Overall Rating
The 2022 BMW X5 now has an MSRP of $60,600 as it progresses this year with some changes. The X5 is still powered by a 335-hp 3.0L turbo-6 engine that can do 0-60 in just 5.3 seconds. While the X5 is exciting enough, the 523-hp X5 M50i and the 600-hp X5 M amp up the fun of driving. There is also a fuel-efficient X5 PHEV available.
The BMW X5 was a game-changer when it first entered the SUV world. It now has an MSRP of $60,600 as it progresses this year with some changes. Wireless charging is not standard while the Convenience package is no longer available. The features in some packages have been changed while a new Climate Comfort has been added. The biggest change for this year is the Black Vermillion Edition which is will be limited to 350 units only and is based on the xDrive40i with additional tech and style features.

We would recommend picking up the xDrive40i for $61,700. We would also recommend adding the Executive and Driver Assistance Professional Package which will cost an extra $5,750. However, with these additions, you will get all of the best tech and creature comforts like a head-up display, quad-zone automatic climate control, and many more. If you are fashion conscious, then the limited production Black Vermillion Edition should be the one to look at for $83,295.

The X5's refined ride and stable handling are a big improvement compared with the previous-generation model.- CarAndDriver
The 2022 BMW X5 retains the 3.0L turbocharged inline-6 engine from 2021. This unit is quite fuel-efficient and yet manages to churn out 335 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. Hooked up to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the power is delivered to the wheels depending on the model you pick. The sDrive40i is RWD while the xDrive40i is AWD.
Packed with four drive modes, you can fully tap into the potential of any X5 model that you purchase. Easy to drive in the city, the highway is where the beast can be witnessed in full glory. Smooth, serene, and despite its large dimensions, the ride is quite agile. Despite the minimal body roll experienced around corners, the feedback from the agile steering wheel is engaging.
In the Sport mode, the X5 can go from 0-60 MPH in just 5.3 seconds while the quarter-mile takes 13.6 seconds. To put that into perspective, the 600-hp X5 M can go from 0-60 MPH in 3.8 seconds for almost double the price. The 14.8-inch brakes do not break a sweat even under duress, which is really good. It takes about 119 feet to stop from 60 MPH.

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 makes more power than the X5 but it comes at a price. The Volvo XC90 is the cheapest ride with only slightly lesser power than the X5. However, its acceleration times are far from satisfactory. The Audi Q7 manages to impress with its mind-blowing performance.
Customers that need better fuel economy can look forward to the plug-in hybrid model xDrive45e.- Motor1
BMW is always known to be fuel-efficient, and the 2022 X5 is no exception to that ideology. Despite getting a 3.0L engine, with the RWD you can get 21 MPG in the city, 26 MPG on the highway, and 23 MPG combined. Upgrade to the xDrive AWD, and the highway economy drops to 25 MPG while the other figures remain unscathed.
For those who opt for the 523-hp X5 M50i, the MPG figures drop by 5 MPG across the board and you get 18 MPG combined. For the best MPG figures, the X5 xDrive45e hybrid with a combined economy of 50 MPGe should be the one to opt for. All of the models come with a 21.9-gallon fuel tank which allows the X5 to offer a total overall driving range of 504 miles.

While the Bavarian is quite fuel-efficient, the Scandinavian XC90 is one step ahead with better MPG figures both on the highway and combined. The only shortfall is the small 18.8-gallon fuel tank. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 packs similar MPG figures as the X5. The Audi Q7 is the least fuel-efficient in this lineup but tries to cover it up with a decent fuel tank capacity.
It’s a plush and spacious cabin for four adults (but with five seats as standard)- Kelly Blue Book
The 2022 BMW X5Â is on track for a minor refresh, however, any changes to the interior are going to be non-existent. Inside, you get a spacious seating capacity for 5 people. Covered in SensaTec upholstery, the front seats are quite comfortable with power adjustability, heating, and memory settings. Behind the multi-function steering wheel, you get a 12.3-inch digital driver display with the latest iteration of the iDrive 7.0. The center console houses the gear lever, infotainment system controller, and the armrest with storage.
As the show moves to the back, the spaciousness of the interior remains intact as you get 37.4-inches of legroom which is just 2-inches lesser than the front. So, even if you are as tall as Jason Momoa at 6'4", there is ample room in the rear seats. Furthermore, with three-zone climate control, you can rest assured that those bone dry days in California will get slightly more bearable. Since there are only two rows of seating, you get a mammoth cargo space of 33.9 cu-ft as well. This is ample enough for three months of household supplies.Â

