The Kia Seltos has gotten more generous with standard features for the 2022 model- Kelly Blue Book

The 2022 Seltos will come with five trim levels including a new Nightfall Edition trim slotting below top-range SX, replacing the last year's S Turbo trim. Prices begin from $22,590 for the base LX trim and it goes all the way up to $28,090 for the SX trim. Add to that a $1,175 destination fee. Only the S trim is exclusively available in the FWD drivetrain while the AWD system is standard on other trims. 

What makes the all-new Nightfall Edition trim special is its 18-inch matte black alloy wheels, a black grille, black roof rails, and rugged side sills. Not many additional features are available in the Seltos as all the creature comforts and safety features are distributed to each trim level according to their price tags. Notably, heated front seats come as a standard offering with the S AWD model.

 All of the trims of the 2021 Kia Seltos are feature-packed, however, the EX trim strikes the right balance between price, features, and value. It is the only model which gets a standard sunroof along with a cabin that is plush and loaded with standard features. This model also adds wireless charging, a 10-way power driver's seat, and leatherette upholstery.

The Seltos rides more softly than expected, with noticable body lean in corners- The Car Connection

Kia offers the 2022 Seltos with two different engines. A 2.0L inline-4 is the base engine that makes 146 hp and 132 lb-ft. of torque. This engine is mated to a CVT transmission while you can choose either FWD or AWD configuration. The Nightfall Edition and SX trim get a 1.6L turbo-4 engine paired with a 7-speed DCT. It is capable of churning out 175 hp and 195 lb-ft. of torque. 

Driving the Seltos almost feels like driving a hatchback and its compact dimensions make it extremely flickable and maneuverable around the city traffic and tight corners. However, there is a lot of body lean. The steering is accurate and nicely weighted but lacks proper feedback. The ride quality is a bit firm but it is acceptable on most road surfaces. On broken pavements, get ready for a bumpy ride. 

The Seltos is not a performer but the base engine is capable of city driving. It can dash to 60 MPH on the speedo in about 9.3 seconds and does the quarter-mile lap in 17.1 seconds. The turbocharged engine can do the same stunt in 6.6 seconds thanks to the DCT transmission. The braking system is tuned to be quick and responsive while in action. It takes 120 feet while braking from 60 MPH. 

The Mazda CX-30's base engine is too powerful while its optional engine can easily beat most of its competitors in terms of performance. Although the Hyundai Kona houses the same engine as its cousin, its tidier dimensions help it perform better on the road. On the other hand, the Honda HR-V is a sluggish performer in this segment.

The Seltos sips less fuel in front-drive form- The Car Connection

In the crossover segment, fuel economy is an important criterion for shoppers, and the Kia Seltos excels in this regard. According to the EPA, it returns 29 MPG in the city, 35 MPG on the highway, and 31 MPG combined. Choosing AWD system dips economy by 2 MPG in each case. The fuel estimates are really good for the class.

Fuel-conscious buyers should consider this engine. The turbocharged engine with a standard AWD system is rated at 25 MPG in the city, 30 MPG on the highway, and 27 MPG combined. With a tank capacity of 13.2 gallons, the Seltos has a combined range of 409 miles with the base engine while the turbocharged engine can deliver up to 356 miles. 

The Hyundai Kona is slightly better than its corporate cousin in terms of economy. The extra horses that the Mazda CX-30 makes resulted in lower fuel economy than its rivals. The Honda HR-V's fuel ratings are very similar to the Seltos, therefore giving a good challenge in terms of fuel economy.

The Seltos's interior is simple, practical, and roomy-Edmunds

The interior of the Kia Seltos interior is already top-notch and feels opulent in this class. The quality of plastics and the upholstery is hands down the best in the competition. Kia Seltos feels very plush on the inside and the car on the whole just feels like it is a segment above it. The top-spec SX trim now gets a flat-bottom steering wheel as standard fitment. The front seats are pretty nice and snug and offer good support.

The seats have just the right amount of cushioning and also offer a good amount of under-thigh support. The back seats are very supportive and the recline angle of the seats offers a very comfortable seating posture. There are tonnes of passenger space in both rows. Fitting three broad-framed adults on the back might be a bit of a squeeze but three average-sized adults will have no problem sitting in whatsoever. 

In terms of cargo capacity, the Seltos offers class-leading cargo storage of 26.6 cu-ft, which is 2 cu-ft more than even the HR-V's cargo space. Fold the rear seat to expose 62.8 cu-ft., which is just excellent for the subcompact SUV segment. Only the entry-level LX trim comes with an 8-inch touchscreen while the rest of the lineup upgrades to a new larger 10.25-inch touchscreen with an 8-speaker Bose sound system. 

Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard connectivity features. The UVO infotainment system has a straightforward interface and organized menus. The larger screen has an integrated navigation system and also supports split-screen functionality. The touchscreen doesn't lag and gives the best user experience. A 6-speaker stereo is standard on most models. Some other cabin features are:

The 2022 Kia Seltos does not get any changes to its exterior apart from the ones on the Nightfall Edition that adds a blacked-out exterior trim and 18-inch black wheels. Even if the Seltos has pretty compact dimensions, it looks butch and beefy on the outside despite its boxy SUV shape. It has a wide signature tiger-nose grille that looks striking with swept-out LED headlights to add to the car’s aggressive fascia. The car sits on 17-inch alloy wheels, giving it a nice tall stance and a commanding street presence. 

On the side, the car has large squared-off windows which again help in imparting it a rugged SUV look and Kia has kept it clean and simple in this area. At the back, the car gets fake dual exhaust tips along with a fake rear skid plate which again gives it a more SUV-ish impression. Its high ground clearance is useful for some mild off-roading adventures as well. The Seltos on the whole is a good-looking car, and even though it may not turn many heads, it certainly is an attention seeker. 

The tidy proportions of the Hyundai Kona help it to perform better than its corporate cousin on the road. Also, it is quite easy to maneuver at tight parking lots. The Mazda CX-30 is a bulky vehicle and it sits above the Seltos at 8 inches. The Honda HR-V's wheelbase is a bit shorter and yet, its cabin is spacious. Some other prominent exterior features are:

The 2022 Kia Seltos earned a 4-star safety rating in the crash tests conducted by the NHTSA and the second-highest 'Top Safety Pick' rating by the IIHS. That's because it earned 'Good' ratings in all six crash tests and a 'Superior' rating for the front crash prevention. Therefore, the Seltos is a safe commuter for passengers.

The Honda HR-V is the smallest crossover from the Japanese carmaker. It has been on sale for a long time and offers sufficient room for the occupants. The HR-V has limited standard features and an underpowered engine but both SUVs offer good safety features. However, the Seltos offers better engine options compared to the HR-V. The HR-V is based on the Honda Fit hatchback, so you can expect a set of good Honda magic seats and practicality. 

2022 Kia Seltos vs 2022 Mazda CX-30

The Mazda CX-30 is highly acknowledged for its spirited handling and well-mannered ride quality. Its engine lineup is powerful, so acceleration is zippy.
