The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe receives major updates to its interior in the form of a large infotainment screen, and also adds more safety features and exterior colors. The 2022 Tahoe is priced at $51,000 and gets a 355 hp 5.3L V8 engine as standard. It comes with three engine options and six trim levels. This SUV packs in an efficient transmission, superb handling, large cargo space, and a well-equipped and spacious interior with a special mention to its roomy third row.
Redesigned just last year, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe carries over unchanged. On sale now and available across all dealerships in the country, the prices for the 2022 Chevy Tahoe start from $51,395 for the base LS trim and rounds off at $74,695 for the High Country trim. Last year's redesign made this full-size SUV from Chevrolet all the more practical with a 66% increase in cargo capacity. A new diesel engine apart from the standard 355 hp 5.3L V8 engine is also available with RWD as standard and AWD as optional.
For 2022, key updates include a larger driver display unit, additional safety features, and a new Sports package. Three new exterior colors have been added, which increases the total to. The 6.2L V8 that was standard on the High Country trim is now offered as optional on the Premier, Z71, and RST trims. All these changes help the Tahoe to maintain dominance as the best-selling SUV among rivals such as Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, and Toyota Sequoia.
We recommend the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 4WD trim with the optional 6.2L V8 engine. The air suspension provides a composed drive quality both on and off-road. With the standard off-road equipment, it is well suited for off-roading or weekend getaways as well. The Signature Package ($4,785) adds desirable features such as a sunroof, heated steering wheels and second-row seats with memory settings, and a power-folding third row. Considering the equipment, for the $65,000 price tag, the Tahoe Z71 is spot-on value for money.

"The Tahoe has been powered by a V-8 for its entire life, and that continues for the latest generation." - Car and Driver
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe comes with a 5.3L engine as standard, with an output of 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. Two optional engines - a 6.2L V8 engine (standard on the High Country) outputs 420 hp with a torque output of 460 lb-ft and a turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 diesel extracting 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque are available as well. A 10-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive are standard across all Tahoe models, with 4WD as optional.
Gear selection is done with the help of buttons instead of a column shifter or a lever. The Tahoe The 355 hp Tahoe sprints from 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds, with a quarter-mile time of 15.8 seconds. On the 420 hp version, 0-60 mph time drops to 5.9 seconds. The diesel-powered Tahoe accelerates from 0-60 mph in 8 seconds. Despite the heavyweight of the Tahoe, a precise 10-speed transmission provides smooth and linear power delivery continuously.
There is sufficient torque on offer, but the diesel 3.0L I-6 and the bigger 6.2L V8 are more suited to towing and hauling duties. The Tahoe offers one of the best in class towing capacities of 8,400 lbs with a payload capacity of 1,834 lbs. The steering is light, and a tight turning radius makes driving around in the city an easy task. The independent suspension setup is very impressive, as it smoothens out most road undulations and offers a consistent ride quality. The magnetic dampers improve on this even more.

The Chevy Tahoe outputs the least power and torque. The Nissan Armada has the most power output, which converts into the quickest 0-60 mph time among these four. Out of the four cars, the Expedition makes the most torque, with the peak torque kicking in as early as 3,500 RPM. In terms of towing capacity, the Armada has the most towing capacity at 8,500 lbs, whereas the Tahoe is just behind at 8,400 lbs. However, we recommend the Toyota Sequoia among the four due to its more reliable build, affordable value, and decent towing capacity.

"Both the 5.3-liter and the 6.2-liter V-8s benefit from auto start/stop technology and cylinder deactivation." - Car and Driver
With no changes to the powertrain, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe will return similar figures as the 2021 model. Fuel efficiency ratings stand at 16 MPG in the city, 20 MPG on the highway, and 18 MPG combined, with the 5.3L engine and RWD or 4WD. With the 6.2L engine and RWD, the car returns 15/20/17 MPG for city, highway, and combined, respectively. With AWD, there's a reduction of 1 mpg across all sections.
The diesel Tahoe is most efficient with the diesel engine, returning 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg combined. With AWD, it reduces to 20/26/22 mpg for city, highway, and combined respectively. A tank capacity of 28 gallons delivers a standard range of nearly 450 miles in the city, over 550 miles on the highway, and a combined range of 504 miles. Fuel costs for the Tahoe come around 0.15 dollars/mile over a span of 5-years.

