Overall Rating
The 2021 Kia Seltos is a totally new car based on the Hyundai Kona platform. Available for sale in 5 trims- LX, S, EX, S Turbo, SX Turbo, the prices start from $21,990. The interior has space to seat 5 people and has upscale materials used. The standard trims are powered by a 145 hp 2.0L I-4 engine while the Turbo trims get a 175 hp 1.6L turbocharged I-4. There are a total of 12 colors on offer, and the ride retains Kia's reliable streak with no problems reported so far.
The latest entry in the subcompact SUV segment, the stylish new 2021 Kia Seltos is larger than most rivals and is underpinned with same platform as Hyundai Kona. With a minor suspension lift, Seltos looks like a conventional SUV and proves that you don't have to spend a lot of money for function, space, performance, and fashion. Inside, premium-feeling materials and all desired options make it more valuable than the base price of $21,990. The Seltos's cabin is spacious enough for four adults and provides 62.8 cubic feet of cargo space, which is more than most other extra-small SUVs offer. The 2021 Seltos is available with a choice between two powertrains - base 146-horsepower engine or a more powerful turbocharged engine good for 175 hp with the top-range S Turbo and SX Turbo trims.
Kia takes an unusual approach to the Seltos' base price of $21,900. You can choose either entry-level LX with fewer features but with standard all-wheel-drive (AWD), or you choose S with more equipment but with front-wheel drive (FWD) at same base price. All other 2021 Seltos trims are only available with standard AWD. The Seltos provides even more value than Kia's class-leading warranty. The Kia Seltos is a perfect value-for-money bargain, the lease deals also start dirt cheap at $189/month after a downpayment of $2,699. All set to take the brand's value to new heights, the 2021 Kia Seltos is available two-tone roof and stacked headlight design which help it stand out from other extra-small SUVs. It faces competition from the Honda HR-V, the Chevrolet Trax, and its own corporate cousin, the Hyundai Kona.
All of the trims of the 2021 Kia Seltos are feature-packed, however, the EX trim strikes the right balance between price and features. It packs most of the features of the upper trims and yet comes with some of the best ones of the moniker at a lower price. But if you don't want to settle for anything less than the best, then the SX Turbo trim is the one to pick.

All of the trims of the 2021 Kia Seltos are feature-packed, however, the EX trim strikes the right balance between price, features, and value. Though it has the 145 hp 2.0-liter engine, the $25,390 Seltos EX offers excellent value for money with nearly all of the same features as the top-of-the-range SX Turbo. It is the only model which gets a standard sunroof along with a cabin that is plush and loaded with standard features.
There is no surprise that the 2021 Seltos hasn't faced any recalls as yet, but Kia offers a class-leading warranty of five years or 60,000 miles and a drivetrain warranty of ten years or 100,000 miles. Check out the J.D. Power's rating and other information like recalls for the 2021 Kia Seltos.

The Seltos offers a firm but mostly smooth ride and handling is sharp for an SUV and it's far more entertaining and composed than rivals.- CarAndDriver
The new Kia Seltos is available with two four-cylinder engines, a 2.0L naturally aspirated with a CVT or a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine with 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. Shared with the Hyundai Kona and the Kia Forte, Seltos's standard 2.0-liter motor produces perfectly adequate 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. However, the turbo Seltos models offer 175 hp and class-leading 195 lb-ft of torque to all-wheels through a snappy 7-speed DCT.
The response was definitely positive as far as CVTs go. The S Turbo and SX Turbo trims enjoy rather a torquey drive with all of 195 lb-ft kickings in from as low as 1,500 rpm. The base 2021 Seltos 0-60 mph run in 10.3 seconds is significantly behind the Mazda CX-30's figures. Don't be disappointed, the 1.6-liter turbo vastly improves the overall performance. The Seltos Turbo got to 60 mph from a standstill in just 7.3 seconds, making it a little more eager than most of its rivals.
You should remember that the S trim is the only Seltos available in front-wheel drive (FWD) while all other Seltos trims come with all-wheel drive (AWD) standard. Here’s a bonus, and another reason to get an AWD Seltos – an independent rear suspension replaces a torsion beam suspension, which means better ride and handling. Compared to other compact SUVs, the Hyundai Kona makes more power while the Honda HR-V makes 141 hp, just 5 hp less. The Chevy Trax has a smaller 1.4L turbocharged engine but makes 138 horsepower only, quite a bit lesser than the Seltos.

