trim for example is for those who want to explore beyond the beaten path while the Limited trim offers the best in terms of looks as well as features.

As can be seen from the trim data, the Jeep Renegade provides a trim for anyone and everyone. As the trims are based on utility and needs, it is difficult to suggest a single trim for everyone. However, the Latitude trim of the Renegade strikes the best balance between price and feature. If you are looking for an off-roader then we strongly recommend you stick with the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk.
"It's a good thing that Jeep owners enjoy raw experiences, because there is no polish to the Renegade's standard four-cylinder engine." - Car and Driver
The 2021 Jeep Renegade SUV is offered with two engine options - a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated inline-4 and a 1.3L turbocharged inline-4. The base 2.4L engine is capable of churning out 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque which is not quite a lot for an off-road-focused SUV. This engine is quite capable of handling the city chores and will keep you satisfied if you plan on using it as your daily machine.
The other engine available is the optional 1.3 liters four-cylinder unit which produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be had for an extra price but produces lesser horsepower than the standard engine. The extra torque helps it attain better driveability off the road. However, this engine is not a game-changer but shall suffice for most of your needs. Both the engines come mated to a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission which performs as it should.

The 2021 model of the Jeep Renegade does not provide any updates in terms of performance when compared to the 2020 model. However, it is still the most powerful option in this comparison. The Ford Escape with its 181 hp 1.5L turbo inline-3 engine trails the Renegade in terms of power and coming very close to it in terms of torque figure. The 2021 Honda HR-V rakes in the third spot with 170 horses, while the Mazda CX-3 is the least powerful rival in the segment.
The 2021 Jeep Renegade is not really made for going fast which is shown and proven with its 0-60 mph timings. The 2021 Jeep Renegade takes 9 seconds to go from 0-60 mph with its 1.3-liter turbocharged unit. As you would have guessed, the standard engine would be slower but only but a very small margin.
The Ford Escape is the quickest of the lot, but the Renegade isn't that far behind. The Mazda does seem to be competitive despite the huge disadvantage in terms of power because it is extremely light when compared to its competitors.
Since its inception, the Jeep Renegade has never been known for its fuel economy. With no changes done in terms of the engine department, the 2021 model offers the same MPG figures as the 2020 model. The 2021 Jeep Renegade with its base 2.4L engine returns city/highway/combined mpg ratings of 22/30/25. Add the optional AWD drivetrain to the mix and the mpg figures drop to 21/29/24.
The heavier weight of the SUV works against it in this aspect and even the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine does not offer a lot of improvement. The optional 1.3L engine of the Jeep Renegade provides a city/highway/combined mpg ratings of 26/23/29. The 2021 Jeep Renegade gets a fuel tank capacity of 12.7-gallons.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Mazda CX-3's mpg figures take the cake. Its lighter weight not only helps it in attaining better acceleration but also fuel efficiency. The 2021 Ford Escape's fuel economy is impressive as well.
"The Renegade's interior is open and roomy with plenty of headroom and shoulder room, even with the optional panoramic sunroof." - Edmunds
As the Jeep Renegade is more inclined towards being an off-roader its cabin offers many off-roading features. You get all-season floor mats along with washable upholstery material with many of its trims. The 2021 Jeep Renegade's interior is full of unique elements as well as hidden easter eggs.
The quality of materials used is good for the most part with some areas getting soft-touch plastics. The quality of the upholstery is quite good as well and you have an option to choose between leather or cloth. However, the Renegade certainly needs more insulation materials as once you cross 70 mpg. The wind noise, as well as the tire noise, creep into the cabin and it gets quite noisy on the inside.
In terms of seating, the front two seats provide excellent support for your lower back as well as the under-thigh. You get a commanding view of the road up ahead and the seats keep you in your place with adequate bolstering. Once you step into the rear, however, it’s a completely different or rather opposite story. The rear seats do not provide much legroom and taller passengers will find it difficult to be seated in them.

