Used 2021 Tesla Model Y Long Range for sale

The 2021 Tesla Model Y is offered in two configurations namely, Long Range and Performance. The 2021 Tesla Model Y is available for sale with an updated base MSRP of $53,190 for the Long Range trim and goes all the way to $62,190 for the Performance trim. Earlier the same was priced at $49,990 and $59,990 respectively. The 2021 Tesla Model Y retains the same dual motor setup for both the trims and gets AWD as standard.

But the good news is that since it's electric, the 2021 Model Y qualifies for tax benefits and you can have up to $6,300 waived off from the MSRP in long-term ownership. The 2021 Tesla Model Y retains all the interior and infotainment features like a 15" touchscreen infotainment system, a 15-speaker premium audio system, etc. While on the exterior you get 19" alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights with LED DRLs, etc. 

This mid-size EV SUV can also be had with the 7-seater configuration for an extra cost of $3,000. Other optional features include a tow hitch for $1,000, a black and white interior layout for $1,000, and full self-driving capabilities for $10,000 extra. The 20-inch induction wheels will set you back by another $2,000

While both the trim configurations strike the perfect balance for being a value for money proposition, the Long Range trim of the 2021 Tesla Model Y is the one to pick.

Available for sale at an MSRP of $53,190, the 2021 Model Y Long Range offers all the safety features and technology as standard without having to compromise on anything. There is enough performance to outrun almost all similarly priced vehicles on the road today. The $1,000 Deep Blue Metallic color would be worth the investment as it looks extremely striking on the streets.

The 2021 Tesla Model Y comes with the same dual motor setup as all other Tesla cars in two stages of tune.

You get a Synchronous AC liquid-cooled motor of 272 hp in the front and an AC induction motor of 112 hp in the rear as standard fitment. The combined output from the system in the Long Range trim stands at 384 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. Since it's a dual-motor setup, it's an AWD setup by default. 

If you need more performance from the Model Y Performance trim, these figures go up to 456 hp and 497 lb-ft of torque. All this power is instantly accessible, unlike gas-powered vehicles, while the digital control of torque improves both handling and traction. Both the trims get the same single-speed direct-drive transmission setup. There was also a Standard Range model that has been removed from the company website, but Tesla states that buyers can specifically ask for it by visiting any Tesla dealerships. 

The 2021 Tesla Model Y Long-Range can sprint from 0-60 MPH in 4.4 seconds. The more powerful Model Y Performance does the same in 3.6 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.1 seconds. The top speed is limited to 136 MPH with the latter and opting for the Performance Upgrade package can bump it to 155 MPH. While standard Model Y does not get a tow rating, with optional Tow Hitch, the Model Y can tow 3,500 lbs. There's also the regenerative braking system that allows for one-pedal driving.

The Jaguar I-Pace is clearly the most powerful of this lineup and but is only as fast as the Model Y. That said, it loses out in the towing department where the Audi e-Tron shines the brightest. 

Only the Ford Mustang Mach-E is more affordable than the Tesla, but it too can't match up with the Model Y's performance.

The 2021 Tesla Model Y returns a whopping 127 MPGe in the city, 114 MPGe on the highway, and 121 MPGe combined as per the EPA. The performance model is rated for 116/106/111 MPGe in the city/highway/combined. Thankfully, the 2021 Tesla Model Y solves that problem with a 75kWh battery pack that offers an EPA-rated range of 326 miles after a full charge in the Long Range trim. 

However, the Performance trim of the 2021 Tesla Model Y offers 303 miles at full battery capacity. Along with that, there is the added benefit of the elaborate supercharger network that is automatically mapped out when you turn on the navigation. This means a minute charge from Tesla's Supercharger network will replenish 162 miles of range. At home 240-volt home charger will recharge the entire battery in about 10 hours while the 120-volt charger takes over 2 days. 

There is no competition for Tesla as far as driving range is compared, even with the smaller battery pack. The Jaguar employs the largest battery pack here and yet falls considerably short in this aspect. The Audi e-Tron has the shortest range here in spite of a pretty larger battery pack.

The interior of the 2021 Tesla Model Y has been carried over unchanged from 2020. It is clean and minimalist and yet manages to exude that luxurious vibe that all Tesla cars are now known for. There is no digital driver display, and only a single 15-inch screen is provided at the center of the dashboard. There's also a massive panoramic glass roof that makes the cabin feel even more airy and spacious, not to mention premium as well. 

The interior of the 2021 Tesla Model Y can be had in all black and black and white color combinations while the all-black interior is standard. There is comfortable seating for 5 people and can be extended to 7 people for an additional $3,000. The power front seats are standard and the second-row seats can fold flat with the push of a button in the trunk. Both the front and rear seats get heating functionality as standard too. 