In contrast to its rivals, the Volvo XC90 is the most evenly spaced in all three rows. The Audi Q7 also offers three rows of seating in which space is more in the front two rows and slightly lesser in the third. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450Â follows the path of the X5 with two rows of seating as standard. However, there is an option to get the third row which is missing in the X5. In terms of in-cabin entertainment, you get a 12.3-inch touchscreen that is hooked up to a decent-performing 10-speaker Hi-Fi sound system.
The user interface is quite intuitive like any other Bimmer, and you get all of the latest connectivity techs like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, 4G LTE WiFi, and even USB. Other features like real-time navigation, SiriusXM, and HD Radio are also part of the standard packaging. The gesture controls work seamlessly and are a unique feature in its segment. Sadly, wireless charging is no longer a standard feature. Some of the notable interior and infotainment features of the X5 are:Â
Leaked spy photos show that a face-lift is in the works- Edmunds
The 2022 BMW X5 was spotted testing in spy shots a couple of times in heavy camouflage. But upon careful observation, it is quite easy to figure out that there are no major changes to the form factor. The front remains pretty much similar to the outgoing model with the sleeker LED headlamps and the signature kidney grille.
Retaining its overall dimensions like before, you will get a ground clearance of 8.7-inches which is acceptable enough for a ride of its stature. At the back, the show remains the same with long LED taillamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a humongous road presence. The new Black Vermilion Editon model sports matte black exterior paint with a red and black color scheme.

Looking at the dimensions, despite having the shortest wheelbase, the X5 is one of the wider rides in the lineup. The Audi Q7 is the longest one which is quite evident when you look at its side silhouette. The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 is as close as it comes to matching the dimensions of the X5. The Volvo XC90 is the lightest ride in the competition weighing 4,522 pounds. Some other exterior features are:
There are a lot of coaches and trainers helping this athlete compete safely.- MotorTrend
The 2022 BMW X5 received a 5-star rating from NHTSA while IIHS gave their second-highest Top Safety Pick award as it received top-most ratings in all crash tests. It also received a 'Superior' rating for the front crash prevention. These ratings are enough to justify that the X5 is a safe vehicle.
The X5 carries forward the legacy of the automaker of being technologically rich with safety features. Buyers will be impressed with plenty of standard driver aids while a few of them are optional. As part of the safety guidelines, it also features a set of six airbags for occupant protection. Some safety features are:
The Audi Q7 is the most aggressive-looking ride in this lineup. While it costs quite less than the Bimmer, there is not much it offers for that lesser price besides the three rows of seating and the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The X5 is more powerful, offers better MPG figures, packs more cargo space, and is overall more comfortable. That being said, the Audi does offer a better warranty statement which makes it easier to live with. But all things considered, the X5 is the clear winner here.
The Mercedes Benz GLE 450 is clearly the most opulent option among the competitors. Packed with luxuries from top to bottom, the GLE 450 costs less, offers decent cargo space, a comfortable interior with the option of third-row seating, and comparable MPG figures. Furthermore, the MBUX infotainment system is revered globally, and in the GLE-Class, it is the perfect contender for the iDrive 7.0. Eternal rivals from the start, it boils down to personal brand preference here.
The Volvo XC90 is the cheapest ride in this lineup with its characteristic Scandinavian traits of being easy to live with. Priced just shy of 50 grand, the T5 powered XC90 is decently powerful, more fuel-efficient than the X5, and is a breeze to drive. Simplistic luxury is the tone of the interior which houses three rows of comfortable seating with a flamboyant exterior. Even if you upgrade to the T6 powertrain, the price does not increase more than the Bavarian while the power does. The XC90 is the winner here.
The 2022 BMW X5 brings subtle changes this year with a limited edition model and minor refreshments to the features onboard. While it may seem like a miss, the package is definitely worth considering due to the sheer practicality, comfort, and features it offers for the price. Furthermore, for a slightly higher price, it offers more power than its competitors, and an overall comfortable interior as well. Hence, we would recommend buying the X5.
