Overall Rating
The 2022 Honda Insight is a carry-over model from the current year and there are no major changes compared to the ongoing model year.
The 2022 Honda Insight is a carry-over model from the current year and there are no major changes compared to the ongoing model year. The only change that you will witness this year is the LX trim level has been dropped from the Honda Insight lineup. The Honda Insight comes in the same size as the Honda Civic but the big difference is the hybrid powertrain. The aggressive styling of the Honda Insight makes it an appealing sedan and the pricing is also aggressive. The Honda Insight looks pretty similar to any other gasoline-powered sedan.
We recommend going for the EX trim level of the Honda Insight as it offers better value for your money. The smaller wheels on the EX trim level result in better fuel economy. You miss on some of the premium features that come with the Touring level, but they do not justify the premium that you have to pay for them. The EX trim should do the work for most of the buyers.

The 2022 Honda Insight is already released with no major changes this year. The Honda Insight is on sale and you can buy the latest Insight.
The Honda Insight is powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated Inline-4 engine which is paired with an electric motor. The Honda insight comes mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which sends the power to the front wheels of the car. The engine produces 151 horsepower and 197 pound-feet of torque. The power figures from the engine might not sound like much, but it is pretty impressive for a budget hybrid sedan. The Honda Insight has one of the most powerful engines in its segment, which really helps it perform better against other hybrid sedans.
The Honda Insight does not compromise much on the performance aspect which is the case with most hybrid sedans in the competition. The acceleration is quite impressive and the power delivery is also pretty well. There is almost no lag in the engine but still, you can not expect a sportier performance. The CVT transmission works well with the Insight. You need to be gentle on the throttle to make the most out of it or else you will have to encounter some rubber band effect.
The Honda Insight takes 8 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 miles per hour. The quarter-mile run takes 16.2 seconds which is good for the segment. The handling also goes in the favor of the Honda Insight. The steering offers good feedback and is precise to the driver inputs. Honda Insight loves to change lanes pretty quickly and you will enjoy throwing it at the corners. The experience of Honda is evident in the suspension setup. The Honda Insight offers a good combination of ride and handling. The ride quality feels comfortable and manages to take the road undulations well. However, some big bumps can be felt inside the cabin.

The 2022 Honda Insight has the most powerful engine in the segment. That clearly shows in the acceleration figures. The Honda Insight is the fastest hybrid sedan in the segment. The Hyundai Elantra comes at second position in terms of the acceleration figures and clocks 8.5 seconds to the 60mph mark. The Toyota Prius hybrid comes out as the slowest car in the competition and also comes with the lowest top speed in the segment, maxing out at 112 MPH.
The fuel economy figures are the biggest advantage of a hybrid powertrain. The fuel economy figures of the 2022 Honda Insight will impress most buyers. The Honda Insight manages to return a fuel economy of 55 mpg in the city, 49 mpg on the highway, and 52 mpg of combined fuel economy. Honda is known for making one of the refined hybrid powertrains and the Insight is a great example of that in the budget sedan segment. It gets a 10.1-gallon fuel tank which is not that big but the excellent fuel efficiency compensates for that. The Honda Insight manages to deliver a maximum highway range of over 500 miles on a fuel tank.

The Toyota Prius has the most fuel-efficient engine in the competition. The difference in the fuel economy of all these vehicles is not that much. All the sedans in the segment offer impressive fuel efficiency which is already excellent. The Hyundai Elantra gets the biggest fuel tank in its segment. It helps the sedan deliver the best highway range that is 694 miles on a full tank.
Another area where Honda has been doing a great job for decades now is making functional and spacious cabins even in the small form factors. Although the Honda Insight is not that big of a sedan, there is plenty of room in the interior of the car. You will never demand anything more at this price point in a sedan. The cabin is made with functionality in mind and that’s where it shines the best. The quality of the cabin is also well taken care of.
The front seats offer good support for the driver or the passenger of any size. The design of the dashboard might not be the most premium of the lot but the quality is acceptable. Honda has taken care of the ergonomics of the car pretty well. All the controls for the driver fall within the reach of the driver. There is ample space in the rear seats too. The under-thigh support in the back could be a little better but it does not make it uncomfortable at any point.