Opting for the third row of seats brings the seating capacity to 7 passengers but it eats into the cargo space and isn't fit to accommodate adults. That said, the $3,000 upgrade also includes sliding second-row seats with easy rear-seat entry and thrid USB ports. Both the second and third-row seats get power-folding functionality with the switch in the trunk. 

The trunk is one of the largest at over 30 cu-ft and folding down the rear seats gets you a maximum cargo capacity of 68 cubic feet which is again best in class. This is enough to gobble all the luggage for the entire family for an outing on a long weekend to a holiday destination. 

In comparison, the interior of the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace is definitely short in size. It seems as if Jaguar has pursued luxury, and style more instead of providing interior space. The Audi e-Tron offers similar space as that of the Model Y. The Mustang Mach-E offers more room at the front but compromises in the rear-seat legroom. 

The biggest stand-out point for the cabin of the Tesla Model Y is the massive 15-inch infotainment screen at the center of the dashboard. 

The system is seamlessly embedded with all the other driver assistance features and driver display functions as well. All the connectivity features like Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, HD Radio, USB ports, etc are standard too, along with the navigation system. The audio quality on offer from the 15-speaker audio system is quite impressive for the segment too.

If you look closely at the 2021 Tesla Model Y, you will see how much it reminds you of the 2021 Tesla Model X. That said, there have been no changes made to the design this year as it was newly launched just last year. The larger front grille area and the smooth overall design also remind you of the Modle 3 as well. 

For the Long Range trim, you get 19-inch alloy wheels as the standard fitment while the Performance trim rides higher on 21-inch Uberturbine alloy wheels. One can also opt for the 20-inch induction wheels for another $2,000, but it drops the range by a few miles. It continues to be offered in the same 5 colors with Pearl White & Midnight Silver Metallic being offered as standard. The Deep Blue Metallic costs $1,000 more, $1,500 for Solid Black, while the Red Multi-Coat is offered for an addition of $2,000.  

Dimensionally, the 2021 Tesla Model Y is taller, wider, and slightly longer than the 2021 Model 3, and hence fits the SUV description well, despite an average ground clearance of 6.6-inch. The front view of the 2021 Tesla Model Y comes with a grille-less design with automatic LED headlamps with LED DRLs, a small air dam, and a macho design language. However, the Performance trim of the 2021 Tesla Model Y gets lowered suspension. However, the 21-inch alloy wheels look striking and the pop-out handle and the chrome bezel of the 2021 Model Y add a bit more zest to the design. 

In terms of dimensions, the Audi e-Tron is the largest in this comparison and also offers a marginally higher ground clearance than the Model Y. It also has the longest wheelbase as well but the Tesla clearly offers more cabin space. 

In terms of the exterior appeal, the Jaguar has the most appealing design. Tesla might be the most aerodynamic but rivals score better in the design aspect.

The 2021 Tesla Model Y procured a perfect 5-star safety rating in the crash tests from the NHTSA. Furthermore, the car on which it is based i.e. the Tesla Model 3 received the 2020 "Top Safety Pick+" title from the IIHS. Therefore, the Model Y should also come out with flying colors once it gets under the hammer.

The 2021 Model Y is loaded with many safety and driver assistance features too. As the icing on the top, you also get the Tesla Autopilot semi-autonomous driving system with the 2021 Tesla Model Y, while the full self-driving capabilities can be had by paying $10,000 extra. The other notable safety and driver-assistance features on the 2021 Tesla Model Y like 360-degree surround-view monitor, rear & forward-facing cameras, forward-facing radar with a range of 160m, etc are offered too.

2021 Tesla Model Y vs 2021 Audi e-Tron

The Audi e-Tron might have a higher towing prowess, it is slower off the mark, has a much shorter range, and does not have the advantage of a nationwide fast-charging network. The Model Y also has a marginally more spacious cabin with plenty of tech on offer. Although Audi has a much superior build quality and a lot of technology, Tesla is the one to go for all its perks. 

2021 Tesla Model Y vs 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

The Mustang Mach-E is much more affordable than most competitors and although it has a higher torque output than the Long Range Model Y, it is slower off the mark. It isn't that efficient has a shorter range and has lesser tech inside its cabin. There is also no autonomous driving on offer from Ford and hence the Tesla Model Y makes more sense and is worth the additional investment over the Mustang.

2021 Tesla Model Y vs 2021 Jaguar I-Pace

Available for sale at a base MSRP of $71,000, it also comes with a more powerful electric motor and updated specs for this year. However, when gauged against the 2021 Tesla Model Y, the 2021 Jaguar I-Pace seems to be slightly mediocre on most fronts and is also grossly more expensive. Add to that the superior range, Tesla Supercharger network, and the optional autonomous driving, make Tesla the preferred choice.