While the Seltos driving range figures may vary slightly according to configurations, they excel overall.- CarBuzz
The official MPG figures are out for the 2021 Seltos and are quite promising. The FWD Seltos returns EPA estimated 29 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and a combined 31 mpg. Opt for the AWD system with the base 2.0L engine and gas mileage reduces to 27 mpg in the city, 31 mpg out on the highway, and a combined 29 mpg. The smaller but more powerful turbocharged engine sips more fuel.
The Turbo Seltos trims return 25 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg combined. All models use an engine start/stop system that cuts engine power at idle to save fuel. Also, All Seltos models come with a 13.2-gallon fuel tank which gives you an overall driving range from 382 miles to 409 miles depending on the drivetrain. The S Turbo and SX Turbo combined driving range drops to 356 miles from a full tank of gas. Compared to the competition, the Honda HR-V and Hyundai Kona give a better-combined range of 396 miles. The Chevrolet Trax has the lowest mpg figures but has a bigger 14.0-gallon fuel tank allowing for better range.

The Seltos emphasizes Kia's ideology of providing deluxe interiors at an affordable price point with its excellently designed cabin.- CarBuzz
Inside, the compact Kia Seltos offers a good amount of space. The 2-row, five-passenger SUV boasts a large 62.8 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded. The seating position is more in line with SUVs while the Seltos has excellent rear-seat legroom rated at 38 inches, it's like a full-size sedan. For that perfect driving position, the steering gets a tilt and telescopic adjustability too. The Kia's cabin feels upscale and airy. It scores better than its rivals when it comes to the space to move around and overall practicality.
The 2021 Seltos uses premium quality materials, much better than the Kona. Just like the new Hyundai and Kia cars, the Seltos feels more European in the way it is built. The dashboard gets hard plastics on the top and soft-touch leather padding on the lower side. As standard, the color scheme is all black but the top-spec SX Turbo can be specced with a part black and part brown SOFINO package that looks ultra-premium. Talking about the dash, it is dominated by an 8-inch infotainment screen, climate control settings, and a few cubby spaces at the bottom. It is followed by the center console that further houses more storage spaces and the gear shifter.
All the Seltos trims except the SX Turbo come with an 8-inch touchscreen unit paired with a 6-speaker sound system. The top-range trim has a bigger 10.25-inch UVO Link touchscreen and a 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, Navigation, Voice Control, and many other features come standard. The interface is easy and straightforward and does not leave any margin for error.
The Seltos boasts a large trunk and plenty of cargo space. The Seltos has a 26.6 cubic foot cargo space, which is slightly larger than the rivals including Honda HR-V's 24.3 cubes in FWD guise. It surpasses the Hyundai Kona and Trax which offer 19.2 and 18.7 cu.ft., respectively..
The same order is followed when total cargo volume numbers are taken into account. The interior storage options re deent but not exceptional. Small door pockets will allow for a small water bottle and a smartphone, and the storage bin in the middle console is diminutive. A decently-sized glovebox is available as well.

