In terms of engine and power, Armada is a carryover model of the 2020 version. The car is powered by the same engine, which is the 5.6-liter direct injection gasoline V8 engine, and is capable of pumping out a better 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque in comparison to the outgoing 2020 model, which produced a lower 390 hp and 394 lb-ft of torque.

The transmission duties are also handled by the same 7-speed automatic transmission, which is a torque converter unit. This transmission offers manual mode and multiple transmission modes too, all of which equates to a decent driving experience. This full-size SUV comes in RWD disguise as standard, however, a 4WD version is available for an additional $3,000 for all four trims.

Nissan’s 5.6-liter V8 engine allows the Armada to sprint from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds, however, this mark is reached by the AWD drivetrain option. Coming to the RWD drivetrain option the car takes 6.4 seconds to do the same. In comparison, all the competitors like 2021 Toyota Sequoia, 2021 Ford Expedition, and 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe did the same 0-60 mph feat in a higher 6.5 seconds, 6.2 seconds, and 7.2 seconds, respectively.

The 2021 Nissan Armada’s big brake rotors are the reason behind its amazing braking performance. All the competitions of the Armada came out with a stopping distance of above 120 feet, whereas the Armada did it in an impressive 115 feet. Along with that, the suspension is well-tuned to handle low speeds as well as high speeds. The steering feedback was also pretty decent for an SUV. However, we felt that the high-speed stability was not up to the mark for the Armada.

With a 5.6-liter V8 and over 5,500 lbs of curb weight on offer, the 2021 Nissan Armada is far from a fuel-efficient offering. The Nissan Armada returned an EPA figure of 14/19/16 mpg for the RWD variant and 13/18/15 mpg for the 4WD drivetrain. However, the Armada comes with a massive fuel tank of 26 gallons capacity. This makes the AWD Armada go at least 390 miles under mixed driving conditions and the RWD variant goes up to 416 miles in the same situation.

However, the 7-speed torque converter automatic transmission on offer with the 2021 Nissan Armada comes with multiple driving modes. If you dial the car into ECO or Normal mode, you could expect a slightly better figure when it comes to gas mileage on offer. 

One of the Armada’s major rivals, the Toyota Sequoia is even worse in the fuel economy section. However, the Ford Expedition tops the list due to the best in class combined gas mileage of 19 mpg, which is followed by the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe with 18 mpg.

Stepping into the Armada there is a distinctly old-school feel that is quite homely and luxurious at the same time. We adore the three colors on offer with the 2021 Armada, which are quilted almond, quilted espresso brown, and quilted black. The seats are draped in rich leather and feels quite plush and well padded, making it a great freeway cruiser. Along with that, there are many optional features on offer as well, like illuminated kickplates for $390, carpeted floor mats for an additional $200, and many more too. This SUV also comes standard with many features like a tri-zone entertainment system, wooden and leather inserts on the dashboard, a power liftgate, and many more too.

This car has a total seating capacity of 8 people, however, if one goes for the captain’s seat package the seating reduces to 7. Though the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe and the 2021 Ford Expedition offered a more spacious first row, second row, and third-row, the 2021 Armada managed to come out as a more spacious offering than the Toyota Sequoia. Even when it comes to cargo space on offer, the 2021 Expedition turned out to be the best of the lot with 20.9 cubic feet of space, which is followed by the Sequoia with 19.9 cubic feet. The Armada received a slightly lower 16.5 cubic feet.

The 2021 Nissan Armada comes with a Nissan Connect infotainment system which gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display with all the regular features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, navigation, and many more coming as standard. This system is also highly intuitive to use with large touch icons on offer coupled with impressive viewing angles and display quality. The lags and stutters on offer were also quite minimal. The audio is handled by a 13-speaker Bose system, which gave out punchy bass and clear high-frequency notes.

The 2021 Nissan Armada comes with a revamped exterior design, especially with the squarer front end with all-LED headlamps coupled with neatly integrated LED DRLs. The lowest SV and SL trims, which comes at an MSRP of $47,100 and $51,900, also receives many class-leading exterior features like 20" machine-finished alloy wheels, all-LED lights, and 7 different color palettes to choose from. Additional options like exterior lighting, Yakima accessories, hatch tent, etc are also available for an MSRP of less than $500 for the most.

Most of the full-size SUVs of the segment like the 2021 Ford Expedition, 2021 Toyota Sequoia, and 2021 Nissan Armada comes at a similar width of 79.9". However, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe came out with the highest width of 80.5". However, when it comes to the curb weight and length on offer, the 2021 Armada turned out to be one of the highest with 5,672 lbs and 208.9", respectively.

Though the 2021 Nissan Armada hasn't been crash-tested by the coveted testing organizations like NHTSA and IIHS yet, the outgoing 2020 moniker received a decent 4-star overall crash safety rating in the NHTSA's crash test. 2021 Nissan Armada vs 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

With the 2021 Nissan Armada edging out the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe in terms of the performance on offer along with a more refined cabin, the Tahoe does manage to look like an inferior product. With a base price of $48,000 for the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, it is only $900 cheaper than the Armada too. However, the Tahoe offers more space to the passengers. Along with that, it also offers better high-speed stability in comparison to the Armada.

2021 Nissan Armada vs 2021 Ford Expedition

Coming in at a price tag of $52,810 for the base Ford Expedition, it is more expensive than the Armada and still offers a lower performance rating too. However, the turbocharged V6 motor in the Expedition is quite impressive when it comes to in-gear acceleration and is unmatched by the naturally aspirated V8 on the Armada. Along with that, the Expedition is more space on the inside, is loaded with features and tech, and offers the highest cargo space too.

2021 Nissan Armada vs 2021 Toyota Sequoia

The 2021 Toyota Sequoia ticks many boxes for a spacious full-size family SUV. It has got enough grunt on offer from its V8 motor. Along with that, it is also decently loaded with interior and safety features too. However, this SUV is a disappointment when it comes to the interior space on offer, making it the worst of the segment. The SUV also feels quite old and archaic since it is one of the oldest moniker on sale in the United States that is in continuous production. Coming at a base price of $49,980, the 2021 Sequoia is also more expensive than the Armada.

With an impressive powertrain on offer that offers quick acceleration as well as smooth and refined cruising capabilities on the freeways, the 2021 Armada is surely one of the best tools for cross-country road trips. Along with that, this full-size SUV also gave excellent interior space and infotainment, making it furthermore appealing to family buyers. Sure, it is not the most fuel-efficient offering out there.
