Overall Rating
The 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT is an all-new luxury Sportback with much of the parts shared from its corporate sibling, the Porsche Taycan. With a near-flat underbody, road-ready 3 chamber air suspension, and Audi Sport’s ingenuity, the 2022 RS e-tron GT is definitely a worthy splurge for the well-heeled.
Well, the embargo has been lifted and we’re witnessing Audi’s foray into the luxury EV segment with their all-new 2022 Audi e-tron GT Sportback. While the premium EV sedan segment saw disruptions in the form of the Taycan outperforming the Tesla Model S, Audi has brought in their performance version. Dubbed the 2022 RS e-tron GT (a different approach to the RS nomenclature), this rather stylish fastback has a few tricks up its sleeve.

The 2022 Audi RS e-Tron GT is the latest inclusion to the brand's lineup. It plays on the brand's strength of luxury and performance and with an electric motor strapped to it under the hood, manages to deliver adequate efficiency as well. Carrying a price sticker of around $140,000, the RS e-Tron GT is one of the more expensive options in the segment, but it does come equipped with several bells and whistles that justify its MSRP. As standard, it gets features like a Bang and Olufsen Surround Sound system, a heads-up display, an Alcantara-suede wrapped steering wheel, and ambient interior lighting.

We Recommend
The 2022 RS e-Tron GT is a standalone variant and hence, it is packed to the hilt with best-in-class specifications. So, there is not much of a recommendation to make here. However, we do suggest opting for the available Full Leather Interior Package that adds higher adjustability options for seats, massage functionality, and a Dinamica headliner.
The RS e-tron GT shares its front motor with the base e-tron GT but has a more powerful rear motor, capable of producing 450 horsepower in contrast to the 429 from the regular e-tron GT. Together, the front and rear motors in the RS e-tron GT produce a net 590 horsepower and up to 637 horsepower with overboost (469 and 522 horsepower for the regular e-tron GT).

Since the RS puts out 612 lb-ft of torque, expect serious pulling power with estimates of 0-60 coming to under 3.0 seconds where official Audi claims are less than 3.5 seconds. The RS comes with all that is standard with the e-Tron GT with a bit more oomph. Much like how the Taycan and Taycan Turbo are to one another. Unlike the Tesla Model S, the VAG twins use a 2-step transmission whose operation can be felt under hard acceleration. In city speeds, however, things are far more sedate. Audi has also taken the effort to engineer artificial sounds that are emitted through the speakers which enhances the overall driving experience.
All Audi e-tron GT models in the U.S. will benefit from a 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, with a unique integrated cooling structure underneath the battery pack. This draws heat away from the battery pack and allows the battery to be housed within an aluminum frame designed for structural rigidity and to protect occupants.

With an 800-volt electrical architecture, the e-tron GT comes standard with the ability to charge at an industry-benchmark 270 kW using DC fast-chargers. This allows it to replenish its battery from 0 to 80% in just 22 minutes; the quickest charging rates currently available of any EV. Preliminary manufacturer’s estimated ranges based on approximation of EPA test cycles for a full charge are 238 miles for the e-tron GT and 232 miles for the RS e-tron GT. EPA estimates not yet available at this time.
The interior design is a refined version of the e-tron SUV. One noticeable improvement over the SUV is the use of physical buttons instead of a secondary touchscreen. Since the Taycan shares its J1 platform with the e-tron GT, things are fairly similar. As an option buyers can choose to have vegan interiors as opposed to leatherette ones. The Interior is less futuristic as opposed to the Tesla Model S but seems far more luxurious and well put together.

Also, the standard infotainment screen is rather responsive to the touch and houses all that you’d expect from standard GPS to smartphone connectivity. There are two screens in total; a 12.3-inch digital dash cluster behind the wheel and a 10.1-inch infotainment system housing the latest MMI system. Much like the Taycan, the seating position is low with more dynamically inclined ergonomics. Eight-way adjustable sport seats are standard, and 18-way adjustable seats with a massage function are available.
Audi has done a fabulous job in designing the e-tron GT. With the RS, however, things have taken a turn for the better. There is no usual fakery with vents and openings. Everything that you see is part of the design and proves to be a functional addition. It bears a close resemblance to the Audi A7’s fastback design and comes with a flat underbody. Dimensionally, the 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT sits much lower than its IC engine sibling and is a fair bit wider as well. Things are well presented with a totally proportionate design. Nothing feels out of place and the integration of Audi’s design ethos on Porsche’s skin is done flawlessly.

Available Matrix LEd headlamps are striking as are the rear full-length LED taillights. Muscular haunches are a characteristic of the RS e-tron GT much like the Porsche Taycan. U.S. models will come with standard 20-inch 5-double-spoke alloy wheels with gray accents whilst vehicles equipped with the performance package have 20-inch 5-double-spoke alloy wheels with black accents. The 2022 RS e-tron GT comes with standard 20-inch 5-spoke AERO wheels or available 21-inch wheels both of which are beautifully designed.
Considering its high value-low volume status, the Audi RS E-Tron GT is unlikely to be tested by either the NHTSA or IIHS. But belonging to one of the most reliable brands from Germany, we doubt that the RS E-Tron GT will perform underwhelmingly in this aspect. It comes equipped with the best-in-class features including a 360-degree camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and rear cross-traffic alert. Other subliminal safety specifications available with the 2022 Audi RS E-Tron GT include:
The 2022 Audi e-tron GT will arrive in dealerships this summer and as per Audi their new flagship GT Sportback is available in three trims. Quattro Premium Plus will start at $100,945, and Quattro Prestige starts at $108,145, while the performance-centric RS e-tron GT will start at $140,945. None of the specifics regarding the trims have been released and we’ll expect it later on. Also, since the prices undercut its corporate sibling and of course the native thoroughbred, we genuinely think Audi has a winning combo. Though the range is a bit less than the Tesla, it sure packs the performance, and did we mention how much of a looker it is. We’d got out on a limb and say the 2022 Audi e-tron GT is by far the best looking Audi and thanks to its aggressive pricing coupled with the blistering performance, it’s competitive too.