The cabin of the Renegade does not offer a lot of storage space and you do get some cubbies to store your knick-knacks. Where it really lacks behind its rivals is in terms of the cargo space which at 18.5 cubic feet does not really offer much. However, the rear seats fold down to liberate a healthy 50.8 cubic feet of space. The other cars in its segment just offer a more comfortable and spacious cabin to their passengers.
Jeep has updated the standard infotainment touchscreen size from 5 inches to 7 inches with the Renegade. Thus you get a 7-inch infotainment display that offers Jeep’s Uconnect interface. There is also an option to opt for a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen with higher trims.
Regardless of the screen size, the 2021 Jeep Renegade will get FCA's UConnect 4 infotainment software. The Uconnect infotainment system is one of the most user-friendly infotainment arrangements available in the market. It responds quickly to commands and it is easy to navigate through the menu.
Some of the most prominent infotainment features of the 2021 Jeep Renegade are:
"The Renegade grafts all the familiar Jeep shapes to a subcompact crossover shape without any of the penalties." - TheCarConnection
The 2021 Jeep Renegade is a lot less radical in terms of design than its bigger siblings. It offers a subtle yet interesting look which wants to suggest to you that it is an off-roader with its boxy design. Its looks are clearly inspired by the Wrangler and it gets easter eggs on the outside as well.
At the front, you get the signature seven-slot grille with round headlights which try to give it a bold stance. On the sides, there are boxy lines and squared wheel arches which give it a tall profile. At the rear, you get a plainer and simple design with square taillights and a black bumper. Overall, there is no getting away from the fact that it is a small SUV that tries to offer funky styling and design cues.

The Jeep Renegade is certainly not the longest SUV in its class but it is undoubtedly the widest. It is also the highest SUV in its class, thanks to its ground clearance and boxy design. If you are looking for the best road presence, you will get it with the Ford Escape. In terms of physical dimensions, the Escape is the biggest SUV here.
The most noticeable change that the 2021 model of the Jeep Renegade has received is in terms of its safety. Jeep has made many driver’s assistance features as standard on the 2021 Renegade. The 2021 Jeep Renegade gets driver-assistance features such as blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and much more as standard, which was formerly optional.
Build quality is one of the major aspects, crash test agencies like the NHTSA and the IIHS look for when testing the vehicle. And because Jeep has had a pretty good reputation when it comes to the build quality of its cars, the 2020 Jeep Renegade has received a fairly respectable 4 stars out of 5 from the NHTSA, when it was put through a wall, thus further assuring the customers that the Renegade is totally safe. We expect these test results to be carried forward for the year 2021 as well.
Some of the most eminent standard safety features of the 2021 Jeep Renegade are:
The Honda HR-V is quite a popular choice in its segment and it is not difficult to see why. It offers unmatched reliability of a Japanese motor along with an extensive features list. In comparison to the Renegade, the HR-V offers better fuel efficiency as well as a more comfortable ride.
Whereas the Renegade clearly wins is in terms of off-road capabilities. Apart from that, the Honda HR-V's price is comparatively cheaper than that of the Renegade. Moreover, the HR-V is also less expensive to maintain than the Jeep Renegade.
The Ford Escape is another subcompact SUV that has been in the game for quite some time now. It offers quite an extensive features list along with excellent cabin quality. It gets Ford’s SYNC infotainment system which is certainly the best in the business along with a spacious cabin.
In terms of fuel efficiency and power output, the Ford Escape outshines the Renegade. The Ford Escape is a bigger car and offers better interior and cargo space but the Renegade offers an unconventional look whereas the Ford looks a bit too mainstream.
The 2021 Jeep Renegade SUV sets the bar high when it comes to an off-road capable sub-compact SUV. Jeep has given the Renegade everything you can expect from a car in its segment with top-notch safety features. With the 2021 model more of these features have been made standard which makes the lower trims safer for the driver.
However, the biggest disadvantage of the Renegade is its price, especially with the lower trims as the rivals offer a better value for money. Nonetheless, if you are looking for a sub-compact SUV that offers a rugged look along with some good off-road capabilities, the Jeep Renegade should be at the top of your shopping list.
