Overview

A lot of things have changed over the years; we have seen a huge rise in the SUV market and on the other hand gasoline-powered engines are getting replaced with fully electric motors, etc. Luxury sedans were once considered the pinnacle of luxury, and SUVs were meant for rough terrain, but these days SUVs are doing it all, and the large luxury sedan segment is barely hanging on. Not a problem till buyers like you are still interested in sedans and for those, the 2022 BMW M760i is a splendid, ultra-luxurious sedan that will cut you off from the outer world the moment you close the door.

Pricing and Features
9.0/10

The 2022 BMW 7-series comes in mainly 5 trim levels and the M760i sits on top of the tree. This trim gets the best of everything, from the engine to the interior. As we already know about the rare engine configuration it has, the creature comfort list is pretty solid on this one. We get bigger wheels and adaptive air suspension as a part of a leisurely driving experience. Power seats with heating and ventilation function covered in Premium Nappa leather are a part of the standard equipment list on the M760i.

Being the best on offer the 2022 M760i also gets BMW laser LED headlights which take much less power and shine brighter than conventional LED headlights. We get all the safety tech as standard in the M760i and the options that remain are the Autobahn Package which adds a 4-wheel steering system and self-leveling adaptive air suspension. The Driving Assistance package will add adaptive cruise control with better highway driving tech and upgraded lane keep assist. Lastly, the Luxury seating will add power-adjustable and ventilated rear seats with massage function and a small tablet to control media and climate control settings.

BMW M760i is a top-tier experience and while the car gets almost everything a luxury car would need, we will still suggest getting some optional packages to make it worth it. The Luxury seating package that makes the second row as comfy as the front one is a must-have on this car. Apart from this the Autobahn Package as well is a practical extra to have as it’s a big car and having a 4-wheel steering system will just make your life easier.

Engine and Performance
9.0/10

2022 BMW M760i will get a huge 6.6L Twin-Turbo V-12 engine which is capable of producing 601 hp & 627 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with an all-wheel-drive setup as standard. The M760i is a pretty heavy car but with this much power, it feels super quick and takes only 3.6 seconds to hit 60 MPH from standstill. The car has so much power that having driving modes was inevitable. Comfort and Comfort Plus modes are the majority of the ones all the drivers will tune into. The car is absolutely silent with no noise of the engine and suspension gets much softer.

The car feels like a boat in these modes in terms of comfort. The Sports mode will allow you to drive the M760i aggressively and the engine exhaust note as well is very audible inside the cabin. When you have this much power, the rally driver inside you might resurrect and for those, just turn off the traction control. And this car will spin and will do 360 burnouts like any other performance car.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S gets the most power in this group and the overall performance of the car is far better than the rest. The reason is pretty simple: light weight. Porsche always keeps their cars lighter compared to the rivals and works harder on aerodynamics making them the best out there. Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo is the one with the least performance figures and is slower than all. But it's one of the best cars and is fun to drive thanks to the standard RWD drivetrain config.

How well does the BMW M760i handle?

Driving the 2022 BMW M760i is almost like sitting in an airliner as the ride quality is too comfortable thanks to the air suspension. And if you get the optional self-leveling suspension unit then forget about any sort of body roll. The dampers level themselves in a way that the actual body doesn’t lean much on a sharp corner. This doesn’t even let the occupants feel like it is taking a sharp turn.

The steering wheel is absolutely lightweight to work with but isn’t the most precise out there; not complaining though. Comfort or Comfort Plus are the best settings to drive this car in as the suspension soaks up pretty much everything but also makes the car bounce a little bit. Overall if you want a car that will make you feel like sitting on the comfy recliner at your home excluding you from the outside world, the 2022 M760i is one of the best. But if you want an agile handling car that will do crazy stuff on roads, please, steer clear.

Braking Performance

2022 BMW M760i will be equipped with 14.7-inch ventilated discs at the front with 4-piston M Sport calipers and a 14.5-inch setup at the rear. We don’t have precise data to compare with but the ‘M’ moniker itself is pretty self-explanatory of the car's performance.

Considering the weight and size of the car, the 2022 M760i gets smaller brakes than its rivals. Porsche Panamera Turbo S with its lightweight body and huge brakes should have the best braking performance in the lot. Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo has managed to stay even lighter, so this could be a tie. Without actual numbers, it's always difficult to assess but one thing is sure that all the cars cost a bomb and they won’t be fitted with ill-performing brakes.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10

When you want all the power at the tap of your feet, the fuel economy is going to suffer and here. We are dealing with a massive V12 engine so keeping expectations low would be the best thing to do. However, the 2022 BMW M760i returns a respectable mileage which is on par with most of its rivals. It returns 13 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. The fuel tank is on the smaller side which is a serious disadvantage, considering the size of this car, BMW should have increased it even if just by a little bit for 2022.

BMW 760i and Audi S8 both are heavy-weight luxury sedans and do come with a lot of power but that takes its toll on the fuel economy. On the other hand, Porsche Panamera Turbo S gets the best in city mileage. The Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo should have performed much better here as it has the smallest engine yet it gets the same mileage as the BMW M760i. Maybe getting a similar power output from a much smaller engine must have affected it.