Kia has crafted an appealing SUV in the new 2021 Seltos - J. D. Power
The all-new 2021 Seltos shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Kona and its sibling, the Kia Soul. In the Kia lineup, the Seltos slots right in the middle of the Soul and the Sportage. In terms of design, it features the iconic tiger-nose grille but with a twist. The mid-spec EX and the top-spec SX Turbo trims get knurled chrome finishing around the grille along with extended LED stripes that stand out from the crowd. Standing tall at 64.2-inches, it also rides high with a ground clearance of 7.3-inches which aids in off-roading performance.
In the sea of crossover SUVs out on the road, the Kia Seltos manages to look distinctive and supremely attractive, to say the least. The side profile looks interesting with the black contrasting roof. The 18-inch machined alloy wheels come into full display and demand attention. The meticulous attention to detail is top-notch and the wheels get red inserts around the lug nuts to make it look even more sporty. At the back, the LED taillights welcome you. The design is contemporary, however, the designers at Kia added a fake "dual-exhaust" at the back to make it seem sporty.
The AWD trim gets independent suspension at the rear and a raised ride height of 7.3 inches which is more than any of the sub-compact SUVs in this comparison. The bigger dimensions of Seltos open up a ton of room on the inside. Compared to its adversaries, the Kia Seltos curb weight ranges from 2,948 to 3,317 pounds. The 2021 Kona is considerably smaller in all regards despite sharing the platform with the Seltos. The Honda HR-V is again the closest rival, dimensionally.
Kia offers a 12-color palette for the Seltos, but some colors are only accessible on certain trims. For the base model, four shades that include Cherry Black, Snow White Pearl, Steel Gray, and Neptune Blue are available to choose from. The S and S Turbo are available in the same hues as the LX, but add five more options inclusive of Gravity Gray, Mars Orange, and a choice between three two-tone options including Dark Ocean Blue with a Clear White roof, Starbright Yellow with Cherry Black roof, and Clear White with Cherry Black roof. Moving to the premium EX, the same palette from the base model extends with more options including Gravity Gray and Dark Ocean Blue. The top-range SX Turbo trim exclusively adds a Dark Ocean Blue and Cherry Black roof combination, along with Starbright Yellow. Notably, the Cherry Black, Snow White Pearl, and combination hues cost an additional $345.

Every 2021 Kia Seltos except the base LX trim gets a lot of safety equipment.- MotorTrend
The 2021 Kia Seltos earns a near-perfect 4-star rating from the NHTSA. The IIHS has awarded the Seltos with its 2021 Top Safety Pick award and overall "Good" crash-test ratings, which means the all-new Seltos is a safe compact SUV. Every 2021 Seltos apart from the base LX includes standard forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assistance, a driver inattention warning system, and automatic high beams.
The EX, S Turbo, and SX Turbo add blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warnings. The SX Turbo further benefits from the adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability and an enhanced automatic emergency braking system that includes cyclist detection. The following are the noteworthy safety features that the 2021 Kia Seltos comes with:
Learn how the Safety Equipment in 2021 Kia Seltos Work >>
The 2021 Hyundai Kona and the Kia Seltos are cousins and share a ton of DNA. The platform, the engine, and the gearbox, and even AWD system are shared among these two. With that said, the Kona is noticeably smaller than the Seltos and thus loses out on the practicality and usability and comes ahead as more of a hatchback rather than a crossover SUV. Looks are totally subjective, but it’s the Seltos that manages to attract more attention and looks more like an SUV.
The smallest crossover SUV from Honda, the 2021 HR-V has been on sale for quite some time and comes the closest to the Kia Seltos in terms of usable room on the inside. Being based on the Honda Fit, the HR-V also gets a set of magic seats at the back for better practicality but loses out on outright cargo capacity. Seltos, on the other hand, gets a lot more powertrain options to choose from and certainly feels more sporty and more off-road capable.
The 2021 Chevrolet Trax is an aging SUV and is one of the most forgettable SUVs in an ever-growing and happening subcompact SUV segment. It is comfy and comes with a ton of features on the inside but that’s it. Under the hood, the small turbocharged engine disappoints and feels painfully sluggish. When compared to the new entrants like the 2021 Kia Seltos, the Chevy Trax feels humdrum and mundane.
The 2021 Seltos is a well-rounded compact crossover/SUV with immense value. It may not be the most eager competitor but it bests nearly all its rivals by offering an expansive cargo room, roomy seating, and a quality interior. This crossover gets good fuel economy and comes with lots of tech and an easy-to-use infotainment system. The higher trims of Seltos only modestly expensive than the base trim, but they come with a lot more standard features and safety equipment. The fully-loaded SX Turbo costs under $28,000 and offers a premium look and feel apart from 195 lb-ft torque.