"The wide-opening doors offer easy access to front and rear seats, and even third-row passengers have ample headroom to get to their seats." - Edmunds
The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe's interior quality is top-notch, with efficient use of contrasting materials and soft-touch plastics with stitched accents. The interior has a lot of useful storage space mostly in the form of door pockets and the center console. Leather upholstery is standard from LS trim and up. The Tahoe can spaciously seat up to 8 passengers. The LS trim gets a bench seat in the front row as optional, increasing the capacity to nine. The Premier and High Country trims second-row get a pair of captain seats, and this is optional on the LT, RST, and Z71 trims.
The long wheelbase and the flat flooring have helped with better legroom in all three rows, which translates into comfortable long journeys. The headroom space is ample across the three rows, but the seats lack cushioning and have limited thigh and lateral support. Visibility is decent all around, but it's limited in the rear area due to the thick D-pillar. Ingress and egress functions are easy due to the wide-opening doors, and the excellent seat and steering adjustability helps as well.

Against the competition, the Tahoe scores full marks in terms of legroom and standard cargo capacity. The overall headroom and shoulder room offered in all four cars are pretty generous, but the Tahoe will suit most families due to the well-balanced mixture of seating space and cargo capacity. Standard cargo capacity stands at 25.5 cu-ft, which is the most among the four. Against the Expedition, the Tahoe is not very different, as both the cars have a spacious interior with a lot of standard features. Among these four, the Tahoe's premium and modern interior stands out easily.
Tech-wise, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment comes standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Sirius XM, USB ports, charging outlets, Wi-Fi hotspot, 6-speakers, and an SD card reader. Additionally, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a heads-up display are offered as well. Also, two 12.6-inch screens come as optional for behind the front seats. Some interior features on the 2022 Tahoe include:

The Chevy Tahoe doesn't try to disguise its size. Instead, this large SUV makes a virtue of it." - KBB
The 2022 Chevy Tahoe bears a rugged and muscular look, made prominent with its lines and creases. A broad front marked with LED headlights and a slotted grille gives it a very distinctive look. Large side-view mirrors give an excellent visibility. The front of the Tahoe is complemented with bulging wheel arches that house wheels which range from 18-inch alloys to 22-inch alloys. A squared-off rear with vertical LED lights finishes off the macho look. A total of 7 colors are available.
The base LS trim gets body-colored door handles and mirrors while the flagship High Country trim upgrades to excellent chrome finishes all around. The Z71 trim gets the most changes to its exterior in the form of a more rugged front for better approach angle, a skid plate, tow hooks, and all-terrain tires. Dimensionally, with its long length of 210 inches and the 120-inch wheelbase, it offers a spectacularly spaced interior whilst offering a dominating road presence.

Dimensionally, the overall changes that lined the Tahoe do not differentiate it much from the rivals. In fact, the Tahoe is lighter than most, weighing in at just 5,473 lbs. The Expedition is the lightest of all at 5,368 lbs. The Chevy also has a longer and wider body than the rest by around an inch. The Expedition is the tallest of the lot. It also has the most wheelbase at 122.5 inches, which is 1.6 inches longer than the Chevy's. The Tahoe's wheelbase is the tightest of the lot. Some exterior features include:

The 2022 Chevy Tahoe is not safety-rated yet, but the 2021 model received an overall rating of 4-stars from the NHTSA with 3-stars in the rollover test. The IIHS has not rated the Tahoe yet. As a carryover model, we expect the same ratings as there are no structural changes to the SUV. The Tahoe uses the GMT T1XX platform as seen on the Silverado 1500 and is comprised of 77% high-strength steel for better strength and durability. Both the Toyota Sequoia and the Chevrolet Tahoe offer excellent power with their V8 engines, have available 4WD, and pack in a spacious interior and large cargo. The Sequoia is an aging SUV but its high resale value, top reliability ratings, and the well-equipped off-road TRD package make it a powerful competitor of this Chevy. The Tahoe is modern, has an optional turbodiesel engine, offers a composed ride quality, and has better fuel economy. Due to its better advantages, the Tahoe is the recommended car among these two.
Both the American manufacturers offer large interior space and excellent ride quality with their independent suspension setups. The Ford Expedition is a strong rival against the Tahoe with a powerful engine, smooth 10-speed transmission, class-leading fuel economy, and high tow ratings. The Tahoe offers a magnetic ride control suspension, two engine options, and also a turbodiesel. However, despite the Expedition's slightly higher starting price, it is a more practical option than the Tahoe.
For a price of $51,000, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe offers excellent value for money with its powerful engines, composed ride quality, and spacious interior packed with tons of features. The Tahoe is a very capable and suitable vehicle to be the family hauler and for some adventure with its off-road package. All this makes the Tahoe a very desirable option and we surely recommend one.