Interior
9.0/10

Remember when we said that the 2022 BMW M760i is like a little brother to Rolls Royce sedans? You will get your doubts cleared the moment you step inside this cabin. We all are aware that the 7-series is a flagship car from this German automaker but the way BMW has put everything together is just living proof of their craftsmanship. Every inch of this cabin is covered in soft Nappa leather and the dashboard gets glossy wood inlays outlined by brushed aluminum. Well, the trend nowadays is of multiple touch screens but the top-end luxury cars have always stayed away from that, less is more has been the philosophy of all the high-end luxury cars. BMW knows how to make a simple cabin look appealing on all of its cars. Even though we don’t have a futuristic-looking cabin the material quality and fit & finish is top-notch.

The seats get a perforated leather treatment and are power-adjustable along with heating and ventilation function. Although there isn’t any aggressive bolstering the seats are comfortable and soft. The front row is where we get all the functions including massage but for the second row its optional including reclining seat adjustments. Add those and the second row becomes insanely comfy with approx. more than 8-inches of legroom to spare for most people. BMW M760i comes with every single feature you can think of like 4-zone climate control, power rear sunshades, just to name a few.

All of the said cars are top notch. The German duo themselves offer a very simple yet luxurious cabin with immense space on both the rows. Porsche Panamera Turbo S joins the league with a leather-clad cabin but with a practical approach and tons of space for the passengers. It’s the Maserati Quattroporte which is still guilty of parts-bin sharing in a car that costs 6-figures. Make no mistake, the cabin of this car is very luxurious but now it’s a universal truth and everyone knows about this switchgear sharing fiasco which will just affect its sales.

Standout interior features:

  • Nappa leather or Merino leather upholstery
  • Ventilated and Massage seats on both the rows
  • 4-zone climate control
  • Quilted leather seats
  • Heated armrests
  • Reclining second-row seats
  • Optional second-row entertainment screens with a tablet
  • Door integrated ashtray on the second row
  • Power sunshades

What’s there to keep you entertained?

The 2022 BMW M760i will come with the same infotainment system as the current one. It gets a 10.25-inch touch screen unit with iDrive 7.0 user interface. The system can be controlled by voice commands or by hand gestures which is just a gimmick; stick to the touch screen. The M760i will get a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with a dedicated amplifier as standard. You can get the optional second-row entertainment which will add separate screens for rear passengers with a tablet to control it.

Standout infotainment features:

  • 10.25-inch touch screen
  • Navigation
  • Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Second-row entertainment setup (Optional)
  • 7-inch command tablet for the second row (optional)
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Heads-Up display

Exterior
9.0/10

2022 BMW M760i is a big and attractive sedan that screams executive looks on all sides. The unique L-shaped grey strip that runs across the car is the main differentiating factor for the M760i. At the front, we get a big kidney grille which is active and can open/close itself depending on engine cooling requirements. The front bumper has a unique cut-out design with functional air vents on the sides.

The vehicle also gets adaptive Laser LED headlights with those signature hexagon DRLs. Due to its length, the side profile looks stunning with just enough body lines that add to the symmetry of the overall design. At the rear, things are pretty linear striped LED taillights and rectangular exhaust tips integrated into the rear bumper. Overall the BMW M760i gets the best of executive looks without doing anything special.

Audi S8 and BMW M760i both offer a stunning professional look while the Porsche Panamera Turbo S and Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo belong to sporty designs. Maserati has got some things wrong on the inside but the design aspect of the car is spot on.

Standout exterior features:

  • 20-inch wheels with performance tires
  • Laser LED headlights
  • Laminated glass
  • Rear-wheel steering
  • Upgraded adaptive suspension

Safety
9.0/10

High-end cars like the BMW M760i are not crash tested by the NHTSA or IIHS but rest assured as a car that costs this much won’t be skimped upon on structural safety. The M760i gets a unibody structure reinforced with carbon fiber along with a host of active safety features as standard. Let’s see what do have for the occupant’s safety while being on the road.

Standout safety features:

  • Parking sensors
  • Surround-view camera
  • Blindspot monitor
  • Lane departure warning
  • Forward collision assistance
  • Adaptive cruise control (Optional)
  • Upgraded Lane keep assist (Optional)

Competition
9.0/10

2022 BMW M760i vs 2021 Audi S8

Both cars offer the best they have in the segment and the competition is pretty close. Audi S8 gets a more aggressive design compared to the BMW but the interior of both cars is top-notch. The S8 returns a better fuel economy on the highway and gets a bigger fuel tank getting it more driving range. The BMW M760i on the other hand is much more powerful than the Audi and gets significantly more cargo space. Audi S8 is a lot cheaper compared to the BMW M760i yet offers very similar features and an equally luxurious cabin making it a better and practical choice.

2022 BMW M760i vs 2022 Porsche Panamera Turbo S

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S has a serious advantage over the M760i in terms of performance and handling. However, the BMW M760i does the rest of the things better than it. The interior space and quality and daily driving dynamics are much better on the BMW. Porsche is asking a premium price for all that performance and handling extras.

2022 BMW M760i vs 2022 Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo

Maserati Quattroporte Trofeo doesn’t have any advantage over the BMW M760i except that it is lighter. The car gets a smaller engine and returns a poor fuel economy. The interior of the Maserati is good but not good enough to be compared with the BMW M760i. And to add to this it costs significantly higher than the M760i.

Final Verdict

If you are in the market for a sedan that is best in terms of comfort and performance then the 2022 BMW M760i is a solid option. The M760i comes with incredible power we mostly will fail to utilize to its fullest partly due to road limitations. But apart from that, the M760i is one of the best luxury cars you can buy right now which is priced reasonably well and doesn’t have much competition except for the Audi S8. If you are loyal to the brand then go for the BMW M760i eyes closed. But if it's your first ever high-end car you might wanna take a peek at the Audi S8 too beforehand.