The Honda Insight is among the most spacious hybrid sedans in its class when you talk about interior space in the car. The Hyundai Elantra is slightly better than the Insight in terms of the legroom but the difference is not that big and it does not make that big of a difference in the real world. The Toyota Prius has the least legroom for the rear passengers but it excels when it comes to the cargo area. The cargo area in the Prius is way ahead of all the other rivals.
Standout interior features:
The 2022 Honda Insight gets a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The touchscreen infotainment system is up there with other rivals in terms of overall usability and ease of use. The graphics are clear and responsive. Some of the rivals have a more intuitive infotainment user interface but Honda is not far behind at all. The infotainment system of the Honda Insight comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The other standard features include SiriusXM satellite radio, AM/FM radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and an 8-speaker audio system. You get Wi-Fi hotspot compatibility along with other features like an integrated navigation system, and a better 10-speaker premium audio system with the Touring trim.
Standout infotainment features:
The 2022 Honda Insight is one of the best hybrid sedans in its segment if you consider the exterior styling of the car. Honda Insight takes its design inspiration from Honda Civic and the Honda Accord. Still, there are various design changes that make it look different from both these sedans. The Honda Insight comes with a completely different-looking grille at the front of the car which helps it distinct from other sedans in the Honda lineup. However, you can still recognize it as a Honda even from a distance just by looking at it.
The aggressive styling of the Honda Insight resembles with Honda design language for quite a few years now. The striking LED headlights at the front of the car make it look sporty. The sloping roofline of the Honda Insight is similar to what is there in the Civic. The aggressive styling continues on the rear of the car too. The LED Brakelights at the rear of the car looks sleek and aggressive. The overall styling at the rear is pretty much similar to the Honda Civic if you try to find the similarities.

The exterior dimensions of all the cars in the competition are quite similar and there is not much difference in the overall dimensions of the car. The Toyota Prius comes with the shortest length when you compare it against the other rivals. However, the wheelbase of the Toyota Prius is similar to the Honda Insight’s wheelbase at 106.3 inches. Both these cars also share the same ground clearance, while the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid gets a marginally higher clearance of 5.3 inches.
Standout exterior features:
Honda has taken care of the safety aspect of the Insight pretty well. Since it is a carry-over model of the ongoing model, the safety ratings still apply to the current model of the car. The 2021 Honda Insight managed to score an impressive 5 out of 5 stars in the crash-test by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated it a “Good” overall safety rating. The IIHS also awarded it with the “Top Safety Pick+'' award. That further tells us how safe is the Honda Insight. There is a pretty good list of standard features list with the 2022 Honda Insight.
The safety features include:
The Hyundai Elantra offers more features for almost a similar price compared to the Honda Insight. The interior and infotainment of the Elantra are also better than the Insight. The Honda Insight shines when it comes to the performance of the car. It gets a more powerful engine and the performance along with the driving dynamics of the Insight are also better than the Elantra hybrid.
The Toyota Prius has long been in the hybrid sedan segment and it has started to age over the years. The fuel economy of the Prius is still unbeatable in the segment. However, the exterior design of the Prius is something that not everyone will like. The Honda Insight shines when it comes to the combination of performance, styling, and features.
The 2022 Honda Insight can be easily recommended to anyone who is looking for an economical sedan. It does not look as weird as some of its other hybrid rivals do. The performance of the Honda Insight is also not boring like the other rivals in the segment. The safety ratings are quite impressive for the segment. It still does not compromise on any of the key advantages of a hybrid powertrain. It offers excellent fuel efficiency and the interior of the car is also among the best in the class. You can consider the Honda Insight if you are looking for an economical hybrid sedan.
